NytZor I know right? its not that hard. I had the same setup behind my halfton dodge hemi a little while ago and had no problem backing the trailer a 1/4 mile uphill (no room to turn around at the end of my road) and a ninety into my driveway. If there were cones I would've hit one probably, but I had a much tighter space to work than these guys do. They have the whole lot for the front end to come around, I had a road barely big enough to fit the trailer down.
11:02 and the interview; Was Cory Chomos just pissed with himself or was there a legit bad setup for him that made it unfair for him? Couldn't tell if he was disgusted with himself (for having a tall truck for cones or messing up the backing-up), or if he had a grudge against Brian for laughing at him or if he just hated that one challenge there?
behinderteleberwurst Have you used an Iphone? I have no issue with my phone so you probably had a unlucky Phone. Mine works perfectly fine, why would it be horrible? You're probably just a Samsung fanboy.
Just like how every driver should be able to drive a manual transmission; anyone who owns a truck that can tow, the driver should know how to tow a trailer. Especially anyone who owns a diesel truck -- which are pretty much made to haul stuff.
Realize this - diesel trucks do NOT have a throttle plate like gasoline engines. The pedal on the floor gives the engine fuel, not air. A lot of these setups are designed to make max power at full boost, so they push excess fuel when they are not boosting. That deck plate Dodge is amazingly responsive -
Someone asked why diesels smoke so much. Its because diesels are a unique breed. In a standard spark ignition car with gasoline, they don't smoke until they are so rich they're losing tons of power. But diesels have something called a black smoke limit. The point at which if you add more fuel, it starts to smoke. But the odd thing is, even past this point, the air fuel ratio is still "lean" in regards to the stoiometric ratio for diesel engines. Yes, its very fuel inefficient, but it makes power because the engine is getting closer to stoich. Diesels aren't throttled through the air intake, so getting near stoich basically can't be reached without dumping massive amounts of fuel. I don't know a ton about diesels so someone correct me if I'm wrong.
A larger reason they are smoming so much at this event is that all these trucks are turbocharged, and at these lower speeds they are running too rich because the turbos aren't spooling.
It has more to do with the RPM they're at rather than whether the turbo is spooled up fully or not. At any RPM below redline, the engine isn't ingesting enough air to reach the stoich ratio because of the massive amount of fuel being dumped in. But because the power increase is worth more than fuel consumption, they don't bother to try and tune for stoich, but raw power output.
There was me thinking those diggers were mebbe 3/4 ton or something. Four tons? Sort of explains why none of the trucks would pull hard without a spool up and puts a rather different perspective on the performance... (We don't really have much in the way of 'light trucks' of this ilk in the UK, forgive my ignorance)
You should stack cones on top of cones just to make sure a simple mistake really f*&^#$ them good and hard next year. Really though... Why so many damn cones?
thegreatga I know right! Just pathetic. Especially considering there not all young guys. I would have done better. Long wheel base and long trailer is easy.
I think their trucks are to a stage where they are better suited for drag racing and sled pulling rather than trailering. But I do agree, you think driving a trailer would be no problem
Some of these drivers give me the same feeling that the show Canada's worst driver does. I don't understand why half of them can't back up... Lol I bet i could beat half of their times with my un-modified f250
LOL.... this is a good one.... im pretty damn sure i could pull better times and cleaner runs doing this "test" pulling the trailer with my 2013 tacoma v6.... Test has nothing to do with power, These guys couldnt get into boost to save their lives.
RAJohnson713 i'm pretty sure a stroked diesel engine has modifications to the stroke of the cylinder, like its up and down movement. What i'm not sure about is to whether it's a shorter or longer stroke.
all talk and no show mommy and daddy's money done bought me a nice tricked out truck let me see if I can pull a trailer and back it up god damn I do this shit everyday with me tractor trailer hell just this morning I backed straight line half a mile down a dirt ditch
I'm not into trucks but this is making me want to buy one customize it and do stupid things with it after that just ditch it and that's coming from a guy into purr muscle
The commentators aren't the sharpest tools in the shed. Must have heard "gas pedal" or "on the gas" a half-dozen times. The name of the event is "Diesel Power Challenge." The trucks are diesels. They have throttle pedals.
Dylan Johnson Yes, really. I suppose you wouldn't care if they called them cars, either...? Or got turbos and superchargers mixed up? It's not too much to ask for them to get their terminology straight.
Dylan Johnson The point is that a good commentator shows that they understand what they're commenting on - ideally, better than the average viewer so that the viewers can learn something while they watch. These two oafs are just a couple of bullshit nozzles. I would have turned the audio off, except I wanted to hear the trucks.
I only drove trailers when i did Military Service, but after some weeks of training i was better at reversing than most these guys, how fucking embarassing is that. To be fair, the Trailers we had were a bit smaller and lighter than this tractor.
Schleberger to be fair , they do spend most of the time building and test driving these trucks, they aren't exactly built to be work trucks so i can't blame them for not being experienced with using a trailer
Dakota Reardon this challenge is just showing who the mall crawlers are in this competition. people who have built 1200hp diesels and not tow and just roll coal around town for 12 year old girls
So tired of seeing these trucks spewing black smoke. Fucking idiots put all this money into their trucks and leave them poorly tuned. Just giving diesel lovers everywhere a bad name.
That white cummins being a 6.7 and stroked is one bad ass truck. It sounds like a tank
everything about that truck is bad ass, except for the ugly wheels
I'm not into diesel trucks power challenge, but I'm glad it exists idk why.
Kevin Smith Considering a few of these trucks run 10s, probally the truck
Kevin Smith why would anyone at all want to be in a supra
Lavon Miller killed it !
Why do these trucks smoke so bad? Doesn't seem very efficient, lots of wasted and half burnt fuel. Or is this for looks or something?
Drives badass truck, cant reverse witg trailer.
I think it's funny how it boggs off the line because of the huge Turbo. Truck can't even pull well with all that power. Stupid game, haha.
Raymond Newbill Yeah thats definitely a wtf moment
Adam SafeHouse The roll cage is required per NHRA rules for any vehicle running 11.49 seconds or quicker in the quarter mile.
Yea I expected the to back up better but I think there just rushing it
NytZor I know right? its not that hard. This is a tru showing of the all around capabilities of diesel truck,i wait for the Diesel Power Challenge every yr!
11:02 and the interview;
Was Cory Chomos just pissed with himself or was there a legit bad setup for him that made it unfair for him?
Couldn't tell if he was disgusted with himself (for having a tall truck for cones or messing up the backing-up), or if he had a grudge against Brian for laughing at him or if he just hated that one challenge there?
barath4545 I think he was just annoyed at himself.
I never knew Hootie liked diesel trucks so much.
Ford guys know how to back up a trailer!!
Damn, trying to do that in a rush is quite difficult, hats off to these guys, takes some skill to do that.
Money can't buy experience
How does 8 cones @5 seconds each equal over 2 minutes in penalties?
sik59rt I was thinking the same thing. haha
sik59rt the distance of his trucks nose just before the reverse.. massive penalty
sik59rt The penalty seconds are added to your elapsed time.
sik59rt He said:"over two minutes because of penalties." so i guess he added the track time to the penalty
sik59rt Over 2 minutes _including_ penalties, not _only_ penalties.
I dont get these guys, they knock one cone and co F*** it and just mow them down, the penalties take off way more time than a reposition
This new update for UA-cam on iPhone is horrible..
K
Why? I have no problems with the app on my 5s
Daniel Duong >iPhone is horrible
FTFY
What's the issue you're having ?
behinderteleberwurst Have you used an Iphone? I have no issue with my phone so you probably had a unlucky Phone. Mine works perfectly fine, why would it be horrible? You're probably just a Samsung fanboy.
That cummins has some serious power and super responsive probably gonna win again.
Just like how every driver should be able to drive a manual transmission; anyone who owns a truck that can tow, the driver should know how to tow a trailer.
Especially anyone who owns a diesel truck -- which are pretty much made to haul stuff.
What is lavon miller 6.7, stroke to?????
holy eye brows batman!!!! he should get an award just for those things
Black smoke is wasted power!
it's unused fuel, not wasted power
Realize this - diesel trucks do NOT have a throttle plate like gasoline engines. The pedal on the floor gives the engine fuel, not air. A lot of these setups are designed to make max power at full boost, so they push excess fuel when they are not boosting. That deck plate Dodge is amazingly responsive -
My 3rd favorite Motor Trend show behind Ignition and Head to Head😃😃!
That dudes eyebrows make me really uncomfortable.....
No shit bro
It's like he had a unibrow or something and he just..took too. Much off ..
Which guy?
superbarnie the guy in the red ram mega cab
I was gonna say something but didn't want to be "that guy" so thanks.
Thanks for the early upload
they should have drones flying above them, just saying
i didnt see any in the video
***** good eye
Perfect day for Bill Withers there to be singing 'Ain't no sunshine'
oh man, I love these series
Brian Lohnes is an awsome host.
Kinda neat that the GMC dually would've had the fastest time had he not mowed down all those cones at the end.
Cheering for the white cummins!

They take alot of gas btw
tyler kulman no they don't ;)

Are you guys doing this again this year
really makes me want to build me 1997 6.5l just to see how much power i can get out of it.
I LOVE Miller's truck!!!
I'm seriously considering my first diesel, I would like too know if diesel maintenence is expensive
jack morgan yes yes yes
1:02 I didn't know Darius Rucker was into diesel trucks.
AMC_TunnelRat Well he is country singer, aren't they into diesel trucks?
Lol XD
I don't always haul a bobcat, but when I do I make sure the binders are tight...
Waiting anxious for the next day!
Diesel powaaaaaa!!!
This is really cool. I'm not saying I'd win, but I think I could compete if I had a diesel lol.
Motor Trend Channel Are you guys going to ban the use of Ford's trailer backup assist from the trailer tow obstacle?
Why wont they just take the tailgate off? Much easier to back up. 1st thing I was taught when I started pulling a trailer.
Are these XDP Diesel Challenges broadcast on TV at all?
You should stack cones on top of cones just to make sure a simple mistake really f*&^#$ them good and hard next year.
Really though... Why so many damn cones?
***** Fewer cones, higher penalty? Maybe?
the camera guy doing the first reverse section has some balls.
All these trucks guys with trucks designed to tow, yet none seem to know how to do the most critical part BACK IT UP! Sad really
thegreatga I know right! Just pathetic. Especially considering there not all young guys. I would have done better. Long wheel base and long trailer is easy.
Maybe some just use a truck for payload instead of towing.
I think their trucks are to a stage where they are better suited for drag racing and sled pulling rather than trailering. But I do agree, you think driving a trailer would be no problem
thegreatga Some of us can back a trailer......
Sorry about that. He probably meant the guys who hit cones. Congrats on the win.
City boys always make for great entertainment
Some of these drivers give me the same feeling that the show Canada's worst driver does. I don't understand why half of them can't back up... Lol I bet i could beat half of their times with my un-modified f250
I think it's because most of them don't actually use there trucks, the ones that do have the fast times.
Well I guess we know who uses their trucks and who owns a showroom truck. lol
Buck is exactly who I think of when I think about diesel drivers.
6:10 Nice crack.
LOL.... this is a good one.... im pretty damn sure i could pull better times and cleaner runs doing this "test" pulling the trailer with my 2013 tacoma v6.... Test has nothing to do with power, These guys couldnt get into boost to save their lives.
What is a stroked diesel?
RAJohnson713 i'm pretty sure a stroked diesel engine has modifications to the stroke of the cylinder, like its up and down movement. What i'm not sure about is to whether it's a shorter or longer stroke.
Jorgen Wu its longer which makes it deeper
What cones?
A uniquely American experience
so it appear that power is probably the lease thing to worry about. its all about driver skills xD
YES!
typical "bro trucks"
none of them are used to hauling a trailer even though the trucks are made for it
Rollain Coal
I like KJ and the new host way better than that Ted Nugent stand-in you used last year
is this real life right now LOL
I hope I never encounter some of these guys towing on roads by me because some of them can't drive worth shit
all talk and no show mommy and daddy's money done bought me a nice tricked out truck let me see if I can pull a trailer and back it up god damn I do this shit everyday with me tractor trailer hell just this morning I backed straight line half a mile down a dirt ditch
This couldn't be more american
Tom Barton Accept if they were all drinking beer.

MURICA!!!
This event would seem annoying
I'm sure if Jerry's eye brows were positioned correctly, he would have done better. His eye brows are holding him back.
Well you can tell who actually USES the truck and who just drives the truck... Sad when u got a big truck and you can't handle it...
Amazing how all those trucks have such an ugly wheels.
I'm not into trucks but this is making me want to buy one customize it and do stupid things with it after that just ditch it and that's coming from a guy into purr muscle

6:11 crack kills
That shows they didn't exactly build diesel trucks to tow things lolol
Hi
This in colorado bendamire speed way
Yee-haw
They only know how to press the accelerator
2:02 - 02:35 ish ........LOL

frankenstrat25 yea i agree about that just saying most are built for drag strip or pulling competitions in this competition
looook at all the spectators.. oh wait there is none...
Half of them look they're on pills.
That's what you get when your parents are siblings.
Wtf happened to his eye brows lol
Spoilers at the end
guy in the gmc is throwing a fit because he couldn't see well pay more attention duh
It's amazing how these guys drop liek 50k+ into these trucks but can't afford a quality led tailight and get ebay headlights..
Damn it's like the only drivers that know what they're doing are the ford drivers. Why's everybody else some 20 year old hick with his daddy's truck?
What about the Cummins driver who won the challenge?
He's the exception, but his wheels are stupid looking.
They are more tuners than truck drivers. They can tune and drive fast but cant tow a trailer. Completely different skill set.
301 club
These big trucks, and some dont know how to use them with trailers, fucking embarrassing.
