According to FootballOutsiders, the best defense for the time period their advanced stats (DVOA) go back to, which is 1981. Better than the '85 Bears, '86 Bears, or '00 Ravens.
I remember when I first heard that back in the way I wasn’t sure what game it was, however, when I looked up their schedule this was the only game when you could see this was one of the games they were blown out.
Even if the Giants were 4-4 and the Eagles were 3-5 coming into this game, you know this would be a hard hitting affair and still intriguing as both teams looking to survive. Eagles went 7-1 down the stretch including a victory over the eventual champion Washington Redskins. And the Eagles had the best defense in the league.
@@Musicvidsetc Problem was, McMahon was a quality qb and did score and produce. The issue was he played 5 games with a fracture in his elbow, so they didn't score a ton at the end.
I was at this game at the 40 yard line in 600 section. Although they won, The Eagles were an incredibly poorly coached team (hence the penalties) and an inept offensive team. Kotite's offensive plane was to have short yardage passes to keep the chains going. It didn't work with the below average O line and didn't have his TE in the flat.
My first in person NFL game. Left after the 3rd quarter 😢
“They don’t play good defense here in Philadelphia. They play great defense.”
That would be an understatement in 1991

@@pronkb000Yet they still missed the playoffs due to lack of offense.
I was at this game. What an electric atmosphere it was!
Ray Handly the one guy who could make rich kotite look good
Or vice versa
Was this the game where Lawrence Taylor said “first time this team ever quit “?The ‘92 campaign was when the bottom fell out.

The players quit on Ray Handley cause he was a joke man took over the defending champions and blew it
Yes, it was THIS game.
The first game of the turnaround of the 91 season. Damn shame we missed the playoffs.

Best defense of the modern era.

Washington benched their starters up multiple score in the 2nd half. Had Washington not benched their starters, Washington wins that game.
