F.Sor (1778-1839) : Menuet op. 15 . Göran Söllscher guitar

This piece is a long time favourite of mine ever since I first heard my teacher Per-Olof Johnson playing it in such a brilliant way many years ago.
The Menuet is the last mouvement of Sors ’Les Folies d’Espagne variées et un Menuet.

Wonderful, maestro: only you can make Sor's music so worthwhile!
A bit of history: Sor was banished from his native country Spain to France, on account of saying things the Spanish king did not like.
In Paris, he became one of the main driving forces behind the guitar. Excellent performer, decent composer, and IIRC a good teacher too. Plus, he seems to have collaborated with luthier Lacôte, to great effect ❤

Feliz año nuevo maestro. Le contare la anécdota del maestro Arturo Quinteros tratando de usar un español sencillo. Corría la década del 90 y yo había comenzado a trabajar como profesor de ciencias en escuelas. Había cobrado el sueldo y concurrí a una casa que vende libros y discos llamada "Zivals". Ahí me encuentro con el disco suyo "preludios, canciones, homenajes". Era una novedad en la casa y, para mi desgracia, muy caro para mi sueldo de profesor. Repaso las obras que usted había grabado y, me encuentro con la zamba de Arturo Quinteros. Yo mantenía dialogo con Quinteros desde que la había realizado un reportaje para la revista "Mundo Guitarristico" (revista del Circulo Guitarristico Argentino y que, para esa época yo dirigía). Me llamo la atención que Arturo no me contara nada al respecto sobre una grabación de una obra suya a cargo de Goran Sollscher y en semejante sello discográfico. Me retire ese día sin comprar el disco porque no me alcanzaba el dinero e intrigado por no haber tenido un comentario de Arturo al respecto sobre esa noticia. Le consulte a Héctor García Martínez si tenia conocimiento de la existencia de la grabación. Héctor, gran amigo de Arturo, tampoco sabia nada. Luego le pregunte a mi maestra, María Bello, quien tenia contacto con Arturo; tampoco sabia nada. Concluí que tampoco Arturo tendría conocimiento de la existencia de la grabación de su zamba "Homenaje a Falu". Bien, le pedí dinero prestado a mi madre y corrí a comprar el disco. Hice una copia y saque fotocopias de la portada y el libro que acompaña el CD. Entonces las fotocopias las puse en un sobre cerrado al cual lo metí dentro de un sobre mas grande al cual metí la copia del CD y una carta mía. Conocía los gustos de Arturo. Sabia de su amor por Villa Lobos, de su devoción por Falu y por Julian Bream. El texto de la carta le sugería que recorriera determinadas obras. Villalobos, el preludio tres y, en el teto le consultaba si esa versión no era comparable con la de Bream, por ejemplo. Lo fui llevando y, al final le hice que escuchara la grabación de la zamba. Casi de muere de la sorpresa y alegría. Gracias a eso, me dedico una suite y una milonga "La buena Nueva". Y mi travesura le alegro la vida al querido Arturo. Lastima que no escucho su versión de "Desde Lejos". Fuerte abrazo maestro y gracias por su arte.
