The way you made that gear ⚙️ is impressive and I think you show to the people without a lathe or milling machine, how to easy make gears . Well done Martin 👍🏻
but he was using lathe. he made body of the gear from that bigger chunk of round stock.
@@oorangejuce true! But if you have the cylinder you can grind the shape with a file. The most difficult thing there is to make teeth at the gear. And he made it without using milling machine. That is an extraordinary thing 👌
@@CoolAgainRestoration true true. that would be a lot of grinding..
So when are you putting out a new project video??
@@oneshotme I apologize if my comment was inappropriate or offencive.
I'm in complete agreement with the other commenter: the making of that gear was incroyable. (I don't comment much anymore, but I always click "like, and I still enjoy all your posts.)
I have to agree with you love watching the videos and the restoration work.
the color combination of black and red always looks great on this type of metal pieces. Very good video, quite entertaining.
Wow!!! How many hours did it take to make that pinion gear? So much hand filing!!!
Great job!!!
Just a heads up (machinist here) the jaws on the lathe chuck can be turned to handle larger pieces, back them all out, the jaws should be numbered, turn them around and start at "1" once you catch the first thread insert jaw "2" then "3",make sure you insert all of them on the first rotation or your jaws will be off.
Stopped to comment on the jaws, after watching the rest I have to admit, making that gear was impressive, hopefully one day soon you will run across a nice milling machine (heavy duty), indexing heads are a little expensive but well worth it for cutting gears.
Thank you Scott !
I love your restorations, it's always great to see hand tools used as much as possible. And with your lathe, I believe the teeth for the chuck can be flipped around to hold bigger pieces.
I don’t think so as the teeth on the back of the jaws are curved so they can engage with the scroll. My lathe has two sets of jaws that look identical except for the teeth on the back, they curve in opposite directions on each set for just this purpose. I hope this helps. Cheers Stuart 🇦🇺
Again another great piece of work. I really love what you do.

But you should definitely get a wrench from "Hand Tool Rescue". The projects that you make deserve a wrench that suits them. 😜
I have been a subscriber for a few years and seen you restore many beautiful and not so beautiful pieces. But making the pinion was in another league entirely. Incroyable!
Point 1: Your restoration skills are legendary.
Point 2: Your fabrication skills are legendary.
Point 3: Avril is a pretty kitty. What a beautiful coat she has!
She look like angry
@@aoquanghuy3676 She is a demanding supervisor.
Just a heads up, the jaws on your lathe can be turned around. Make sure to replace them in the same position (jaws should be marked by factory). Concentricity may vary.
I came here to say this. Your lathe CAN handle that big stock! Just flip the jaws. You can see how they are stepped and have grooves/teeth on the "outside"...
I don't care what anyone says, I think your channel is the best restoration channel on UA-cam
Be careful when using oak in contact with food, the tannic acids in it can ruin flavours. Beech wood (like the original) is safe, as well as most woods from edible fruit trees (cherry, pear, ...). Another awesome restoration btw, love your channel!
This is why I read comments. I didn't know that about oak. Thanks for adding to my knowledge.
@@tw634 Also, not all anti-rust protective coatings are food-safe.
@@StrangerHappened That is why doing it the old fashioned blacksmith way is better than the chemical methods.
You're correct but in that case i'd like to think that the oak is not in contact long enough with the food to have an actual impact on the taste, and plus, those guys are French, they are particular about stuff like that :)
I know absolutely nothing about restoration processes, woodworking, etc… but this is mind blowing phenomenal work. Totally mesmerized and I learn alot! Please continue! 💜🙌
Wow on that gear as well. So much work. Please don’t stop making new videos. They are truly worth the wait each time.
It is always a pleasure to see experienced hands reclaim a piece or device back to functionality, and beautifully so. The manufacture of a missing part to exact specifications is amazing.
Thanks
Un canon à saucisse, Câlice! Bravo!
I have never seen anyone make a new gear before! Restoration videos are often what I watch when I can't sleep. I find them fascinating but I'm sensitive to certain sounds so these are always perfect to watch when I don't want to wake the husband. Thanks for keeping this insomniac entertained. Side note: I think this is a grandfather/son duo, just guessing from the hands seen
Pinion job without a dividing head? Oh my! You are fearless.
another excellent restoration and video production....and AVRIL! you guys are the best...
What an amazing job you did. Creating that piece for it was something I've never seen before. I used to work in a machine shop, and I love all the equipment you have. It's fascinating to watch. Thank you for sharing.
I rly love seeing you using it after restoring it
Wow ! Making a gear ? Just excellent!
Amazing as Always! Thank you!
☮️🌼🐝safe 🖖🏼
Beautiful restoration as always, but I am curious. Why wasn't the wooden part of the inner press not wax or lacquer sealed?
Quel travail magnifique !! 👍😉
I respect everyone who were involved in this , Seriously the best piece that I' ve ever seen on UA-cam ,HATS OFF TO WELL ALL ! LOVE YOUR VIDEOS !!!!😌😌
Watching these makes me happy
You never cease to amaze with your restorations. Beautifully restored.
You are knowledgeable about metal work and making screws but that gear was awesome. Amazing!!! Have a great day
It’s so impressive the time you take to get things just right. It surely pays off in the end with a beautiful piece!! Amazing
I have never seen someone make a handmade gear or make a screw from scratch. Definitely one of my favorite videos of yours. 10 out of 10
From the condition of your hands I can tell how much you love your profession... 👍
Holy moly when i look what You made a ⚙ its amazing job!!!
My favorite activity as a kid was making sausages with a stuffer just like this one. It was a once a year affair when the Christmas pig was slaughtered. That all ended in 1970 when Castro abolished Christmas in Cuba and made it punishable to even put up a Christmas tree. Christmas was only reinstated in 1998 after Pope John Paul ll visited Cuba. I doubt this tradition was ever picked up again, but it was a lot of fun doing it as a kid while the entire family had its own tasks to make a fantastic Christmas eve dinner.
I thoroughly enjoyed this video so, thanks a million!
I love Avril and would love an entire video of Avril please! 😺
Excelente!
Felicitaciones!
The hacksaw trick on the lathe tool mount is a good one. Props to that.

Wow. You just...made a gear. Just like that. Very cool
Damn! That is some next level of patience and skill... making a gear with a file!!!
I couldn't help but hear the late Jackie Davis's version of "Mañana" on the mighty Hammond organ playing through my head, thinking of Kramer and Newman and their sausage stuffing (mis)adventures on Seinfeld as I watched this video; especially at the end. 😀 That was was impressive handwork on recreating the missing pinion gear, and a nice restoration throughout.
Changez rien …..

Always on top 👍🤟👍🤟👍🤟
You are one incredibly gifted man. I love your channel. And I love Your kitty.
I don't think anything you do is easy. You're a smart and resourceful person and I admire your skills. I'm just glad I can witness a rebirth of a long neglected appliance through your efforts and see it function again. Cheers.
I love all your restoration work. Thanks
As an engineer who spent the majority of my working life in the power transmission industry I was very impressed with your pinion making skills. Very good restoration.
I have a neighborhood stray that looks alot like Arvil! We have been feeding him for maybe years and earlier today he let me pet him without hissing at me or backing away for the first time!!
Awesome job you did restoring the sausage filler. Even more awesome is making a new gear for it.
Excellent restoration and it looks new again and ready to be used for years to come!!
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Avril checking on you.😁
Got to mention the pinion gear! Awesome!
Love the black gloss finish😮😱🐨🇦🇺🦘
Wow great work👏 This deserves an Oscar-weiner😉
Thank you :-)
Making that gear by hand is impressive. Wow.
Sir,the handwork you put into making that gear is impressive as hell!👍👍👍
As a amateur metal restoration guy I’m telling you nothing is more satisfying as when the rivet finally pops out.
He's a master. The man that has every tool imaginable. Great work
now here's an device that I haven't seen and operated in a long time and thank you for giving me those wonderful memories. :)
Classic old piece of years gone by,impressive workmanship as always, keep doing what your doing 👍👍👍😎😎😎
It's so fun to see old machines brought back to life like this!
Very nice job❤️❤️👍
Parabéns ! Excelente restauração. < Brazil >
No dividing head or mill required, bravo!
Merci !
Amazing that you made that pinion by hand! Great job.
Great video. I'm a butcher and love sausage filler
I will not become a restorer but I finally have two big cats like AVRIL 😺😸
Very impressive work!
Excellent restoration 👍👍👍 . Thank you for sharing. Take care of yourselves, be safe, and healthy 🇨🇦
Watching you make a new screw just blew my mind! This was so fascinating!
Respect man! When I saw you making your own gears, I have to to give you props.
I love how you adapted when faced with the challenge of making a gear without the "proper" equipment!
Sooooooo beautiful.
The dedication given to the sprocket has made the video reach the level of prodigious.
Congartulations!
What made this go from a good restoration to a great one is a matter of a pinion.

Good job 👍
awesome as always, 14:00 the work on this part is praiseworthy
Yes! Trying the item after restoring it is the best ending of a video. Me gusta!
Thank you for the great video! Keep up the good work 👍👍👍 PS: What a awesome job on that gear!!!
Wow, handmaking the pinion is awesome !!!
Garoto! Você fez até, a roda dentada! Fabuloso!😍😍😍😍😍
For the first time in a while, I actually knew what you was working on. My parents had one of those.
Watching you make the gear was pure art sir.
You know, with as many of these that I watch, I shouldn't be as in awe as I am watching screws and such being made from scratch from random hunks of metal, yet here we are.
Did you eat the sausage? lol are you using food grade paints and coatings for these projects? and when you brush zinc coated food bearing surfaces are you replacing the zinc? these are very important questions!!! :)
That lathe work was fantastic!
Outstanding work
That's the first time I've ever seen a gear made like that and it looked great.
respect for the craftsmanship
Lovely work, especially make the gear. I never would have thought of doing it that way.
Great video sharing 👍
Seu trabalho é magnífico! I loved! You're great! Congrats!!!! 💖💖💖💖💖💖
Absolutely love your vids. As some want to show parts over n over. You show the restoration n the usage of it. Thanks.
Excelente… Felicitaciones!
