Plowed Treasures

- This detection was so much fun. Matt and I find some really great coins, buttons, Civil War relics, and other treasures in this Indiana field. This is the same old historic homesite from an earlier hunt, but the soil was turned over on this trip. I had some audio issues so had to do some voice-over work toward the end of the video, but I wanted to share as much as possible and think the video worked out okay. I hope you are okay with it.
About Aquachigger:
I enjoy metal detecting for historical items like gold coins, relics, silver coins, and other buried treasures. I also metal detect for gold and silver nuggets and even meteorites. I like to make videos that promote my choice of lifestyle that includes outdoor adventure,
metal detecting, yapping, searching for river treasure, SCUBA diving, exploring abandoned places, hiking, caving, caring for animals and pets, and observing the things outdoors that often go unnoticed by most people who are not familiar with outdoor adventures and nature. I keep my UA-cam "Aquachigger" channel family-friendly and hope you subscribe if you like my style.
BTW, you can also catch me here, / chiggsarmy ,but I may get a little edgier there. FB isn't a place for kids anyway...lol.

Civil War Relics in Indiana once again, a South Carolina button to boot! Much of the video had some audio issues, it was extremely windy, so I did a voice-over to help explain what you are seeing. I hope it worked out okay. Usually, I just trash the damaged video clips but thought I'd try this approach to see how it goes over. I hope you enjoy it!
Chig we will take ya any way we can get ya! Always a pleasure to watch your content!
Awesome congrats on coin and button
The annoying song +the whispering ...
Still happy as hell you came to Indiana even though you haven’t found a lot so far. That’s how it is a lot of times in Indiana. You inspire me to get out and make more videos, which I intend to get to this weekend.
You've done a few of them. And actually at times it's nice. You show the find and dig them then cleaned relic and your description. That lead piece could have been a bearing block for some type of axel or shaft to ride on. Obviously not at high speed. Perhaps a well pump. Love trying to figure out the oddball relics. It forces us to do the detective work 👍. Thanks for sharing this hunt Chigg.
The lead thing that you found is an old Babbitt bearing. It was quite common to have bearings made of Babbitt back in the turn of the century
Agree.
Still made today. Search "Split Babbitt Bearing" images.
Invented in the 1800s and still used today. Quality.
I like the voice over your not fighting against the wind, also not winded when your huffing and puffing around the field.
Was goin to mention that . Old steam engine stuff
The piece of lead may be a babbitt bearing for some type of farm equipment that had a rotating shaft. Very common prior to ball bearings and are similar to modern “plain bearings” like on a car motor’s crankshaft except babbitts are poured with a molten lead alloy.
They usually are thin though.
Looks like babbit bearing to me too
That's what I thought also
Thanks Matt and Beau it was a great time
I had a blast, learned a lot from you too! Thanks again Chigg!
Another great video. It always cheers me up to see a new video of yours pop up.
Always entertaining and fun! What people underestimate is your skill on deciphering signals!
Chigg never gives up digs it all absolutely love your videos and you to 😁😁😁💟
the loose boot scoot maneuver ! also great for leafy Duffy stuff ! great trick sorts out old and new when old sites get modern dribbled on top.
Thanks for the adventure Chigg! That's an awesome place Matt has to start out his metal detecting journey! I wish him good luck!
I really like your detecting videos because I'm trying to get started in it myself and I learn a lot from you. I really like your caving videos even more. I hope you do some more cave exploration soon. Be safe
Thanks Chigg for another great AQUACHIGGER ADVENTURE
Congratulations Beau on the south Carolina button. Now when you detect in south Carolina you will find an Indiana button. See ya on the next one, Mike
Another Aquachigger Adventure that I've enjoyed more than once. You know, I can be a slow learner, but know I have your Playlists when I want or need to re-watch. Thanks as always, Beau.
Glad you enjoy them.
@@aquachigger You've created a massive library where I can always find something I haven't watched or want to watch again. Thanks again, Beau.
@@aquachigger You make it easy, Beau. Thanks.
Hey I really enjoyed the voice over because you were able to add pics and take my time to explain some techniques and also add photos of tools and the history of them. I enjoyed the education. Thanks!
Doood, your knowledge of antiquity is equaled only by your findings!
It's funny, at Detectival in September, I found an 1888 Queen Victoria Penny with beautiful green patina. I rubbed it and the detail was so easy to see. Back in the hotel I am washing my other finds and picked up the penny and already had the toothbrush and the water on it. Your voice is in my head, "when you put water on it, you can't put the detail back". Boy you were right! I have to get the light on it the right way to see what it says. I have one of those monkey wrenches with a wooden handle. It was my father's. The voice over was great.
Really lot of cool finds those buttons are really cool. I like those large cents. Keep digging chigg
NICE SET OF FINDS FOR A BIG LANDSCAPE KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK 👍. 😊
Meteor Beau that rock 🪨 could very valuable!!! Found some when was a kid !!!
The square lead with the round inner could be part of the pouring to secure a metal railing in a stone base.
Common way in the Victorian era here in the UK 🇬🇧
Thank you for taking us along on another great adventure 👍
Always good! Keep up the good work mate
Very enjoyable, liked the historical aspect of monkey wrenches.
The lead piece looks like a dampener. When they ran water into the house from the well they would put lead around the pipe where it went through the stone foundation. When you first turn the water on, or start a inside pump, the pipes would vibrate or shake. I've seen them on old homes that I've helped restore or in some cases tore down. But it kept the copper pipe from wearing a hole in it when it was in contact with stone foundations.👍♋
Your show is so much better than anything on cable channels.
Mark you are awesome for inviting Chig!
Y'all found some good stuff thanks for sharing mr chigg
That lead thing you found with the groove is that a babot bearing. I know before ball bearings they used babot as a bearing surface. I know it was used in all kinds of applications even very old Ford engines
Deep in Yankee land the Chig just happens to find a southern CW button. Man, that guy has the luck.
What a spot. I hope you do get a chance to visit it again. So many nice finds.
Thanks Matt.
I take a drink every time you call Matt "Mark".
Fantastic few days detecting thanks for taking the old geezer along I really enjoyed it
Happy to hear that.
Aloha Chigg, Chemtrails in Indiana too. If the "file" is thicker toward the handle, it's probably a chisel. Files are usually an even thickness lengthwise.
i like your narration out in the open field and you could hear the crickets in the background from your backyard at home keep up the fight
Those are spring peepers! Love those little guys.
Odd to find a button from the south awesome day for the fines chigger 👍🐈
Wow I live in. Sc. Love to have that button nice find. Thanks from. Sc
I often work on vintage engines and machinery (late 1800's, early 1900's). Your item at 3:50 reminds me of a piece of a poured babbit bearing that vintage equipment would use.
That was an awesome field hunt Chiggs ! You made some fantastic finds. Over the years my best finds have always been from hunting farm fields. Love the S. C. button ! Enjoyed the tool display & your explanation about them. Always learn something new on your adventures. Safe trip home & best regards always !
Great set of videos in Indiana. Hope you make Matt a regular guest to this channel. The wrench history was sweet too.
Nice! Love the videos
Another great vid.
Fairly confident there were many angry people there at some point breaking dinner utensils and throwing the handles into the field. lol
I've found ok amount of capped bust out in fields in Illinois.. With what your guys are finding I'd imagine good chances some early silver. Somewhere
Loved the clay marble we have found a couple ourselves.
Looks like a great day lots of cool finds
You may want to consider going over to Vincennes Indiana. Lots of early history there. Fields should be a treasure trove!
Great video!
Unbelievable the stuff your find it in town here in Tippecanoe county!! Just wow!!! You got to come back chigger!!
CONGRATS on the SC button Beau!!!!
I think the wavy piece of metal is a door coat hanger. we have one on a door of our 1984 house. The wavy part is facing upwards but on the bottom orientation of the piece.
Thanks Chigg , Howdy from Ohio
Thats as good as gold great finds
See you on the next video GOD BLESS
Wish I knew you were in Indiana. You were close to me. My husband and I metal detect also and live watching your videos. Would have loved to meet you.
Been known to make a bowl or two disappear back in the day. Haha
Nice hall!!❤
Good evening from Southeast South Dakota
I got the subtle Beatles reference Chig... well played 😂
Most awesome. Happy someone got it.
Nice finds
miss your awesome river videos! still love these though :)
Cool & quick finds. Matt has a good place to search. It was nice of him to invite you over. He should consider a starting a YT channel and talking you into putting a link to his channel here on this page.
Nooooo. You found a SC button? I’ve never found one and I live there. Geeezzz. 😆 congrats.
Oh my nenith Chigg, I love me some nice sqeakers and ferocious samsqanches dude😮
I have two of those poked cents, my grandfather said it was a popular thing to do for a watch or key fob.
Yeah we want to see more from Tippecanoe county in indiana. Southern Indiana would be a big treasure hunt also like has been mentioned.
Seems like the item at the 5:30 mark is a broken in half file. Amazing finds.
I was thinking a chisel or gouge for wood.
That rubber coated piece is an over the door hanger holder. There would have been a piece coming down 90 degrees from the flat bar at the top. The edge that has the scallops is the part where the hangars rest. My wife and I have one on our closet door that she uses to hang dresses for the next days wearing.
Thanks
I think that the object you found at 19:04 could be a base cap from a hand grip, or nib, from a scythe.
at 3:37, it is a bearing for a tool shaft. broken in parts and tossed.. part of a babbit bearing..
The rimfire cartridge looks to be a .32, which was used in the Smith & Wesson number 2. It was a private purchase revolver used during the CW.
Also, both the Spencer rifle and carbine used 56-50 rimfire cartridges. Wilder's "Lightning" Brigade of IL and IN mounted infantry were mostly armed with Spencer rifles, at Col. Wilder's own expense, and fought in the CW Western Theater.
I found an identical SC button in western PA, except it's a cuff button.
Found at a cellar hole where I dug probably 20 civil war, and pre civil war buttons.
15:17: I'm a blacksmith. That looks more like a struck tool, like a top fuller than it does a hammer to me. It would be set down on top of the hot iron and struck with a hammer to create a fuller or some other detail in the iron.
Thanks. That could very well be.
@@aquachigger You can USUALLY tell a struck tool by the mushrooming on the end that is struck. Great hunt btw!
Another chig adventure great stuff keep them coming mate 👍😁
Will there be a picture at the end .?😁
maybe😂
Most awsome -pawsom 😆
I had the same problem here in Illinois today. The wind is relentless out in those open fields. Without headphones it's really hard to hear those good signals, or any signals
that square lead pipe could be the bearing for a windmill ,they use to use lead as bearings
Thats what I was thinking, some sort of babbet bearing
@@BOZOSMITH-xw3ms you must be a older guy to remember a babbet lolol
I like to use a torch, a little bit of gasoline and wire wheel on a hammer drill. Also *pro tip* if you scold youre coin in ice water after what i call "the procedure" it really brings out the color in the coin.
Old wood chisel n the round part with the hole is the chisel handle capping to stop the wood splitting
The Wind Is Geting It Hear In N/w AL & Ms. 😎👍✌.
Excellent video!!!!
Be careful don't fall chigger 😅👍
That short handle lil tool is probably a rat tail file or rasp for sanding horse hooves.
That file thing is actually a standard wood chisel . Have a couple like it
I think somewhere someone has a nice collection of Spoonbowls!
We find all kinds of different state militia buttons in Indiana. I think several families moved to here after the war.
I find those wrenches along the Red River in Winnipeg.
Nice.
Square hinge, is the hinge from a carpenter's folding ruler. The broken file looking things could be broken chisels, repurposed from old files. The keyhole escutcheon looks like the ferrule from the blade end of a chisel or file (possibly a pot handle, but they tend to be round holes)
Blacksmith/Joinery tools, pretty much as you'd expect on a 19th C homestead
That makes sense. Thanks for the id's.
It’s very windy everywhere I think Chigg it’s been if i had to guess around 30+ mph here in Tn today
I think the back of that button states, "The state of California has determined the contents of this button may cause cancer." 😝 I wonder if wood chisel looking thing might fit into the brass piece with the rectangular hole....being a brass escutcheon where the chisel fits the wooden handle?
A lot of old farm equipment had lead poured babbitt bearings, pretty much a lost art but there are a few people still doing it to restore old equipment
Hey Chigg and Matt I think you said.
@14:20, and earlier, looks like an old carpenters chisel to me or not, maybe, who knows???.............
They look like chisels I make
24:36 over the door clothes hanger. 😂
The unbreakable rock: it came from the canadian shield. Pushed down by one or multiple glaciers. That area of the state has had several glaciers over it.
There was one of the largest union civil war pow camps (imprisoned confederates), Camp Douglas on the south edge of Chicago.
Have you ever probed any discolored or depressions in the dirt around the old house sites? I am sure you can find some cool old bottles in the old out house pits. I have seen some channels that do that almost exclusively and they make out pretty good. Those old house sites must have some some where around there.
To my eyes 24:35 it's a hook to put over a door to hang your clothes on. It's missing the bent piece to hold it on the door.
Looks like a shelf bracket
