One of my 3 most favourite BMWs. This 5 series (E39), 7 series (E38) and first generation of 8 series (E31). 3,5 litre V8 and manual transmission! This is pure driving pleasure!
I remember my dad getting this car when it was new back when I was a 12-13 year old boy. It was the first car that gave me the "kick in the back" acceleration feel. That plus the looks of the E39 and the V8 sound is truly a beautiful memory and made me the BMW fan I am today...
True when you put your foot down the thing took off there wasn't an in-between. Moved to a vw gtd loved that car was everything the 535 was just without the v8 engine noise both around 7 seconds. Just bought a 430i GC 2018 model....reminds me of my old 535
it can't be a v8, it has to be an inline 6 engine because the specs he provided were of the bmw 535i e39 which had 3.5L inline 6 engine with the same hp, torque and size
I lived in Germany 24 years ago and had a E39 528i. Incredible car, at all speeds. Not a rattle or squeak after 80.000 km/50.000 miles. I should have kept it! Later I lived in the US and whenever I saw a nice German car bumping along at 50-60 mph I thought “if you haven’t driven one on Autobahn you have no idea what it is”
@@andersnielsen6044 Wow! Mine was like a rattle bag after two years/ 40.000 km, suspension was not up to autobahn demands. But still better than the Ford Scorpio 2.9 before that. How long can you whip a dead horse?
Wow you can clearly see how smooth the ride is at 180+ km/h is. It's very impressive for a car to ride that smooth at those speeds when it is from the 90's. I own a e39 and I'll never sell it. One of the best cars ever.
I have a friend, who has an E39, I have a C6 Audi A6, mine is quieter, but mainly because there's much more insulation from the engine bay... But... I like the E39 engine sounds better, you can hear it's a machine alright.
@@krokikrisi But the E39 had the option of double glazing. This radically changes the soundproofing of the cabin. If I remember well, the C6 Audi A6 didn't have that option.
@@krokikrisi I've been digging a bit here, indeed there was an option for the A6 C6 like double glazing - PR-4KV, 4KR. True, I'm not sure whether this option extended to all side windows or only the front ones.
I think not many modern cars can drives like that! So quickly, quiet and stabil!! Bmw e39 one of those cars, who can drives 200km/h+ for hour's and hour's without tired. As always million likes for author. P.s. ++ for gloves☺

Came out in 1996 but looks like it came out of the factory today... simply beautiful inside and outside and peak BMW design and quality. It's also basically silent at 250 km/h which for a 25 year old car is just amazing. Thanks for the video!
I have a US 1997 e39 540iA now 25 years old. I think this may be the first time I have seen a high-speed run of the V-8 3.5L engine. I can tell that my 4.4L powered e39 appears quite a bit faster as the specs indicate. Great looking interior. Thanks for the ride!
Really like the old E39 it looks good from the inside, it’s good to see how the owner kept it well even after 25 years later btw you should have shown the engine once and it sounds pretty good and it’s accelerate very well! Great drive! (Can’t believe it’s been 25 years feels like it’s just 15 years just passed by)
I bought the E39 520i about 6 months ago and whenever I get in it always gives me a very nice feeling I love the model so much and will take great care of it as much as possible
my mum drove this E39 as an 528i... the time where a 5 series weren`t full with all that electronic stuff and nonsense!! and this E39 is in absolutly stunning conditions!!!
depending on the specification of the car. I can tell you that a E39 5 series can have a lot of electrics that can go wrong. but much easier to repair then the new BMW'S
I worked for a rent-a-car company for 10 years back from the late nineties. After having driven almost all European and Japanese cars I received an E39 525i LCI as company car in 2002. At that point I knew exactly how a car should drive and I have had many BMW’s since. My latest company car was an i4 and I am so glad that I kept my E92 325i manual reminding me how a car should really drive and sound.

Hatte auch einen 535i mit dem M62B35 und war ein wirklich tolles Auto. Volle Ausstattung mit allem was es gab. Selbst als Audi Fan war es besser als viele Audis. Rannte wie Sau, als ich die Ansaugbrücke vom M60B40 draufgemacht hatte.

Had a 535 v8 with an eissmann exhaust for about 10 years, lovely car, only problem it ate fuel, cost a fortune to fix and ended up selling it for 4500 euros but it was a lovely car
Max speed depends not only on engine power....Gearbox ratios are important too.In this case this engine makes top speed in red rpm area in 5 gear.The final gear isn't overdrive type.....In 90s wasn't popular to make 6 speed manual in big sedans......

Oh-oh … hands grabbing inside the wheel. Some find it cool, I find it oddly terrifying as since I was 3 I was 100 times told by my grandfather to never grab inside steering wheel. Of course that was on tractors with no power steering where grabbing inside can be dangerous in rough terrain. Nevertheless. To me, grabbing inside is a no-no
That interior looks fabulous after 25 years. The car is in excellent condition. And it's a manual!!!

yes 535i E39 is slower then E39 540i. but 535i V8 engines revs much more freely then the 4.4L. 4.4L feels heavy when revving
535 a inline 6 or a 540 with a v8? spec shown looks like a inline 6.

with 250hp to go 250km/h, a little tomorrow, speedo lies 15-20km/h, and it was on downhill, so it can hit 230km/h on flat , ground speed

Downhill helped achieving 250km, but that V8 really should be a V6 with 3.5L displacement engine. My CLK320 probably overtakes this ;)
It goes more than 250km/h without going downhill, trust me, but it needs time
I had an E82 120i with only 170hp & it did 230-250kph (depending on wind)
