  • In order to understand the potential for colour enhancement of spinels by heat-treatment, we have performed heat-treatment experiments. For this purpose, we have acquired a heat-treatment furnace in Mogok and used the local heat-treatment techniques available in the Mogok area

Best and most valued gem is untreated.
Even slightly different colour. Natural is highly prized. Celebrate all colours of the beautiful gems.

    No cert. No buying.
Thanks for making this known. Many people think that all Spinels are unheated. You have proven it otherwise.

By the look of the Spinel found at the mine, I would have left it as is. It was a beautiful color without the need for any treatment IMO.

I want to ask if they heated an already cut ruby or uncut and I also want to ask if you a heat treatment can be done in an already faceted gem.

It's a little tough to make out what the treatment did to the stones as the clip starts with rough crystal then at the end, the guy shows a pre-packed box of faceted and polished gems. You don't actually get a good view of the rough at the end of the process. Can someone clarify? (If I was to guess, I'd say the heat removes the orange-brown hue?) 🤷🏻‍♂Apparently, using vinegar (3:47) is no secret as that comes out in the conversation but the temperature is a secret.

It has always been said Spinel is not heat treated because treating it would not improve color wipe away inclusions like Sapphire or ruby

@ali akbar heidari - It is called a *_crucible_* in chemistry, it is made of a special heat resistant ceramic. They are also used in blast furnaces. The ones you can see here are low quality containers : they can only be used once and they break as the man says. A quality crucible is probably too expensive for their use -I am a european biochemist.
