One of the other Mysteries of the Attack on Titan Final episode of season 4 part two finale is the relationship between Eren and Mikasa. Their dynamic is rooted in the core of the story both being the male and female protagonists of the series respectively. I know you guys seemed to enjoy the Eren and Historia dynamic video so why not do one on Eren and Mikasa. Their relationship is one almost every Attack on Titan fan knows about. It’s very popular and obviously important to the story of Attack on Titan, this video is made because for some reason there isn’t an explanatory video covering their dynamic in great detail. Mikasa Ackerman was the first character Isayama created after deciding on the basic plot of Attack on Titan. Isayama based Mikasa's design on a woman he met while working a part-time job before starting his manga career, so even Eren wasn’t a thing until after Mikasa weirdly enough. A lot of people don’t know this be Mikasa is named after a Japanese battleship and her character is also based on a game character called Sumika which is very important so I’ll leave it until the end of the video. This establishes the importance of her character straight off the bat which would explain why Isayama’s signature is a chibi, Mikasa.

Eren is the Attack Titan he is always moving forward always advancing he can never stop and sit down or rest. This is contradictory towards Mikasa who wants him to rest and stop moving away from them.
True she wanted him to give up on his dream and protect him from a great power.

And that is the fundamental quality that makes it a tragic romance. It can't be a happily ever after and we all know it.

Also want to mention how their entire relationship is a contradiction. Mikasa being an ackermann and taking Eren as her ‘host’ and protecting him was the one to end his life finally.
I don’t hate EM. However, I do believe it hasn’t been written well and believable enough to be romantic. The ending feels unearned
I think Eren is like a security blanket for Mikasa. Think about the traumatic situation that they were in as literal children. That scarred the both of them for life. Not to mention she is inspired and INDEBTED to him. It ABSOLUTELY clouds her judgement but the both of them are grown, emotionally damaged children. She clings to him because that’s her connection to “security.” And Eren is motivated by her too.
It’s complicated. Like this whole damn manga/show.
I belive the fact that he saved her is her biggest impediment. Its hard to be in that position, having a debt towards somone that can never be repaid. If It wasnt for her romantic love towards him, which clouds her better judgement (She wouldnt be the first), there might have even been space for resentment. Even if Eren would never do that, people wouldnt waste time to remind you how you've been saved from one of the worst fates possible. If only Isayama put some effort in developing Mikasa a bit more, their relationship could have easily been one of the best dives in the human psyche as per modern mangas.

@@jamess.2491 Yeah, I also heard somewhere that in the scarf scene in the finale episode os S2, Isayama was considering having Eren kiss Mikasa. But he said that he didn't knew because he apparently didn't knew how to draw that scene and he also didn't know how to handle their dynamic after a kiss.
God I love when people analyze relationships. Positive or negative, relationships are quite the interesting topic to me! There are reasons why people like pairing fictional characters together.

Isayama just didn't show enough of how Eren felt about Mikasa for it to be such a big plot point at the end. Even Kaji Yuki's interpretation of it is pure head canon. It is how it is, I guess.
Literally, Kaji Yuki's explanation really filled in blank spaces and needed to be in the manga. We needed more monologues from Eren regretting taking her granted for all this time, something about him realizing when he started seeing that she had a life outside protecting him, etc. The idea of it could be good if executed better but the way he was acting so emotional about her by the end really just baffled me rather than emotionally hit.

He doesn't know where this strive for freedom comes from, but it is probably due to since birth he was free and that whoever denied him the freedom to visit outside world and see the things mentioned in armins book he would never be free.
But along with it came guilt, depression and lack of self worth. He decided that he wasn't worthy of mikasas love and probably its better for mikasa to live a long happy life.
The thing he said in the end was supposed to be pathetic not because it's romantic but because it's selfish. But he wasn't selfish in that relationship because he did push away her. And he pushed away her because of his own self hatred. Just like reiner had self hatred and wanted to die, eren too was same like reiner.
Eren was so self loathing that he literally lied about making his friends into heroes.
Truth is that he still fought in chapter 138 to get the hallucigenia so that he can continue the rumbling, but ofcourse he also knew he was going to die.
Actually he wasn't even much conscious, it's hard to explain but he was shackled by his own vision of future and his own nature to attain freedom.

I'm not saying it needed to be romanticized or anything, rather that it could have not necessarily come out nowhere for some viewers and needed to be explained by headcanons. His dynamic with Armin for instance has more depth I would say.
Its common for for Shonen protagonist to not be romantically focused but on thier dreams. There were big hints that eren liked her.
I agree but there already were big hints that he thought of Mikasa romantically. I like it way more subtle. He had titans and then eventually genocide on his mind 24/7. Alongside only 4 years to live. Would be very unrealistic to just go and confess
Honestly I can see why Mikasa wants to protect Eren. As simple as it is, hes the only person she knows *the most.* Like your first day in school, you obviously go to your friend or sibling because your so unfamiliar with everyone else. And if they were to leave, or *die,* you would feel alone in school, no where to go now. But in this case, alone in a deadly world.
I wish Isayama had gotten some assistance at writing the dynamic between these two. Like, legit some basic advice could've gone a long way. Making them have vulnerable moments on-screen. Showing Eren realizing his feelings. While they do show a lot of PDA, it's so lowkey you might just miss it.
I think it's the weird way he went about writing Eren as a character. Because he's almost more of a metaphor than a person, more of mythical figure than a realistic depiction of a boy. That already makes him having romantic feelings hard to believe. But it's not impossible, yet again.
I agree. We are almost never in his mind and his pov is a mystery for most of the 2 final arcs. It makes of him someone almost not human so we are shocked when...he acts human
that’s the point tho we have his facial expressions to tell us what he is thinking. There’s plenty of telling moments to how he feels.
After he pushes his dad to eat the reiss, he looks down and has a face as if he’s disappointed with himself.
When he tells zeke that he saw the freedom panel, he is looking in awe, it’s the thinking he’s been chasing all his life, the anime ruined his expression tho.
When he’s fighting Reiner and zeke throws the rock at him to save him for the first time he looks suprised and grateful further letting us know that eren doesn’t have future memories of everything.
When mikasa tells him what he that he killed women and children, and that can’t be taken back, he legit had a sad face after that (anime didn’t get this)
After the table scene we see him sit in the window looking out. Once again his expression is very telling.
About his feelings: I
There’s the train scene eren and mikasa blush at each other. Don’t know about u but we’ve never seen that time of thing before, it must been smth.
In both of the times we see his memory shards mikasa is the biggest and central piece of it.
When he went to paths with zeke and travelled thru his dad memories, when he saw himself wrap the scarf around mikasa he had prolly the softest look he had done all season 4. Manga showed this really well. (This is the same person who previously told a girl to throw it out).
123 he had a look of desperation when he asked mikasa “what am I to you” since we know he would have ran away wit her if she had gave a different answer that says a lot about how he feels.
Heck even in 139 before his outburst when he’s talking about mikasa he straight up looks to the sky and remembers her from the time she said thank you for wrapping my scarf. All these signs are really easy to see on a second read through
@@lilmupp875 yes Isayama is really good at drawing facial expressions but the anime doesn't always succeed at keeping it. It's true there is many clues but most people need to watch the show 2 times or read the manga again to really understand it.
I think Isayama just had to read a history book to write a good ending. In other words just have basic understanding of human history and human behaviour. Unfortunately this is not allowed in Japan hence the terrible ending.
that’s the thing though, i feel as if their love for one another is meant to be so low-key and subtle. well to be fair, mikasa’s love isn’t as subtle as eren’s, but throughout the entire series we never get a clear answer from either of them, like saying “i love eren/mikasa”. However, i think a reason why everyone always thinks that their love came out of nowhere was because people are so used to the more western perception of love, whereas in Japan their perception of love is different. Love in japanese media, and especially in Attack on Titan’s sense is very VERY subtle i feel. in AOT there’s barely any real kissing or intimate hugging between two potential romantic interests, but the love is still shown in other ways like acts o services and what the characters are willing to do for each another. also a big part of AOT is the ambiguity throughout the entire series. There’s hardly every a clear cut answer to plot points stated outright during the show and even now, after nearly 2 years of it being over, there’s still things people are speculating about and wondering the true meaning of. I think eren and mikasa’s love is another example of that ambiguity. i mean judging by chapter 138-139 it’s clear he does love mikasa and vice versa, but i agree that for some people it sort of came out of nowhere. but there are signs throughout the show. they’re just so subtle and i think that’s what makes their relationship so interesting and beautiful IMO. i also think that eren getting a scene where he realizes his feelings just wouldn’t fit in the show because 1. he’s probably always had special feelings for her, 2. after the time skip he becomes more closed off with his emotions and it wouldn’t fit personally. Also while AOT contains many forms of loves, it’s not the main focus of the story + it’s a shonen and they hardly ever explore deep romance LMAO

To me aot is such a work of art because certain scenes are so subtle that there can be many interpretations and they can all be correct. Mikasa is my favorite character in any anime for many reasons, but mostly because i can relate to her as a woman. The OVA showed that if there hadnt been any war, she would have been a completely different person. The current Mikasa is fighting because she HAS to, not because she wants to. And the thing she is fighting for is not as grand as some of the other characters; she is simply fighting to protect and be with the person she loves(Eren). Silly enough i compare that to days when i have to go to work even though i want to stay home with my baby. I end up going because it means a better life for her.
Anywho, all this to say i have been able to interpret the show to the point where i personally believe eren and mikasa truely loved each other. And i find it unique that the author chose the route of romantic tragedy to end the show, though not surprising. Aot has always been about human nature and relationships. Love is one of the biggest emotions a person can have.
Mikasa is so cringy simp , her only script is just ereh and scarf, her character is based about her relationship with erenb, she is annoying, toxic, stupid, she wanted to kiss eren after his mental breakdown, after hannes death 🤨 her personality revolves around ereh, in every single situation, she screaming ereeeeeh, she is so reckless and rushed, look how many times levi stopped her from being reckless, jean also ,she has no goal outside ereh,, so boring without any interesting dynamic or hobbies outside ereh, she has no interesting ideas or opinions outside ereh, she has no ideologies or meaningful scenario outside ereh and scarf, she never said her opinions about many events,
Those who think Eren never had romantic feelings for Mikasa and those who think otherwise will never get along because both sides actually have enough evidence, interviews, panels to match their thoughts. It's always been a mystery and that's the problem: most things about their relationship have been left up to our interpretation. We can agree on one thing: Isayama failed to show us more scenes of them together or talking about their feelings.
HOWEVER growing up means accepting the author's choice to confirm both of them being in love. It was his choice, it was what he intended and ok he failed the built up but it was what he wanted for his story. and honestly I'm tired of people using 14 years old Eren to prove 19 years old Eren can't love Mikasa. You look at girls at 14 the same way you look at them at almost 20 ? Wake up. People develop feelings (even more after puberty) it's not supernatural. The only mistake is the author having difficulties to write it and trying to keep too much mystery till the end

I agree. AOT is a story which actually SHOWS more (through the actions of its characters) than how it explains things through its lines in the panels of the manga. It's like the saying, there's more to it than meets the eye. So peoplr who are not perceptive enough will fail to fully grasp its story. Im even still having difficulty understanding everything even though ive finished the manga.
But over all im satisfied by it. It's just that Isayama was not able to express everything in the end. Maybe he intended it that way, or maybe he just ran out of ideas. well never know.
Yeah I also agree that people can develop feelings over time for a person. That’s natural. It’s like I might not have loved this person when I was 15, but now that I’m 20 I do love them. Things take time and I think that’s what happened with Eren’s emotions toward Mikasa. We just never got to see those emotions and connections between them develop because there was a time skip from Eren being 16 to 18. Things could’ve changed in his heart. And in the end Eren choose not to act on or confess those feelings toward her because he was going to die soon anyways and for his plan to work he couldn’t express them and instead needed to push her away.

I think Zeke answered this question for her during the meeting between him and Eren when Eren mentioned the Ackerman's headache symptom.
They have some nice moments but they lack mutual understanding and deep, meaningful conversations. Eren sometimes saying sorry or thank you after 70 something chapters is not enough to make it believable that he has romantic feelings for Mikasa. And Mikasa ignoring Eren clearly being depressed in Marley because she prefers the image of him is another thing that bothers me. I used to support it but I have to admit it doesn't have much going for it.

I said they lack mutual understanding and meaningful heart to heart conversations, and on top of that Eren doesn't seem to care about Mikasa's business or what she's thinking. He barely shows appreciation for her caring. Mikasa on the other hand ignores Eren's clearly off behavior because she prefers it that way. It’s not exactly a beautiful love story, nor the most compelling of relationships, but as important as Mikasa is to him, their actual romance isn’t central to the plot.
@@dhruvbharija172 Armin was present there when he said that. Heart to heart is about intimate convo. The only convo they had was that 123 one, and it was short. Your standards are simply lower than mine. And Mikasa did ignore Eren's depression despite knowing he was acting off and ignoring them. If you like them go ahead but their relationship is very lacking in development and balance.

When Eren ask Mikasa. What I am to you? I think Mikasa answered right a "family" because imagine if they actually run away together and live peacefully away from Paradis. It will be chaos to all Eldian people. I mean all the trust and sacrifice of Erwin, Levi, Hange and other comrade died just to save Eren from Rienier/Anne will be all for nothing. Historia refuse to follow her father (to get back the stolen founding Titan) just save Eren in the cavern will be also pointless. Many already died because of the believe that Eren is there last hope. I love Mikasa as a soldier but in the story its clear they are not meant to be.
As someone whose not read the manga, but has the ending spoiled, I always through that Eren's feelings towards Mikasa were complicated for a number of reasons. The first one being that he saw her as a sister figure, then as someone to surpass considering that Mikasa was considered to be much more capable then him as early as the first episode. I mean, think about it, when Eren rushed the bullies messing with Armin, they all rose their fists with smiles, completely unafraid of him but when they saw Mikasa-they all pulled a Zeke when Levy's in the area and bolted.
As he grew as a character, he was able to see past that idea that Mikasa was just some roadblock or obstacle to overcome, and started to see her as a friend, someone he would rely on whenever he needed it, and yes, he still didn't think of her in a romantic light but after she basically confessed to him, he realized that she did and he had to process that as he's only 15 at this point and titan power or no, knowing that a pretty girl likes you is alot for a boy that age to process.
That's part of the reason I think Eren fell into a kind of depression once he unlocked his father's full memories as he not only realized that everything they knew was a lie, fabricated by a king unwilling to defend his people, but that it didn't matter if he grew to love her back as he only had a little over 8 years left before he died. He was always headstrong, prone to tunnel vision and extremely dedicated to his quest for freedom and truth, but his love for his friends was never in doubt, as the scene on the train car proved when he told all of them he didn't want any of them to inherit his power so that they could all live long happy lives.
With that revelation, that realization that he decided then and there that he didn't want to love her back, he didn't want anyone to love him as even if everything went their way, he would die at age 23 meaning that any romance he had would be a short one, that he wouldn't be able to watch any of his children grow up, or grow old with his life partner.
It's why when I saw his scene when he talks shit to Armin and Mikasa, for me, that was him trying to get them to move on from him, to forget their friendship so when he did what he did and was killed as a sacrifice, they would feel the least amount of pain possible over it. An act that must have hurt even more as by then, despite his wishes-he had fallen in love with her but like most things in AoT, it was a tragedy waiting to happen.
Also, oddly enough, Eren's motto about how he would take the freedom and anyone that takes away his applied to himself in the end as not only was he bond by fate by virtue of being an holder of the Attack Titan, but that in the end-he sacrificed his own freedom to have a happy life in punishment for taking the freedom of others(killing them)
Sidenote: Jean ending up with Mikasa seems like cold comfort as while the two started off hating one another, they really developed that bond through blood and conflict, so Jean must have hated that he got his crush in such a way. It's also why I can see why Jean wouldn't mind Mikasa paying respects to Eren even decades into the future as odds are, so was he
That's actually an interesting thought about Jean. You're right, I'm sure Jean probably feels really guilty about everything and the way Eren died, which is why he was probably paying him respects along with Mikasa in the coming years.
I couldn't agree more with your comment. I totally think you got it all figured out perfectly. I agree that Eren was falling in love after he punched Dina, but after seeing his dad's memories, he completely shut it down.
Too much headcanon in one comment, it is best to just stick to canon materials and confirmed statements.

he definitely didn’t know how to write eren and mikasa. i believe he knew where he wanted them to go, but he had no idea on how to craft a dynamic between the two. he had ideas, beliefs (as for the interviews + his feelings on em as a topic) but had to craft it into a execution that fell in line with where he wanted them to go.
and about mikasa’s “i’m strong” moment in the ending sequences of the manga - it was NOT the same as her earlier “im strong” remarks. those moments (in my opinion) were made out of grief. but this moment in particular was similar to her + eren’s moment with dina. she could have cried and just wailed along, and eventually let herself “roll over & die” but she didn’t accept her circumstance and reminded herself she could live. unlike her first moment of standing strong to remember Eren, she empowered herself to keep fighting. she kept going and didn’t seek relief in eren’s memories. those wings behind her were like symbolizing her as the actual wings of freedom all throughout the story. she was free in that moment. she was free (despite the obvious stress, she kept going) and continued to fight.
pt 2 + and also, the statement of her needing to move out of the way could be interpreted as a reminder to her AND THE READERS that it’s not like before. she wasn’t losing eren by herself. she wasn’t going off to fight by herself. she had friends with her that deeply care about her. it’s just like how armin immediately came to her side when she walked out with [redacted] out of the smoke. mikasa is not alone. eren felt alone and mikasa comforted him in the face of death. but at this time, she comforted herself - when she didn’t need to. she has people around her willing to go to hell and back for her.

He asks her " Why do you care about me so much ? Is it because I saved you when we were kids ? Or is it because I am you're family ? He gave her two options to choose from and she chooses "Family" HOW IS THAT A CONFESSION?? ( Eren is wondering if she is following him around for years and protecting him maybe because she sees him as a savior ) You see her blush at this but you can see eren is curious to know the answer.. why ? Because he thinks it could be the Ackerman Bond . ( which didn't exist but he didn't know until he confirms it by asking zeke ) couldn't it be exactly why he asked that question to her in the first place? He's not really expecting a love confession from her because he didn't know about her feelings until zeke pointed it out to him ... what's romantic about this ??

There is no Ackermann bond. It doesn't exist. There are plenty of times when Mikasa will go against Eren's wishes.
Zeke also literally told him that mikasa probably loves him since she is willing to go through hell fighting titans for him. Also mikasa replying "family" might be cause she wants to actually live peacefully with the one she loves first because of all the titan and racism shet they all went through.

in my opinion, eren is not conflicted with who loves him and who doesn’t. eren knows who cares for him because those people know he cares for them as well. that talk only emphasized that eren did not know what to live for. should he live on and carry his path or live on in peace & be around the people he loves? the way you stated it makes it seem like you were looking at things in a romantic sense when the talk was not about how he doesn’t know how certain people feel about him. the talk of mikasa and eren’s thoughts of historia rises the conflict of what should he live for.
should he live to love, to protect, or to create a child? > the main question. thats also where the contrast between him and zeke comes in. zeke’s plan would result in the downplaying of mutual love between one another AND it would prevent someone to bring a child in this world. he executes his plan so OTHERS can have that option. zekes plan would have taken those options away.

While I am indeed an EM shipper, it's more for the wasted potential, what-if, and could have been. I will never deny, the literal FRUSTRATION I feel on how poorly established and executed Isayama started them off. I am not against characters being interested in someone else first, later, or already established with someone now then break up somewhere in the future. This is such a rare thing to see in general in manga that isn't shoujo (not saying there never was, just as I said RARE). Yet, his lack of experience in actual childhood friendship/relationship and then for some reason making it a focus at the end just kills meeeeee. I feel like he was doing the "pick me guy" for saying he didn't want to be like shoujo mangka that had characters already have someone in mind when you have someone like the creator of Full Metal Alchemist that did it similar, but amazingly well (Hell the manga was just done well, go read!). Thank you for the analysis, I'd probably harp more on what was done wrong and could have been written at least a bit better. People say he planned everything, but it's obvious that Eren and Mikasa were an afterthought, and that's the unfortunate part. He has said he feels Eren is a slave to the plot, but you can bunch both of them cause of Mikasa's lack of development too shoot.
While I don't want to keep kicking Isayama's shins, it's obvious he DID NOT know what to do with Mikasa too much at the start besides being the "strong girl-boss" trope. This is fine, if it's executed well, but it isn't. I liked her cause she was strong, but I struggled to continue to enjoy her cause she was pushed aside often for side characters (and while they are important, it hurts the trio dynamic several times). There is not enough of her to get attached to, even if you add the manga bits that were cut in the anime. What makes it more frustrating is as mentioned is the establishment of it. The two meet in a strange way, but ok we can go with it? He builds her up to have love for family, but yet they only lived together for a year after she was saved and then the fall of Maria. It's definitely abandonment issues and co-dependency, there is love for her new family, but there's a lot of deep rooted trauma that just...never gets addressed...? This alone could have made her an interesting character if they explored that a bit more while she comes to terms that she can't always be around to keep Eren safe forever. This could have played out in the first two seasons on the side where she faces this insecurity as she sees him be taken away over and over (and isn't part of Lost Girls which is still a spin off some people aren't even aware about). Just overall, she can pull away enough to see him as his own person that leads to her learning she may love him or see she needs to just let go and come to terms he isn't the same person as before. This would also allow her to still be concerned for Eren, but they'd be more on decent terms. Then the season 2 finale would have more impact. It would mean she learned too late that she either loved him or they were just getting to really know each other. Also no jealousy, I actually hated that part the most for her. It felt unnecessary and to me did not make sense. I rather if there was some jealous, maybe envy that he turns to other people for help instead of her (platonically, strictly) cause she IS strong, but he doesn't need that. He needs emotional comfort, which could be another character development for both of them. JUST WASTED POTENTIAL HERE FOR HER-
Eren, bleh. I actually was in high school when the anime first aired, just hated the guy at the start. Took me being older to realize he's just a child soldier with a lot of anger and trauma (cause characters can have flaws oh shit-). He was still a hard character for me to like just because it felt like he's that person that'd accidently ditch Armin and Mikasa cause something caught his attention then come back to apologize that he won't let it happen again. (Like Mikasa says, "Why does he go where we can't reach him" or w/e) I'm aware he's a flawed character so I wasn't against this either. What will probably be mentioned in other comments though that I do agree with? He's a selfish guy. An extremely selfish hypocritical one. His personality transition is great though. It's just tiring cause the entire ending with him and Mikasa doing the Cabin!AU is if she gave him the right answer. That made my eyes roll, he suspects she does love him even if not genuinely as a possible lover or family to me kind of feels like nothing. WHY does it have to be lovers here? Why not family? Wouldn't he want to be with her for the last few years cause despite all the shit, she STILL loves him albeit vaguely answered. Then he'd learn later instead of asking her on the spot how she feels. To me, this actually leans to incel behavior than when he was crying for Mikasa being with another man after he passes. We can say it just confirms he can't change the future, but why did this moment have to be it? The moment should have been if they were going to war or not. Literally not this. This all only happened cause of Eren's, by extension Isayama, lack of self-awareness here.
I think overall, he shouldn't have established that they had a foster-sibling dynamic at the start for them(heck maybe she stayed with Armin, they have room there, who knows, at least they start out not labeled as...family?). He shouldn't have Mikasa showing intense, obsessive jealousy at the start either. People remember negatives more than the positive so her constant jealousy moments from the anime, manga, spin-off, games, etc---it's no wonder people can't see past just that, it's a dead horse at this point.
EM is like the Adrinette in Miraculous Ladybug. It's a trainwreck of problems that lack boundaries or good establishment that I want to wonder why I even like it. Then I realize the fans themselves give better content than the content itself can provide. AoT is still a good anime, just...not Isyama's ability to write a decent romance.

I found it hard to admit at first because I didn't want Mikasa Eren go to waste as an OG fan. We all thought they were OTP. However now looking at it EH would have been the best ending. Also Jeankasa would be beautiful in a way. Showing you can move on from a dark past and build a bright future. I think Mikasa and Jean would truly appreciate eachother. I thought EM was terrible after the ending. Worse than Twilight

There was a lot of decisions Eren made that even if it was out of care for his friends to live that were horrible. He made decisions and life changing choices cause he saw the future but felt no confidence to try to tell his friends until the Paths when by then it's too late. It's what made me angrier that everyone was just..ok with it once they remembered. Like?? Just so much room to react than laying there and taking it with him.
The end shouldn't have been at 3 years but prior, I'd be ok with Mikasa was still grieving. However, by maybe 3 years I think it'd be nice she was with the rest of the alliance trying to help or just more as moral support. It's like Isayama forgot that these two are supposed to be almost family at this point but nah. Jeankasa works cause as you said, it means she did have the strength to move on.
In the case of Historia, she did make her own choice but regardless she still gets the short end of the stick no matter if the Rumbling happened or the initial plan did.

Whats interesting is that people dont understand that you dont have to fall in love as children. Eren had to MATURE, and did he really have time for love? It is natural that their relationship changed. Its not like she lived with him her whole life. They only lived together for about a year or two before the Attack on their home by the Colossal Titan.
Eren himself wanted to truly know how Mikasa actually felt. I honestly feel like he was genuinely asking because he even states that he wouldn’t have left Mikasa’s side if she had been honest with him. He states this towards the end of the series.

here is my perception of EM (I'm EH) yes, Sibling was never a problem to me, for me, they are not the sibling and has the potential to become a healthy relationship if only Yams knew how to handle it but through entire series (except 139) Eren never show his romantic feeling toward Mikasa (sad to say but this is the fact) and the feeling we are all talking about is from one side Mikasa to Eren (her protection) and She never understands him right even when they was still the beginner in 104 team (how she thought he tried that hard because he didn't want to separate to her) it became worse after the time-skip when Eren didn't share anything to Mikasa and Armin, Mikasa wants Eren to share his burden of sins with her (but Yams decided to let Eren share his burden of sins with Historia) ,don't tell me he calls Mikasa a slave because he wanted to push her away but knowing he never uses any bad words to Historia when he needed her to run away, right? I think the most important chapter in their relationship is chapter 50 but instead of telling him to stand up, don't give up, and believe in himself like what Historia did in that cave she said some shit like ( Thank you for....) Yes I love EM when I was 16 (because I saw it was fucking cute that time) but now I'm 22 I know what a healthy relationship is and I can tell you EM is literal the picture of a one-side relationship before the time-skip and became a toxic relationship after the time-skip (here is my only view if you see it's from both side plz explain to me)
Yeah I used to think Eren and Mikasa would be a thing and should be in a relationship at the end. (I’m not going to say I shipped them because it wasn’t a huge focus for me when watching the anime). But the more I watched videos on it and watched post time skip, season 4, I realized that it just wasn’t right. Mikasa is way to clingy, and didn’t ever really understand Eren and created this fake image of Eren inside her head. So she’s toxic and not without fault in their relationship. Eren isn’t without fault either. He was always just more focused on moving forward, like he says, and getting the job done. He never really looked or treated mikasa with any care until after that scene in the field. Only instance I can think of before then is when he told the court room to leave Mikasa alone. I think Eren always cared for Mikasa, he just wasn’t shown to develop or have any inner dialogue about his feelings for her. And yeah you could toss it up to head cannon and say they had those moments and growth between them during the time skip. But if that’s when it happened it would’ve been nice to be shown that, you know 🤷♂️.
Also I can see why you are a EH but I don’t think their relationship was anywhere past just being very caring and supportive friends. But Isayama did make it seem like it was past that a few times. I see both sides but in the end I just feel bad for Eren because all these mikasa fans just blame him and never admit that mikasa was also not creating a healthy relationship.

Me too. Initially I thought the EM relationship was cute. The problem was they were so toxic. Mikasa was too obsessive. Her entire life revolves around a rose tinted view of Eren. She never really understood Eren for he was. Eren barely has a proper conversation with her, for what 10 years. Mikasa even gets so jealous as soon as he talks to another girl. First annie, then historia. Like that is just so clingy.
EH just clicked for me. They understood each other properly, and accepted each other even the jarring faults they had within them. Historia honestly seemed like a closer friend than even Armin before she was sidelined as even Armin refused to accept Eren's aggresive nature. EH had great potential as a ship as they had built up a super healthy friendship.

I think Eren was slowly falling in love with Mikasa after he punched Dina's titan, but after seeing his dad's memories, he completely shut it down. Because what's the point of developing feelings and fantasizing about someone you'll never have anyway? That's basically what he told Zeke: it doesn't matter. His feelings don't matter anymore. That's why he answers like this and doesn't say " no I don't" or "not in that way". Instead he chose to say " it doesn't matter"
He only confesses his true feelings to Armin in the last chapter because Armin presses the right button (talking about Mikasa replacing him) but otherwise he just can't afford to love romantically anymore. Mikasa is aware of both sides of Eren (we see it 2 times in the manga when she wonders if it was the real him and when she thinks about the murder in the cabin). She just accepts the fact that both sides are him.
She continues to go to his grave because she is free from the cycle of hate. She is the embodiment of the story's message. She doesn't use hate, revenge, or ignorance to guide her and has instead chosen to tell Eren's story to her family (and in doing so, teach them what a path of hate, revenge or ignorance can lead to).
She honors the part of him who saved her life as a child and the part she loves, not the deeds he did in the last year of his life.
I get what you feel and t's difficult to understand but we should be like her and escape the cycle of hate. More compassion and understanding could change the world for the better instead of anger, revenge and resentment

Mikasa not getting married to anyone is more logical than getting married to jean. I mean what chemistry did jean and Mikasa had. They didn't even had a single normal conversation throughout the series. Also, where is it written or anywhere confirmed that the man besides Mikasa is her husband or that child is her own? For you jean marrying Mikasa is an interpretation, not a FACT. Those 8 pages just focussed on Mikasa and not who she is with, that's up to your interpretation. A women doesn't needs to be married in order to move on.

1. Mikasa is taller than Armin. In the family scene the guy Mikasa is with is at least 4 inches taller than her. It’s definitely not Armin. I can’t see them getting together due to no mutual feelings and his recent confession to Annie. The hair and height makes me confident its Jean.
2. Theres the fated drawing. Jean standing up for Mikasa dozens times when she’s disrespected. Being willing to inherenting a Titan shifter over Mikasa. Jean’s dream. Etc. I’m sure there a wiki page going over their various interactions. Etc. etc.

WE have seen that hand many times throughout the series. This is perhaps the most important point that proves that her heart only belongs to eren. On her grave we see 4 roses, now interestingly 4 roses means that “nothing will come between the two of us”. not only that, we also see her giving a single rose on erens grave, now a single rose means “you are still the one”. I mean isn’t it clear enough to state that she is single, do you really think that isiyama has drawn it by mistake, this is not a kindergarten drawing where you draw anything you like, this is a fuckin manga that millions will read, so there is no room for mistakes. Not just that during her deathbed we see Mikasa surrounded by lilies. Now interestingly white lilies represent the purity and Virginity of a woman. Meaning that Mikasa died as a virgin. Isiyaama is trying to tell us that he remained single the rest of her life. Another important clue that proves the adoption theory of Mikasa is the bandages. Her mother told her to pass on her symbol to her children but we clearly see that she still has bandages hidden which implies that she never had any biological children. If isiyami wanted to show her married then he could have removed the bandages from her hand, but he deliberately did not to indicate that she isnt married. These are so many hints that prove she isnt married or had any children.
But mikasa has parallels with ymir who loved King fritz even after she died for about 2000 years,she moved on within years and married Jean, how is that possible.Even in chapter 138 he told mikasa to move on,but she said no.Even armin in chapter 139 asked doubtfully that do you really think mikasa will forget

I didn’t know he loved her romantically. and he probably didn’t until the last chapter. With characters you have to actually show them reciprocating feelings, if they weren’t shown then it wasn’t the initial plan. That explains why isayama literally said eren doesn’t view mikasa as a lover

I see his feelings towards Mikasa similar to an enemies to lovers kinda dynamic. He always felt the need to surpass her or prove a point to her because it is in his nature to be free spirited. She opposed that nature and it clouded his feelings for her. The reason I say it clouded them was because of the moment when he said he would wrap the scarf again and again while facing the smiling titan.
The look on his face reminded me of a face someone makes when realizing something, with a mix of other emotions as well. Yams was never really good at writing these dynamics, but there were hints here and there that there was romantic feelings.
Granted, the anime did an even worse job, especially with Mikasa’s character. It is a lot more believable in the manga imo. Come season 4 it became extremely evident that they both had feelings for one another. This is most likely due to after Eren seeing the future, he got a big reality check and realized he doesn’t have a lot of time and the time he has left won’t be great. The best way to understand these kinda things is by putting yourself in their shoes.
