  • Join me, Robert Gessner, founder of Gessner Gems, as I take you on a very rare journey into depths of a Tanzanite Mine. The operators and owners of largest and centre-most Block C, TanzaniteOne/STAMICO, operate this shaft, Main Shaft. This shaft lies in the centre of tanzanite deposit, and as you see, takes 5 minutes in the skip to get to the bottom of the shaft and to the deepest areas currently being mined. I have spent 8 years of my life working in this deposit and this mine learning about the fascinating geology of this gemstone. Just see how much work, science and cost goes into this colored gemstone mine.

    Thank you so much for teaching us of the difficult, hard and dangerous experience this entails. Makes me appreciate gems on a different level. I now think of the working men and not just the beauty of the gems. I guess i can say the beauty is in the hands of all the men involved in this process. Thank you all.

    I didn't actually see them finding any tanzanite stones. Would they be in those blue bags that were hauled to the surface? Pardon my ignorance.

    suprised yall weren't wearing respirators or face masks becuase off all the dust from the rocks severe health hazard

    • @heddabanks9829
      @heddabanks9829 4 роки тому +4

      They probably don't want to spend the extra money to keep the actual miners safe. That would be money coming out of their profits and if the miners get sick they will just replace them.

    • @patrickmarsh778
      @patrickmarsh778 2 роки тому

      @@heddabanks9829 probably not the case, a mask etc is very difficult that deep down . you saw the drill type is hydraulic so dust is pretty low. same with blasting they wait until its all down overnight. wetting everything helps with this as well.

    • @darcyjames2184
      @darcyjames2184 Рік тому

      @@patrickmarsh778 they would wash the face down like you do in any other UG mine for dust suppression. It is surprising that they wouldn't at least give them self rescuers given how small and janky that mine is.

    Why is the guy panting and puffing while he speaks (very low volume) at the end of this video ? Did he actually do some work other than simply walking to the face and back to/from the skiff ? Or is talking a really labor intensive activity for him ! ??

    • @invictaland1983

      Probably due to lack of oxygen in the mine shaft.
