Watching a Pitch Meeting for a movie sequel that was actually three episodes of a canned Disney Plus original series based on an original movie that’s getting a live action adaptation and a third installment in the animated movie series is TIGHT!
It's super easy, barely an inconvenience! He just uses some simple observations coupled with recycled one-liners to make the impression of something fresh, whilst still staying in the comfort zone of his loyal audience.
The fact that Moana 2 was originally meant to be a TV show is giving me flashbacks to those Disney direct-to-video "movies" that have three episodes in them. Belle's Magical World, Atlantis: Milo's Return, etc.

The first Moana movie was soo good but I wasn't expecting a sequel since it felt complete... And soon a live-action remake? Disney's creativity in a nutshell.
It’s like we want to support good ideas so they see that they’re good and make more but then instead of that they just go “aha, money!” and remake the same ideas over and over because they can’t figure out why it worked the first time and transfer that to new stories.
But didn't How To Train Your Dragon feel complete to people? Kung Fu Panda? Wreck-It Ralph? I'm not sure that argument fits so snugly with animated films. Especially since now studios release stuff like Dune, Across/Beyond the Spiderverse, and Wicked where they PURPOSEFULLY only release half a story for the first movie, but like...that is not hiow it always was, this is super recent, yes Back to the Future and LOTR did something to that effect but A) Not animated and B) That is a trilogy so not like, "Oh this is actually one movie but we cut it in half to make more money." I guess Harry Potter actually started that but that was because Goblet of Fire had to cut so much out.

I had a horrible feeling about the insane amount of marketing behind this film. I live in Belgium, in Antwerp we have one of the largest train stations in the world and disney deadass put a 40m large moana ad in that station for weeks. You should do some more pitch meetings for some of the real old classics. Like Casablanca, The Wizard of Oz, From here to Eternity, or Ben Hur. Or any of the many great movies made before 1970.

Since Screen rant didn't exist back then there's not going to be any articles he can show. Not saying it will never happen, but don't hold your breath
It's about marketability as well. Making pitch meetings of classics which aren't even talked about anymore, isn't going to generate much traction and views. Not to mention the question of his personal interest in those old movies, because being forced to sit through content you don't even like (hypothetically speaking) is always going to be a really rough experience.

Introducing an otherwise insignificant bat-themed Batgirl-ish character who was thought to be bad but ended up being mildly helpful at only adding a song to the movie's runtime was something that not even the "I am Batman" Batman had the power to do.
The first 10 seconds was so accurate. The movie felt like episodes of a TV show. I just wish he did that bit if he ever did a Despicable Me 4 Pitch Meeting. 😅

Yeah but as people pointed out Moana 2 literally IS a Disney Plus show forced to be a movie because of how horrid the last major Disney movies have been doing and them wanting another success. Like say what you want about Despicable Me 4 but it was MEANT to be a film and made as a film... you can argue how much it works as one but it didn't start out as a show unlike Moana 2.

I saw the movie as soon as it came out on theaters and I really do wish that they did a series of episodes to then put on Disney Plus so that way it actually fleshed out the characters as well as story sequence.
The music in the first was all catchy tunes, How far I'll go, You're Welcome, Shiny etc, Lin-Manuel Miranda is a legend... who they couldn't get back to work on the second and it shows. Can't remember a single song from it.

Honestly, I was blown away in the theaters. I was expecting a cliche betrayal but she was actually good? I'm not sure that this is better than an expected outcome but it was certainly refreshing. Anticlimactic but refreshing.

The music in the first was all catchy tunes, How far I'll go, You're Welcome, Shiny etc, Lin-Manuel Miranda is a legend... who they couldn't get back to work on the second and it shows. Can't remember a single song from it.

Their business strategy reads less like planned business endeavors with calculated moves and more like a crackhead asking for more and more money until you catch on and stop giving them "bus fare", while also stealing all your stuff, your roommate's stuff, their family's stuff, and pitching 5,000 business ideas from their basement every day.

Honestly, I was blown away in the theaters. I was expecting a cliche betrayal but she was actually good? I'm not sure that this is better than an expected outcome but it was certainly refreshing. Anticlimactic but refreshing.
