There is a way, you can make both sims have the player trait (either have them complete the aspiration or cheat it on them) and they won't get jealous about their partner with another. That's how I can get open relationships to work in the game without mods.
I started with watching the later episodes when Bryce breaks up with her after she gave birth and I thought Bryce was a jerk. Since I started watching the beginning she had that break up coming from a mile away lol.
