Recently, in Ukraine, new munitions are being employed for bombing targets. Specifically, a type of glide bomb such as FAB250/FAB500 and recently fielded FAB-1500M-54. Hi love this video. Was around during the Falklands war. Just wondering what would have happened if the British had not sank the General Belgrano, forcing the Argentinan navy to run for home. In other words, the Argentinan navy was able to complete their alleged pinser movement and engage the Royal Navy task force. I assume the Argentinan Air Force's remaining assets will also take part.
This is all brilliant and entertaining btw. Not sure how valuable it all is in terms of getting an idea of how it would go in the unlikely and undesirable event but I love it nonetheless
29:52 "The plan worked" _For given values of 'worked'_ 😂😂😂 There entire new airforce is dead bar two F-16s and there's a super carrier coming but... 😂😉
One question Cap (and I apologize because it totally defeats the purpose of your video), but if a conflict occurred, couldn't the British use one or more Astute Class Submarines to launch Cruise Missiles at the Argentine Airbases and knock them out of commission?
Probably. Also good luck getting an invasion fleet past an Astute. SSN crews like to say that there are two kinds of ships: There are submarines, and there are targets. Spearfish is a terrifyingly amazing torpedo.
The Typhoons can also lob full range Storm Shadows, but doing so would be a first strike, which is politically risky. You don't get as much international support if you strike first.
ahh It's most likely that Argy "special" forces would attempt to take out the EW radar. I've served there many moons ago at Mount Adam and Mount Campito and an interesting landscape.
there was also a batch of 42 block 40/50 up for sale direct form US stocks offered by the US Airforce 2 years ago, that would give them a better chance if brought.
Back in the actual Falklands War, a UK sub managed to sink the General Belgrano cruiser; apocryphal story that Argentina's only carrier was approaching from a different direction, and the sub commander was asking permission to sink that too, but the UK government said no. The UK also never tried to attack the Argentine mainland assets or other Argentine ships that declined to leave port after Belgrano was destroyed. They were trying to find a balance between fighting back and over-escalating things. (Cold War was still going on, and despite the weird fact this war was between two hardline right wing regimes, the UK did not want to seem excessively bloodthirsty, which (in that Cold War climate) might agitate other nations into taking Argentina's side against "British imperialism". Not that Argentina's government was deserving of sympathy. Argentina's military regime took a very bloody gamble to try and quell domestic criticism with a "quick win", and instead by losing, it doomed them.
The night before the Belgrano was sunk - had the Argentinians had more than 4 knots of wind they would have attacked HMS Hermes which they had located - an almost unheard of (at the time of the year) lack of wind saved the British from humiliation. Still, it's a reminder that peacetime penny-pinching costs you wars - the reason why the Argentinians needed the wind of god is because the boilers onboard their carrier were poorly maintained and couldn't make make enough steam for more than 12 knots, meaning fully armed A-4s couldn't take off without significant wind assistance.
So this a mission win for the UK right? With 3 planes left in the Argentine air force, the CV task group would be absolutely uncontested, and with a T45 and sub in the area, no landing can happen. Not withstanding what happens when you deconflict the missiles and dont dump 4 missiles per plane.
Does the meteor missile even exist? Is there actually a squadron of jets in the Falklands and not just a couple of them? I'm being a realist. I've worked very closely with typhoons both on the RAF as well as many years overseas for a foreign air force. And when I served there were only maybe two jets there, and the meteor was a pipe dream on the designers desk. My connection with the platform finished circa 2016.
Meteor is in use with the RAF on all Typhoon squadrons and will be implemented onto F-35B with Block 4 circa 2028 until which point, they will use the AIM-120D-3. There is a permanent flight of 4 Typhoon FGR4s on the Falklands along with a Voyager. In this scenario, Britain anticipated an invasion so stationed an additional 12 Typhoons to RAF Mount Pleasant.
@@curtiswhyte3297 thank you. So real life x4 jets? Not a chance in hell against Argentina. The last typhoon I was involved with up close was carrying IRIS T. 😉
@@curtiswhyte3297 I don't think we bought AIM-120D, as we were expecting to have the short fin (adapted for F-35) version of Meteor in service by now (which it isn't) - so we have existing stock block B and C AMRAAMs on "our" F-35s giving them no better air to air capability than the Sea Harrier back in 2010 - The block D refresh is going to cost billions and is the end of the road for F-35 upgrades until they are completely refitted with modern computer systems. F-35 is an IT antique under the covers. Current tranche Typhoon is miles ahead as the systems have been refreshed constantly - unlike the troublesome F-35 which had to be frozen to iron out the thousands of bugs - on top of this mess due to all this penny-pinching to fund the useless F-35Bs - our Typhoons have been allowed to fall behind too. This is a monumental mess - most of it driven by whatever maximises BAe's profits - the tail is wagging the dog.
Did you forget about the UK subs? I think one sub could probably deal with most, if not all of the invasion fleet. Also are there no AWACS aircraft in the Falklands? If not that seems like a bit of a mistake...
@@dexlab7539If the QnLz or PoW CAG has to go down south? You can take it as read there's going to be at least two Astutes with them. Probably a half & half bomb shop load out of TLAM & Mod.1 Spearfish.
This was an excellent concept for the TOT attack from two directions in my opinion!! I have to say though, I know you had to keep human pilots in the northern group, but I think if there were enough manpower for maybe four or six human pilots in that southern group that flanked the Typhoons from the south, that would have been even more favorable. I agree with the assessment of both Cap and Matrix though, the win doesn't even really make a difference in the real world though. If Argentina could defeat a squadron of Typhoons in the real world, it will 100% be a Pyrrhic victory, and I personally don't even think they could really do it. That being said, it's a moot point, because when HMS Queen Elizabeth shows up with her F-35's and an armada packed to the brim with pissed off Royal Marines... to quote the late great Bill Paxton as Hudson from the film Aliens, "Game over man, Game over.". Depends on how much notice the Uk's intel systems give in advance, and what the carriers are up to at the time. You can't really do surprise attacks these days with spy sats above and subs below. With the UK's strength in intel assets, plus 5 eyes, it's likely they would have plenty of notice.
@@godalmighty83 I wondered that. Also drones and MANPADs. And a spy armed with a Mk1 eyeball and a sat phone. It could only achieve those speeds for a few seconds thanks to mounted rockets, it was an all-out interceptor, fly up once, fire a pair of missiles, hope to have enough fuel to glide/crash home. Other than intercepting incoming Soviet bombers it had no real purpose due to the ~250km range. Even the lightning, renowned for being thirsty, could get several times that. Would be a cool jet to play with though,
Someones making a high quality AH-1G mod (channel is called "Violent Nomad"), but other than that I've heard nothing. I wanted to make a Whiskey Cobra mod but DCS modding is unimaginably difficult.
I mean I know you wanted to give yourselves as a many advantages as you could but you really shouldn't know how many missiles had been fired. That simply made it incredibly easy to win.
Actually it is not doable. There are several factors you didn't take into account that the Brits used last time. This time the Brits who will be defending can use some of the same tactics to forestall any mass air attack from Argentina.
I dont think they'd be daft enough to send all Typhoons in the same direction at the same time.... if they would have only held 1 or 2 back then the F16's coming in from the South would have been in trouble
I mean if all they get is the B or C5s then they don't really pose any danger to the UK. But will have parity with the Brazilian Gripen. Which is what is seen as the reason for the purchase
Military balance between Argentina and Brazil is already tilting heavily towards the latter, giving the former F-16 A/B MLUs would be enough, unless Lula’s Brazil become hyper aggressive or leaning further towards PRC, I won’t see advanced AAMs supply to Fuerza Aérea Argentina coming.
You should include in your planning trainer aircraft carrying buddy store refueling for both outgoing and returning aircraft. That would conservatively give the F16s about 30% more range.
That presumed that any of the Argentine aircraft have that ability, and that they have the spare pilots to do so. Which I don't think either is the case...
Those are the current forces on station, Mt Pleasant is designed to run up to several wings if required. If Argentina was preparing to launch all of their F-16's in a suicide run, then the UK would know about it in advance and swell the forces up. No point at the moment as Argentina doesn't really have any working fast jets.
Video game aside this could never be done without plenty of warning to the british and they would be ready and be more prepared to strike the mainland than in 1982. These videos are always fun though.
It is believed that none of those remain operational. Only 6 were running 4 years ago, and even if they were, a pair of sidewinders on fat slow jets wouldn't help much. And the F-16 scenario alone uses more fast jet pilots than Argentina currently has available.
If Argentina tried to retake the Falklands they would be defeated in no time. There is five times the amount of military personnel on the islands than there was in 82 before the invasion, Also the Argentine mainland would be hit by volleys of tomahawk cruise missiles launched by Astute class submarines, taking out the southern airfields within range of the Falklands. There token airforce would not be able to operate therfore. Even if it did get off the ground, it would be swiftly taken out by the typhoons.

I did read the Norwegians managed to hack some soviet satelites to provide information to the UK - I have always wondered if the Soviets let them :-).
@@tomriley5790
The Soviets passed satellite photos and intelligence to the Argentinean AND the British. They wanted to see how effective western naval forces and anti ship missiles were. (Argentine naval forces were mostly old British equipment or new equipment manufactured in Britain/France)
A bit like winding up and egging on the two biggest guys at school so you can watch a good fight.
@@tomriley5790 Yes. But another thing to consider is how little of the RN went South in 82. The RN continued to meet all its worldwide requirements apart from the Gulf and the RNZN took that up for us. Plus there were still viable hulls in the reserve fleet too that could have been called upon if needed.
@@clangerbasher
Yep, a question of timing before i) the worst of the bad weather and ii) Argentina could bolster their defences. Both on FI and updating their air defences, say by buying more Exocets.
British intelligence were leading them on a merry dance on that score but sooner or later they were going to get something.
Also, I did wonder when the nuclear sub fleet would simply have their RoE changed to allow them to sink anything the Argentine Navy had.
Then there's the role of Special Forces directly attacking critical infrastructure in Argentina itself, and either extracting to Chile or by sub. We know plans were made but not implemented.
Just noticed at 22:05 that the rear fins on the missile swivel. Not sure I have missed this before in the 'excitement' or if this a new animation. Looks great though.
Really enjoyed this battle and the outcome was a surprise
Just suppose the UK was caught out (again) and Argentina managed to capture the islands. Could their F-16s defend against a full deployment QE class CV air group?
No chance at all. Even F16 block 50/52 flown as blue air with all the support of the USAF (AWACS etc) get clobbered by F35. The technological gap is just far too big.
No
My one and only problem with this video is the phrase "get the Falklands back". They've never had them so how can they get them back?! Otherwise loved the video as always :D
U are my fav UA-camr keep up the good work ❤🎉
Sorry, I was stationed at Byron Heights EWR and we used to look at commercial aircraft flying up Argentina, so none of your stealth flying would have counted.
Just to be clear Milei does not has a radical view over the Falklands (as the old party in power did). This is a democratic elected candidate and not the ghost of a military junta, greetings from AR :D
Do you ever plan these with the idea in mind that not all the jets will get off the ground due to mechanical issues?
Back? Argentina has never possessed them to have them back.
I believe they controlled them for 2 months?
@grimreapers yeah, thats true, held "Bennies" in a community building and pooped all over the floor of another.
France and/or Spain might have a claim. If you go back enough in history all claims become rather questionable.
tbh my knowledge of the (very!) historic background comes mainly from Oversimplified's video on the Falkland War. Which is still a good source. And there was some ...debate between Britain and Spain.
@@5Andysalive France relinquished its dubious claims on one of the islands to Spain.
@@grimreapers Controlled? no they controlled nothing they invaded with a small garrison of 21 men & a small number of civilians about 12 of them on an already populated islands. Their settlement was soon starving many of the garrison mutinied & went off to loot other settlements killing some of islanders who resisted. Many of those that weren't killed or captured by the islanders turned on their own commander killing him & raping his wife. The rest including the civilian's were desperately waiting for their ship to return to flee the islands when a British warship showed up. The civilians were allowed to stay & some did while most chose to leave, those in the garrison that didn't commit crimes were ordered to leave when their ship arrived. The captured mutineers were put in chains they later returned to Argentina & seven were executed by firing squad for killing their commander while four others received floggings & were jailed.

Recently, in Ukraine, new munitions are being employed for bombing targets. Specifically, a type of glide bomb such as FAB250/FAB500 and recently fielded FAB-1500M-54. Perhaps a demonstration of how big of area is impacted by each type of munition (if available in DCS) and how accurate they are to a specific target could be a fun exercise for the GR team. A pyrrhic victory. great video lots of fun :)
The important thing to remember is any kind of senerio where Argentina manages to attack the islands will involve them loosing 99% of their new f-16's
Despite the outcome it suggests that the Typhoons would win if lobbing missiles with a bit more thought

As soon as you mentioned the "Daily Mail" I knew this was a fantasy situation :)
This is all brilliant and entertaining btw. Not sure how valuable it all is in terms of getting an idea of how it would go in the unlikely and undesirable event but I love it nonetheless
You can't take back what you have never had. The Falklands have been British longer than Argentina has existed.
29:52 "The plan worked"
_For given values of 'worked'_ 😂😂😂
There entire new airforce is dead bar two F-16s and there's a super carrier coming but... 😂😉
Sounds good, but there is no Sabre Battery in Stanley, and there are only 4 Typhoons.
I like how open F16 canopy is..........
GR? LOL Well Done!
Any ideas when the type 003 will get a Ingame model?
No idea but probably a long time.
What about the Type 45 Destroyer that would be defending the Falklands?
A loss of only four Thyphoons? Aren’t there just about 4 Thyphoons stationed down there?
Thyphoon?
I was worried up until "reference the Daily Mail".
The Falkland islands never belonged to Argentina, so what do you mean with 'taking back'?
By 18:35 the F35 are already smashing Buenos Airies
And then some.
Great mission! Love the strategy elements.
ahh It's most likely that Argy "special" forces would attempt to take out the EW radar. I've served there many moons ago at Mount Adam and Mount Campito and an interesting landscape.
Could the QEs even get there without breaking down ? could we assemble and frigates to escort them ? are the type 45s not still awaiting new engines ?
True - but Argentina has even fewer assets - that actually work.
Hi what is this game called and do you need a good p.c to play it.
there was also a batch of 42 block 40/50 up for sale direct form US stocks offered by the US Airforce 2 years ago, that would give them a better chance if brought.
Looks like they're getting the 40 year old F-16s
SEND IN THE CHAINSAW SPECIAL FORCES!
This is not even fair.
Hey i have a Question Can a mod plane that i download Use to in Multiplayer?
So this a mission win for the UK right? With 3 planes left in the Argentine air force, the CV task group would be absolutely uncontested, and with a T45 and sub in the area, no landing can happen.
Not withstanding what happens when you deconflict the missiles and dont dump 4 missiles per plane.
How many f 16 would be taken out on the ground by tlam?
Those F-16s sure did have a pretty paint job.
Did you forget about the UK subs? I think one sub could probably deal with most, if not all of the invasion fleet. Also are there no AWACS aircraft in the Falklands? If not that seems like a bit of a mistake...
Unlikely any of the very limited number of UK subs would be deployed there
@@dexlab7539If the QnLz or PoW CAG has to go down south?
Rule Brittania!!! Great Flying as always Grim Reapers!!!
That's assuming the political will in the UK to fight. Not a given. The HMSQE would probably not be sent.
@@I_Don_t_want_a_handle Oh, this is what Argentina's government assumed in 1982. "A declining UK with no will to fight for a collection of distant barren rocks." So very wrong about the British character - it would be easier to buy those rocks than to steal them by force.

The next government will be Labour. They rarely work in the interests of Britain.
So, no there will be little political will, and that is what matters.
As with the recent attempt to give Gibraltar to Spain behind the backs of the politicians, we have a Civil Service that is torn between duty and politics.
If Argentina tried and we fought, they'd lose. Hands down. Our military is too good. My fear is that they will be ordered to surrender.,should a surprise attack be made.
Thank you guys -top notch effort.
"Queen Elizabeth will be there in 2 days...."
I think you mean 2 weeks. Minimum.
Depends on how much notice the Uk's intel systems give in advance, and what the carriers are up to at the time. You can't really do surprise attacks these days with spy sats above and subs below. With the UK's strength in intel assets, plus 5 eyes, it's likely they would have plenty of notice.
@@godalmighty83
I wondered that.
Also drones and MANPADs.
And a spy armed with a Mk1 eyeball and a sat phone. I always find it amusing that there's an assumption that the Argentine military WANTS to fight for the FI. Loyalty is a funny thing and it's *very* rare for one democracy to declare war on another.

Should we send the bill for all those Typhoons and dead pilots to the US or Denmark?
nice battle but as im the 559th person to like i was looking into an old spec about planes and found that VICKERS ARMSTRONG 559 could travel upto 2.5 mach in 1955 how and if used could it have change the war or how could it achieve anything these days?
It could only achieve those speeds for a few seconds thanks to mounted rockets, it was an all-out interceptor, fly up once, fire a pair of missiles, hope to have enough fuel to glide/crash home. Other than intercepting incoming Soviet bombers it had no real purpose due to the ~250km range. Even the lightning, renowned for being thirsty, could get several times that. Would be a cool jet to play with though,

What simulator is this/software is this? How can I get involved, i love it. amazing job guys
Deeply doubt the US would supply AIM-120s to Argentina, most likely would only get AIM-9M.
I mean if all they get is the B or C5s then they don't really pose any danger to the UK. But will have parity with the Brazilian Gripen. Which is what is seen as the reason for the purchase
ooof well they won't be much use then...
I don't think the Americans would side with the UK on this.

at no time in history has the falklands been part od argentine
Could you guys do a video on what kind of warships Ukraine could use for missile defense
You should include in your planning trainer aircraft carrying buddy store refueling for both outgoing and returning aircraft. That would conservatively give the F16s about 30% more range.

Those f16s remind me of the bad guy micro machines ❤😅
Why not use more of the Argentinian Air Force? Like their 24 A-4AR fightinghawks
