- In this video I show off my first K-Line purchase. It's a Conrail Railroad Police caboose. I talk about the caboose and make a train run with it.

I was late to join the K-Line bandwagon. K-Line used to hold a K-Line’s day in North Jersey. I believe it was held somewhere near Newark Airport. I went there once and had a great time and was able to pick up some items for a great price. I was impressed with their quality and quickly became a fan. I especially like their die cast hoppers and the Apollo Rocket set.
I didn't know about K-Line day
I attended way back in February 2005 when it was held in Elizabeth, NJ. It was an all K-Line show. I purchased 6 beautiful Die-Cast Hoppers for $25.00 each. What a show. I left feeling like I really got some good deals.
Great video! Retired PC/CR/NS PD. Caboose looks great. CRPD local was the original. It was really the PC logo but with CR over the PC logo in the middle. At first, they gave us the CR to sew over the PC 😊until they could have them made up. It took a few years before they totally changed our patch. You really bring back memories. I was a Division Captain when the new and final patch came out. Keep the videos coming. Thanks. 😊
Thanks much for watching. I'm so happy retired Conrail workers are watching the channel. Nice to hear from a retired Conrail PD as well.
Hi Dakman, those K line cabooses definitely light up. I have 3 from them just like that and they all light up. The marker lights should come through pretty vividly as well. Might just be a loose wire
Thanks, I need to check it out
Very cool Shawn! Welcome to the K-Line club! Can't believe that's your first ever K-Line piece. And it's a smoking caboose, what a nice surprise. You should find an old passenger car that you can turn into the Conrail Police Training Car. - Ryan
SHAWN HAVE KLINE SANTA FE CABOOSE PUT ON TRACK IT SMOKED TWISTED SMOKE STACK AND MARKER AND INTERIOR LIGHTS CAME ON.JUST TO LEY YOU KNOW.😊
Thanks much
If you run Command, don't use the smoking feature on the Caboose. The roof will melt with 18 volts.
Thanks much for the heads-up
Also, they should light up. On the bottom there are 4 screws recessed in the bottom and screw into the roof. Take the roof off and there are contacts that make a connection. They sometimes break free and you may have to glue them back in place so they can make contact. Not a big job.
Nice find with that caboose Shawn! K-Line made some VERY nice stuff, it's too bad they're not around anymore.
I AM surprised the caboose came with a smoke unit but no lights. A bit unusual to say the least. Having an older K-Line (1990s) smoking caboose myself I'd advise you to take a look at the smokestack on the caboose to see if it's plastic or metal. Mine's metal and it got so hot it melted the area around it! Needless to say I disconnected the smoke unit, there was no on-off switch. My caboose does have lights though. If your smokestack is plastic then you've probably got nothing to worry about.
Just so you know.
Thanks for posting!
This is a command issue
I got one and it started to melt
I put it on a conventional loop and had no problems
I will open it up and see what is going on with the lights
@@Dakman And if it's got no lights and you've got it open put some in! 🤩
Very nice. That is one fine caboose, for sure. The smoke is pretty cool. It is too bad that the employee set didn't use a Conrail 80MAC, instead of the CSX order 70MAC. It is a nice set, though, either way. An excellent video, as always.
Thanks for watching
Awesome caboose Shawn.
Thanks much
K-line makes some great stuff
My k-line mikado is still my favorite engine
K-line has different grades of product
The black and yellow box products are equal to lionel and premier products
Thanks for the information. I seen K-line Yellow boxes, blue boxes and red boxes. I was wondering what the different colors meant
The caboose does have inside lights and also rear marker lights. They both should work.
Thanks for the info
Nice! This is one I've been trying to find for a while. Glad you got one.
Thanks!
They came with lights, a light board down the center. Pop the shell off (I think the roof comes off seperate if i remember corectly) check the plug and pick ups.
Thanks, I will look into it
Don't use the smoke unit because it will melt the roof and maybe also the side -- I have many k-line cabeese so I've seen this many times before.
Thanks for the heads-up
Hey Shawn. I have a few of these Kline bay window smokers. I recommend not using the smoke on command control layouts as the voltage WILL melt the roof! You see these at the train shows for sale all the time and the roof is all melted when you take it out the box. I had a vender tell me one was brand new and then I showed him the roof, lol He was not happy. . K-line came out with these later with a conv,/command switch on the bottom, but i still dont trust it to run for long. I have the SP Police caboose and its so good looking.
Thanks for the heads-up
Caboose looks great looks cool with that set. Thanks for uploading this my Dad is on the set Detroit operations Rudy Gomez C&S communications and signal Love you Dad Forever, always your son Matt
Thanks much and thanks for watching. It's also nice that the set has your Dad's name on it.
@@Dakman Thanks and you're welcome again great video you made you gave me idea I want to do with that set when I get the layout table built. Yea it is I know some of the guys on there but cool all the employees here and New Jersey too
I thought the 70MAC had a horn it should?
Not sure, I would have to look into it some more
@@Dakman Same here I have to look again
@@Dakman I checked again it's conventional so I guess that means it doesn't have it which is fine it's beautiful regardless
