This was the first game i ever played, i was like 4 or 5 years old and was absolutely blown away by the fact you could control something on the television so much great memories thanks for sharing!!!!!
The sprites of the characters were in point and the voices were the original, the problem with this game was the controls and the GOD AWFUL special effects for both the fighting and ki blasts...
But to be honest, the intro of the game was awesome, and the music was epic too, Trunk's theme has always been my favorite.

@@azumarill1403 it actually has sound effects, but because kid goku is so small and is not hit by his punches there is no hit animation and therefore no sound effect. The damage is still the same as for other characters. It always felt pretty weird.

I was like 8 years old when I played this game and I knew how to do quarter circles at the time but even my little fighting game knowledge didn’t help me
@@darriusmarcum4223 if i remember correctly the ultra special movie from like super buu for example required 2 quick half circles from back to down to front before pressing the action button..
The playstation D pad wasnt exactly the nicest to your fingers for this kind of circular motion..

I loved this game back on PS1, i remember my homie burning me a copy and we had to hold out PS1 lids open to play it lol had to use straws to keep the lid from closing

I remember this game. I loved it so much. Despite how seriously bad it was. I was always a little mad that the kienzan was blue and the kamehameha was yellow because it felt like an intentional middle finger
At least you acknowledge that it was awful. This might be the absolute worst game that I've ever spent money on as a kid. So terrible.

haha first dragon ball z game, it was amazing to me.... especially when you fight at the tournament and there was a sunset if you fight in the air, for the life of me I could not figure out how to do any specials so that was depressing haha

Very Fascinating to see characters like Dabura, Reekum, Zarbon or Kaio Shin as playable characters...
This was very unique as most games only have like a dozen variants of Goku and Vegeta and only the main enemies
too bad they put no effort whatsoever so it was all in vain
I loved this game. back then we didn't have much. And a game featuring so many characters, and the move list. It was simplistic, but so were most of the psx DBZ titles. Plus to be able to train your character and take your memorycard to a friends house was awesome!
Still though, as far as fighters go. Hyper Dimension takes the cake!
As a DB fan during the late 90's, this was like one of the games out there along with DBZ legends.
If this game worked it would have been the best DBZ game ever

eric gaza Technically, it didn't. Ultimate Battle 22 came out in 1995, but U.S didn't get in until 2003. Budokai came out in 2002/2003.

not quite, I BORROWED this game from a friend when I was a kid because the voiceacting is a comedy and I needed to laugh. I got the laugh while my friend (who purchased the game) perhaps still pissed off

Crazy I thought I was the only one to play this game. This is back in like 2000 or 2001. It was a special way to play these imported games on the ps1. You had to have the adapter and a spring. Yes. A little spring to put in where the cd goes to keep the cd spinning.

The good thing about Son's Directed Kamehameha is you can control it with the direction buttons like how Son could make his Kamehameha move in a different direction to hit King Piccolo.

The only way I was able to pull off many of the hyper moves was by intense mashing. I really had no idea how to do them.
presentation, music and style are the good parts of this game, the gameplay itself was awful. But i played it up and down as kid for the love of DBZ
"Presentation" in sprites, maybe. But the backgrounds and effects are just... Unfinished.

I wish they would do an HD 2d fighter again. The sprites in this game look straight out of the show, it's amazing.

I just started playing this game now in 2023 I was 1 year late from playing in 2022 like how the game is named Ultimate battle 22 I remeber seeing this game on a game magazine when I was a kid that I wanted the game but now that im playing im glad I didn't get it as a kid I wouldn't have liked it cause it's extremely difficult even on Easy mode this game is very difficult

This game was awesome.! Your childhood must have been lame for you to hate it.. It wasn't about quality when you played as a kid... It was about fighting with your friends and seeing who can pull out the moves and win. Your dislike was either because you couldn't pull out the moves and kept losing or jealousy over those who could... 😡😡 i hated my brother..😂😂😂 i could see why people now a days dislike it but in my opinion... A classic!!
This game was challenging, different and really fun. Especially when you get certain moves down. You'd think it's a simple science at this point but, on very hard or whatever the fuck the cpu will surprise the shit out of you. Hilarious voices and moves were crazy for that time. Still love the game to this day. Gotenks supernove was by far the best
I loved this game expecially for the ki used to nullify every ki attack instead to charge up like in all the next games XD ssj goku and tien were great on it because of the low cost.
And great songs, expecially the goku ssj3 one!

I remember being uncedided about buying either this game or db final bout. As a kid judging books by its cover, i made mum buy this one, as it had fancy fusions and ssj3 goku on its backside....
I nearly cried after seeing the awful graphics & the gameplay.
Many years later, here i am getting both feelings of nostalgia & pain from blisters on my fingertips performing these special moves. analog sticks didn't work with this game ;)

I think that what went wrong was it was released overseas too late. It wasn't released state side until AFTER we got the Budokai games. In Japan this game was released early in the PS1's life cycle so its flaws were forgivable. But here, it was released around the END of PS1's cycle

owned both as a kid, Ultimate Battle 22 and Final Bout. Final Bout was more fun to play, but damn I loved the roster of UB22 way more!

This game woulda been better if they kept a 2D background look rather than 3D with 2D characters. They look like paper mario...tho they’re drawn so well they just don’t mesh well with the 3D backgrounds. This was a big reason why I didn’t play this one as much when I was a kid.

bootleg translate patch. the official english version was released in 2003, and before that, non japanese fans had to play this bootleg. I remember because my neighbor used to have one
