Good video. I want to say disable is a nicer word than the word handicap. When you remove a dirty diaper from a patient you should first roll it closed. Because if there is any poop inside the diaper it will fly out of the diaper all over the place making a big mess if it is not rolled closed before being removed. Also whenever you turn a patient who is laying in bed onto their side you have to first make sure they are laying on their back in the middle of the bed. Then you turn them on their side. Because If they are in the middle of the bed before you roll them on their side then you will not have to get up into the bed with the patient to work.. And the patient won't be laying too close to the edge of the bed with no rail for safety, You still did a good job. Bless you, Amy
I mean its a very accurate and correct way to do this however I did notice two things, 1, the diaper was definitely not in the right position and should've been tucked under her a bit more to ensure a level and we'll placed fit, 2, you don't pull the old diaper out that way without first folding it over and rolling it up a bit first to keep the contents inside. Hope this helps anyone who needs it, a very good video otherwise 😊
Hello to my best friend Amy did you get my text messages from me could you please send me a text when you get a chance I would love to hear from you because I love the way you put on diapers on people I really want to talk to you about what you were doing in the video
Aw thank you for your content .. don’t worry about the negative comments at least you showed an example of how to change an adults pad. Been a CNA for 23 yrs and still hard to do it when resident can’t move or súper soiled but the important thing is give them personal care and love. ❤ take care
As a fully incontinent person i can safely tell you that diaper is not well placed and doesnt look comfortable at all..... the front pannel has to lay flat on the persons tummy and the part around the leg need to be brought up in the creases...... this diaper looks like a nightmare to wear....
First I applaud you making helpful videos, due to an accident I have been left with incontinence and I have to say there is a huge focus on thin discreet diapers etc but uncomfortable diapers that leak have a huge psychological effect. Please keep practicing as the outcome on a patient would have been seriously uncomfortable and leak like a sieve. For me thank goodness for the Internet I’ve found some great products that allow me to get out and live again, they are not the thinnest but are comfy and totally reliable which sadly most products in pharmacy’s etc are just not up to. Keep up the great work and practice will make perfect.
great video for an ideal patient situation. I work in a skilled nursing facility. Brief changes aren't quite that easy where I work. And we don't use scissors. We tear the sides of pull ups. For completely immobile patients, we do a 2x assist with the bed pads as pull sheets to help them roll. When necessary, we use a sit-to-stand to lift the patient. Then we can do a quick wash and brief change while they're on the lift. With a combative patient, we have to have 2 people.
This is so validating for me. I graduated in Dec 2019 but just got done with a 7h shift where it was my first time changing a depend on an actual client. The client doesnt talk but is fully concious and aware of what's going on. She has a broken hip and of course generally moves slowly so I was trying to be super gentle but she seemed uncomfortable. I stopped and thought back to school, tried again but she kept being somewhat combative/uncooperstive so I had to call the agency for help. I really wish school had been like the real thing
Julie, any advice for how one person can accomplish this? My mother is 160 lbs of dead weight and I’d love advice on how best to change her Depends underwear. She can’t help and we obviously don’t have two people available. Thanks!

thank you for making the video, I like how you wrapped the individual up at the end; I like how you combined putting the lower portion under the leg during the turn of the patient back towards you; a couple of suggestions - premeasure the patient's pant waist size and use the diaper manufacturer provided sizing chart to select the correct size; your goal is to have the diaper straight and square on the back/front/sides/between and inside the legs; if you have to re-adjust at the end - you messed up and should start all over again. sometimes using Aloe Vesta moisturizing cream as "temporary glue" to hold the diaper in place in the back can help from it shifting around; do not put your hands and face in front a combative patient where he or she can bite or grab you tightly or punch you in the eye. good luck! keep learning!
I just got new job where I work night shifts and it involves chaning the diaper for man in the evening. I've been nervous about doing this properly because I want the best for him, he can be hard to understand when he talks so the communcation when changing the diapers could be impacted by it. THANK YOU for this video, I feel a lot more confident now

Ok So I have been incontinent for years now and I have had to have help with my changes. To those watching If your diaper looks then there will be huge issues. The bed will get drenched. I understand it is hard to show it in a video but still Try to get better positioning on the diaper or there will be skin issues and much more.
Back In Diapers i was thinking the same thing ive been incontinent all my life changing myself is a pain i can barley get it rite im 23 its not easy or fun
I understand that as well. I change my grandmother everyday and the position of this diaper would cause a huge leak and do more harm than good. We currently use depends but those aren’t easy to change in bed as they require them to be slipped on so we are finding new ways to do this.
the 1 complaint i always have about these videos is that the person lying there is always in a great position. i just finished changing a 185 lb man that can't help me what so ever. dead weight. trust me he doesnt roll that easily, hes in a hospital bed with rails, i dont have much room to even roll him with the pull sheet. plzzzz show me how to do that easily.
I’m having the same issue it is very challenging my client bless her heart said you just gotta find a system that works for you that made fell at ease a little but when it’s dead weight it is very very challenging
Hi Amy, I was confused as I have to change patient (father) diaper, then search video on youtube and luckily found your video and changed diaper acoording. Thank you and Love from India. Mohan :) :) :)
Pulling out the diaper as demonstrated at 2:29 is a bad idea. A lot of patients who require diapers are incontinent and have fragile skin. That pulling motion 2-3 times a day for clean diapers is going to cause excoriation to their skin.
thankyou. I'm Two years into caring fr my M.I.L. with my girlfriend. @@sdanzey6441 Also she didn't push the pad far enough under the buttock of the side the person is lying on. You can see how lopsided it is. I do this stuff 10 times a day.
I think it’s better to delete this video and redo it, though I appreciate that you are trying to teach; but this is the worst diaper change I have ever seen.
For a start, the word 'Handicapped' is no longer used, also see the person before the disability, Should be using non latex gloves as many people are allergic to latex. You maybe excused as your subject was wearing clothes but you will find that it will leak they way you have them. That was 2018 I hope you have got a bit better.
You forgot to mention that you have to "WIPE THEM UP" before replacing the new adult diaper? Do you have a video abult the different types of adult diapers and when and how the different types are best used?
This is a lil harder way... u should fold diaper and place between legs while on their side. Then strap the side. Turn to laying flat position, and strap other side... may need to lean them a touch to pull straps from under easy and always strap them in an upward angle at bottom and down at top. This is what I do for a person who can't even move hardly, and has bed ulcers on sides and but and even the heels of feet
As a patient that needs help like this.... no. That method is painful. And the diaper is not situated for a female. Fold it in half long ways to make the crease go away and lay in the legs comfortably. This is why I have to train every single nurse, everytime.
Cutting the diaper off? Wtf? Sorry. That is not correct. You did not roll up soiled diaper. You also did not attempt to clean your patient front and back before putting on clean brief. Your method is more complicated than it needs to be.
