youre one of the first people who've reviewed this album and actually understoon 99% of what its about, its homage to old fans but at the same time its him venting his aging crisis. absolutely beautiful album through and through. good shit papa.
You can definitely hear all through the album that Bladee is going through something rn, and I love how unfiltered and raw the lyrics are. I wish him and all of you well ❤️
Its clear he's been dealing with some things and been in a crisis and i genuinly hope he heals. I think his journey has come full circle going from the depressed drugged out kid he was in his gluee and eversince era then finding the light out of the tunnel and finding himself with 333, Exeter and even Spiderr to finally getting feelings of sadness and being lost again even though he thought he once found hapiness. It just shows that life is, in a way, cycles repeating themselves. I also hope that he realises that its not all in vain and that he can find hapiness again like he once had. This really feels like his magnum opus and seems like in a way he's done with this which i can totally understand. I just hope that this time he uses all his past insight that once got him out of that dark hole he was in. I mean his music quite literally showed me the beauty of life and understanding that the little things matter. Much love Bladee
Yes! Perfect encapsulation and I hope he continues making music, too. Especially if he's able to do some healing -- just to show people it's possible to move on and make life better after challenges.
i feel like how bladee describes to a t it's insane, one thing to know is that the greatness of bladee comes at a cost of his own mental health. That's what greatness requires tho. I think people will look back at bladee as truly one of a kind.
Love you Papa ❤️ For me, this album is to Bladee what Disintegration was to Robert Smith. Robert was also pushing 30 when he released Disintegration which paid homage to all of his previous albums. Also, very similar in themes because the dread of aging, coldness, constant cycle of anxiety, depression and feeling lost seem like the main subjects of both albums. Really hope this is not the end.
rlly love how you approached this, perhaps this album is an exaggeration of his feelings, hopefully he is feeling better IRL than what's portrayed here
I like to think that if he was truly mentally unwell he wouldn’t be making music at all, it’s a good sign he’s expressing his emotions rather than shutting down and going off the grid or something…
yea honestly the odds are that this is nowhere near an exaggeration to his true feelings. I wouldn't even be surprised if he feels like he can't even capture his true feelings. as sad as it is, people with mental health issues don't just get better; more so go through bouts of dealing with them properly off n on. I think while he made this he may have been having a down moment in life. but on the positive side it is probably a huge help for him to make music and is most definitely working as a therapy for him for all these years. but in all of our perspectives god he does an amazing job at presenting his feelings so poetically sometimes i cant fathom it
I’m so glad to see someone give “don’t do drugz” the respect it deserves. A beautiful message, when you read the lyrics isolated from the beat it almost brought me to tears. I’ve had nothing more than an issue with smoking a bit too much weed as a young adult and being lazy, but the song transcends the title and brings so much hope to me.
Papa Squat, you are the coolest. The music you review is obviously not consistent with the taste of your peers of the same generation, but it is so awesome to see you take the time to listen, review, and often enjoy the music that makes me oh so happy. Music does not discriminate, and in a world of ever-increasing judgement and scrutiny, you are a true refreshment. Thank you, Papa Squat.
had to rewatch this after seeing bladee live on the cold visions tour, some of these songs feel so different with a whole crowd screaming along, especially the chorus of YUNG SHERMAN, didn't expect people to go so hard for FLATLINE either
This album is so relatable and cathartic. I have been listening to it over and over again because whenever I hear bladee it’s almost like he’s speaking about my own life it’s crazy. I love the raw emotional vulnerability. Not that I think it should be glorified but it also shouldn’t be deemed as bad either considering this is mainly what art does. You create and share your experience and when done for the right reasons it reaches the right people. This album is honestly a masterpiece in my eyes.
I'm definitely resonating with this mixtape and psykos a lot. Couldnt have come at a more perfect time tbh. I hope anyone who may also be resonating with these projects finds relief. We're all in this together and it won't feel this way forever.
big thanks for reacting to that project, been a long way for bladee and sadly all facts are adding up but i hope he wont leave... ure the realest one for understanding everything he says, u could be a good therapist tho lol, i think. everything seems to be planned, like album just appeared out of nowhere with 30 tracks, and seems like he gave fans for the first time what they were asking for, isnt that weird?. talking about endless stress, getting older, depression and deep sadness. people wanted old bladee back, so here he is in his final kinda form but its just horrifying seeing him like this. i think in the last track hes talking about death and the fear of it. we've seen death or s##ide topic in bladee's tracks a lot so hes kinda bounded to it and theres 2 sides battling - the one that doesnt want to wake up and see another day, and the one that fears getting older and older and then - die.. bro's 30 now and i can imagine what is it like for him. just trapped inside your mind with endless thoughts of the same topic. hope he gets better 🙏🙏🙏 thanks for the reaction again ure the legend papa
i believe he might be having or had gone through a sort of extensital crisis since ya know 30 is around the time when almost all people get it. am i right?
I spent my first listen mostly just listening to how it sounds and not diving super deep into it. On subsequent listens it really dawns on you how much he must be dealing with. I hope he’s ok and I firmly agree that he should take whatever break he needs to get help or find himself. He’s immensely talented and a CRIMINALLY underrated song writer, but he’s given us so much amazing art and he deserves to find peace.
i really love your input of the album. You were extremely insightful of the very subtle things in the album n honestly made me think different about the album. I also appreciate how understanding u were of his struggles. Keep it up man
22:39 i can’t say i’m 1000% positive but what i gather from this album is that he’s still very much so dealing with the impact of barrons death. he talks about drug addictions and grief a lot in this album which makes me think of DG and SB in the years leading up to the day of barrons death which was when everything really changed (he died the day before bladees birthday) i think this whole album is a reflection of that time of his life. he speaks about how those experiences kind of broke him and i think he’s sort of tired of people thinking he’s gotten over it because even though he puts a smile on his face he’s still grieving the loss of one of his closest friends and then also seeing yung lean in his psychosis and literally saving his life like that time of his life was extremely traumatic. i could be wrong but to me it’s the only thing that really makes sense.
as an og drainer, i really appreciate your perspectives :) imo its bladee's love letter to his fans, giving us what we've been asking from him for years. he has found mainstream success in the last 5 years or so and most of his old fanbase have accepted he would never return to his early work. i think bladee decided to give us a retrospective of who and what he is. i dont think he is as sad as he claims to be, with all due respect. i think he summoned a dark version of himself, perhaps the darkest he's ever gone. all for us to enjoy :)
That’s such an interesting way to look at it. It’s more optimistic and heartfelt 😭I feel a little guilty about it though because to me it’s sounds like “you guys keep asking for evil bladee back well I’m in an even shittier place so I guess that’s what you guys wanted right? Enjoy 🥰🖕”
yeah i agree that hes probably not as cooked as things suggest but, hes definitely been through a LOTT of shit. even recently if you read the interview about Psykos. it would entirely make sense to me if bladees neurons are just fried.
the styx makes u immortal/invulnerable if ur dipped into it but if ur completely submerged then u get lost in ur woes forever and never escape -- achilles' heel was his mortal weakness bc his mother thetis dipped him headfirst completely except for the heel by which she held him
You said a very beautiful thing and it's that part of the following he has, they have been aging with him. I started listening to Bladee when it was 2013-2014 and I was 21-22. I am now turning 32 and It was amazing witnessing all the transformation he had musically and spiritually. I pretty much grew with Drain Gang and Sadboys.
55:08 this comment about the lusi beat is so interesting. over the past 4 years, what you say is def true but originally it was the other way around (the lusi beats were out of the ordinary for bladee and the rage/trap beats weren't). interestingly enough, it was after his near death experience that he switched his music style to be more of the style u call typical bladee and this album feels like he's synthesizing both sides
This album especially the last few tracks gave me a looming sense of dread. I pray bladee can find the light again and this is only a cyclical 'depression'
hi papa, when yung lean says "if you talk to me, talk to me nicely" its a reference to the song "Talk to me Nice" by bladee. I think it's a celebration of their careers up to this point, and this is supported by yung lean saying "imma make you hurt" which is another reference to "Hurt" by Lean, a pillar of the underground sound
I love the lightning story, I still tell people that when introducing bladee to them but it more likely could be an explanation for an OD story. Punishment for drugs in Thailand used to be death penalty so it's likely that they had some sort of near-overdose + panic attack mixed in with the storm (I'm sure it did hit close or even right next to him) and they couldn't bring him to the hospital or call for help because it would be obvious he was under the influence. I believe either story, I'm sure it was a mixture of both. Regardless of what happened exactly it's clear with the aesthetic that transformed from that event that it deeply affected him, and I 100% believe the angelic feeling he gained from that was because he truly believed he was going to die/had a near death experience.
i listened to this album, and i spoke my mind with my support group and they sent me to the psych ward for a week. if that isnt powerful for music idk what is... im 29 and i'm fucking dying in my dad's house. i wanna be independent, the kids of the boomers (maybe_)the last bastion in america./Europe. i'ts financially impossible for rent let alone mortgage, let alone a social circle orgy diaspora or emotional connection.... i'm dying in the western loneliness mental health complex in the NE US..
2:08:49 I believe he is wishing for love in this song. similar to his description of God as Love. Even on the previous album, he always gives similar description of it. He talks a lot about wanting to finish, but he also wants a love that can support him in building his life, which sounds a lot like the whole prior song. That's what he's needed all along, that is my opinion. He romanticized himself the last time I sensed he was obsessed, which is comparable to how Ecco saw himself in E or PXE. That's how take from it. God is Love.... I hope bladee is just need time
no more bladee now the cycle is complete his first song was oxygen, which is mirrored in the cant end on a loss lyrics " so coldddd " idk i feel bladee went out on a W with the older styles and either this is it or he's moving on to new things
One thing that struck me about this album is how many of the little tags are from their older music, this is like in some sense a return to some older elements, but with a new approach. He also like basically calls this the sequel to the wod album in wodrainer i think?
They're a bit on the ironic side and are having fun with it also. Don't forget that ever. It can be heard in the middle of thaiboys verse on lucky luke (when he begins singing/mocking childlike songwriting then begins again in confidence). The excessive use of sound effects(cold visions) reflect it also as well as grounds his content to be taken seriously
Maybe this album is just Bladee reflecting on his past, like the really dark times in Miami. Because he wants to face the darkness in him to really let it go. He is also talking about aging and becoming 30 so he’s obviously still feeling these feelings but I hope this is mostly about his past because I like happy bladee🙂
Bladee just hit 30 April 9th and 30 Songs: People are saying this is the last year for DrainGang and I hope they’re wrong. “Im not coming back and I hope you understand”. And he used every producer he ever used on this tape too….
one thing i think you missed with your reaction is how seamlessly the songs transition. apart from that you offered an amazing perspective on the album
i knew there were tons of references to his other stuff on this other project but i guess i didnt catch a lot of them, like wodrainer where he references gluee and eversince
I think hes moreso saying farewell to all the memories, fans, songs etc he made with rapping and living a certain life style. I bet he is going to strictyl adhere to a new lifestyle

one thing i think you missed with your reaction is how seamlessly the songs transition. apart from that you offered an amazing perspective on the album
Yeah, I definitely view the songs as individual things. That's a problem with listening like I do -- I forget about how the transitions sound.
@@papasquat08 it’s also kinda needed if you want to provide your opinion for each song so it’s understandable
another papa squat W
Thanks Papa
Quick with the review! Been a fan of Bladee and the whole camp for 10 years now. This may be one of his best albums yet!! Hope all is well :)
Needed it didn’t expect it this quick
PAPA IS OFFICIALY A DRAINER
he's BEEN drained
papa, u fire, unique, trendy... aw papa, 🙏🏼thanks🙏🏼
Bladee... we love you BECAUSE you're 30
i knew there were tons of references to his other stuff on this other project but i guess i didnt catch a lot of them, like wodrainer where he references gluee and eversince
Also PM2 is a prequel track to puppet master from Redlight
I think hes moreso saying farewell to all the memories, fans, songs etc he made with rapping and living a certain life style. I bet he is going to strictyl adhere to a new lifestyle
took 2 days of listening to decide flatline is my definite favourite. bladees best album
you said it well
we luv papa squat
its the best album of all time
