Not many people know this, but Brian Blessed was actually suffering from laryngitis when this was filmed, which is why he is only able to raise his voice to a whisper.
Yeah, he's too quiet. Can't hear a thing
LOL!
He's actually more terrifying at the end there than when he's at his booming best.
Brian had a speaking part?
That threat was actually more terrifying spoken quietly.
Brian Blessed, with that formidable, booming voice - it was when he uttered matters quietly that the true menace of his character was revealed - fantastic actor !
"Percy? What exactly did god do to the Sodomites?" - "I don't know, my lord, but it can't have been more unpleasant than what they did to each other..."
Ben Tatsch Baldrick actually
But I love that quote
@@andreasnilsson5020 You're right, I got it confused. He does tell him to go "fetch Lord Percy" soon after, so I had to have been Baldrick.
Me thinks He burned them to a crisp!
Not a line you'd be likely to get away with these days!
I love Edmund's grovel walk.
Director - i want you to overact
Brian - YOU WANT ME TO OVERACT!?!?!
The best bit is the 'twanggggg' noise.
Especially as it was his Mum
I love the way Brian Blessed delivered that threat at 3:33. Really intimidating.
I always loved the first series of Blackadder, though most people seem to have dismissed it
I totally agree with you, personally my favourite out of them all. I have been shot down for stating this.
The best of the bunch, easily. More attention to humour, less to contemporary politics.
I consider myself a connoisseur of humour, and I can guarantee that the comic quality of the first series is unmatched by any of the others with the possible exception of the Forth. I am not certain of the reason for its lack of acceptance by a great number of people, though I have a range of hypotheses. It certainly is completely different to any of the other series or episodes.
@@chriswatson7965 I agree with your liking of the first series, the fourth had its moments but was not as good.
Grev A I like each series for different reasons, but I too don’t understand the prejudice against the first series. This is the series with the unforgettable translator for the Infanta in it. Also, I think there is a royal decree that anything with Brian Blessed in it should be held to be sacred because he is a national treasure.
these are great. thank you so much for uploading them, I hope someday I can afford to watch the whole series.

@@BBCComedyGreats Awesome playlist!
First series is the best, no contest in my book 🙏🏻
"Who will rid me of this turbulent priest?!"
Before Game of Thrones, there was Goats of Throne.
Thats a very modest codpiece
Every time I try to talk to a room full of people I start with "MEMBERS OF THE COURT."
Brian Blessed's hair looks like Joan Collins in Dynasty!
The Black Russian!
If you're read the history of this, it's spot on. The Crown essentially dictated to the Church what would happen.
Pure genius.
Rowan Atkinson is matchless!
That sycophancy is utterly brilliant
Flash Gordon flying blind on a rocket cycle.
Brilliant as Rowan Atkinson is, I didn't imagine there'd ever be a scene in which he was upstaged by a codpiece.
Oh dear, if the King did THAT, we all know what the answer from Rome would be...
Who knows? If this was before the Investiture Controversy, the Roman bishop had nothing to do with clerical appointments in the kingdoms of Europe.
"I've talked to God, who by sheer and unexpected coincidence told me to do exactly the same thing I personally want to do."
Well this is meant to be a sort of caricatured version of Medieval Europe, so it works for the purposes of a historical joke.
The great shame Black Adder is the other seasons didn't merge the sharp comedic writing with the intelligence and ambition of the first.
Brian Blessed has one of the biggest mouths in the world
Here's a What If? scenario for you all. Now, this question isn't meant to disparage any of the actors involved - Brian Blessed, Robert East, Stephen Fry, and Hugh Laurie all deserve respect as actors. Let's say, however, that you could go back in time and replace Brian Blessed with Stephen Fry and Robert East with Hugh Laurie (and then swap Tim McInnerny into the Harry role, thus putting Laurie into the Percy role). Assume that all of the involved actors are as skilled as they will ever be in a Blackadder series (just to preempt all the "Laurie hasn't hit his prime yet" comments). Do you do it?
What's with Brian's hair?
Flee!
Who played the King?
Brian Blessed
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Fingers cross
Fleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee
flee
first
You are indeed
He is the messiah!
Congratulations 😩
@@bt-5sovietlighttank416 thanks

@@ttplug6700 HE IS THE MESSIAH!
