Dietpepsivanilla Not even LA, as a Kings fan our stars didn’t get that much respect (except Gretzky). Had he played for the Rangers Bruins or Canadiens we’d be talking about a legend and a top 100 player of all time in the NHL’s eyes.
I miss him so much - I was blessed to meet him three times when he played with the Jets. He came up in conversation tonight so I found my way to this video. RIP Ducky - I'll love you to my dying day.
In January 1988 I drove my college friends truck from Bowling Green Ohio to Winnipeg. Iain Duncan and Dave Ellett were teammates with Dale. I was 22 just graduated college and spent almost a month in the Peg. One day Dale invited myself and another friend to his ranch and showed us around his property. I was in awe at his sweater collection and the Canada Cup pic with him Gretz and Mario but I was trying to b cool about it. He couldn't have been a more humble and gracious host. Almost meekly when we were asking questions he would just say it isn't this pretty cool?? THAT was an understatement! It certainly was! Amazing how just down to earth he was and he treated this Cleveland, OH kid like he knew me for years. RIP Ducky!
I will Miss Dale He was very kind to anyone who enjoys Hockey or likes talking to a great guy who treats people with respect And kindness And laughter a Gentleman And a scholar God bless your soul Dale
He coached the team that beat us out late in the playoffs in minor hockey one year . He came in at the end of the series thanked us for the good series and signed all our sticks and whatever else . Seemed like a as great a guy off the ice as on it , and I always remembered that whenever I see his name anywhere .
He was a friend of mine when I was just a kid….in Buffalo they practiced where I played and he would talk to me almost every weekend….you could only imagine how awesome that was being able to talk to your hero every weekend at a young age…and he was super humble and always nice….same with LaFontaine and Mogilny….he use to always start off by saying…”heyyy, what’s up buddy?”
RIP Dale Hawerchuk the most underrated star player in league history.
True. Had he played in New York, Los Angeles, Toronto or Montreal, he would have been a megastar.
TRUTH

Saw him play several times when I was in LA. Was a great player and the fans of Winnipeg and Buffalo loved him. Shoot, he was loved by any hockey fan.

I'd imagine he approached facing this the way he approached hockey. Such an example of courage. RIP
