Done as a tribute to Stan Lee, following his recent passing. What a better way to pay him tribute than by hearing him in his very first video game cameo?
In this video, I show most of what the game has to offer in a single playthrough that I skip in speedruns otherwise (admittedly, some of them I observed for the very first time myself). Altough, I did not completely dumb down my gameplay, I used SOME speed tech, as long as it is either accessible to newcomers or cool to watch.
Ben Reilly, Scarlet Spider and Symbiote costumes are simply unlocked throughout the story. 2099 costume is unlocked by collecting all comics. Captain Universe costume is unlocked by completing the story on hard mode, rendering completely the need to unlock any other costume.
The rest of the costumes cannot be unlocked in a single playthrough. Unlimited costume is unlocked by replaying the story for a second time (you must choose "Continue" in the main menu). Peter Parker and Quick-Change costumes are unlocked by completing specific challenges in the Training section. Amazing Bag-Man costume can only be unlocked via a cheat code ("AMZBGMAN" for PS version, "KICK ME" for PC/Dreamcast versions, unavailable in the N64 version).
This playthrough made me appreciate the game more than ever. Controls show their age, due to the camera mainly, though they are far from terrible. On the other hand, the level design is just fantastic. I always find myself mixing different actions without feeling overwhelmed on one side or becoming bored on the other. Not to mention the many nods and references to other Marvel and Neversoft properties. "Subway" sucks no matter what, but that's acceptable. In the end, the game is still very fun to play, both casually and speedrunning-wise. I easily recommend it to anyone, as long as you can tolerate the aging controls.
The PC and Dreamcast versions provide enhanced graphics over the PS1 and N64 versions, the PC version in particular has little to no loading times. However, getting it to run properly on modern systems is quite the task. Even then, you might still stumble upon a game crash or glitched graphics here and there, which was a problem even on systems of the time. Still, I recommend either the PC or DC versions if you can play those.
Stan Lee provided one of his finer cameos in his career by narrating the game's plot with his legendary voice. This was the first time I was exposed to him as a kid. I liked this voice even when I couldn't understand a single word in English.
Stan lived a great life to its fullest. While he may be gone, no doubt his legacy will stay strong forever.

I saw a few comments asking how to run the game properly on modern machines. The 2 most common issues I assume, are that the game runs too fast (since the game lacks frame cap) and that the game simply crashes upon entering a stage.
Assuming you already found the game, here are some tools that should help you:
- Use either DxWnd ( sourceforge.net/projects/dxwnd/ ) or D3DWindower ( community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/733-d3dwindower-english/ ) to force the game in windowed mode. Either program should also solve the crashing issue.
- If the game runs too fast, DxWnd has a frame limiter. Right click on the game>Modify>Timing>Check "Limit" under "Frame perSecond" and change the number to 30 or 25, depending on wether or not you care about the chase sequence in "Catch Venom". - Alternatively, Set the resolution higher than the game's, but keep the same aspect ratio (you can find aspect ratio calculators online). Depending on what resolution you set, the game will have different FPS, so play around with it and see what works best for you.
- Fraps ( www.fraps.com/download.php ) helps to stabilize the framerate of this game. Not needed for the first method.
If you don't like the frame count mark, you can move to the FPS tab and choose "Hide overlay".
Another common issue is that the game softlocks after a few seconds of playing. It's difficult to explain why this occurs, but it has something to do with how audio works in this game. Setting the game to run in compatibility mode of older version of Windows should solve this. I personally choose Win XP SP2.

In the lastest version of DxWnd, I can't find the timing tab so I can't find a way to limit fps in old games

This game was fucking revolutionary back in the days. The cool thing is that it was mostly based on 90's Spider-Man TV show . The story, combat system, graphics,... Everything was perfect about this game back then.

This game is one of the most memorable gifts my step dad ever got for me as a kid. So nostalgic watching this. He even got me the PC version, and not the PS1 version. This version looks so much nicer!
PS1 and Dreamcast versions are the best. PC had way too many bugs and other problems.

35:25 That's an unsolved bug from the PC version on modern systems that causes Spider-Man to run to the right and crawl up the wall instead of chasing Venon, one must resume chase immediately or Venon escapes.
If you can force the game to run at 25FPS, the cutscene plays as intended. For example: watch?v=o2IHoIwQ9e4 at 9:45
I've also seen some console playthroughs with the glitch.

My version had the problem of jumping right out automatically! i played that like a million times and kind of pressed everything to get out of that stupid bug

Ah this brings back memories. The voice acting wasn't localized and my English was really bad back then, so I never really understood the plot or the puns or basically anything.
And I remember Spiderman always falling down at the end of the venom chase over and over again. Frame rate reasons I assume. I had to use cheats to get any further. I believe this game also had some kind of silly mode cheat.
Yeah, it had a what if mode. Venom chase was hard but not impossible.

No. Well watch them and u realize you played the MOVIES of 1 and 2 and 3. And gaming isnt only life. Plus respect other opinions. I wouldnt said that if u wouldnt blamed for PS2 version is better
1st Spiderman game I ever played. I was probably around 5 yrs old at the time, but seeing/hearing all of this instantly brings me back to how I felt in those moments. Spiderman 2 drops next month and its crazy to see how far gaming has come. 25 yrs old now and am so grateful I got to see it all unfold before my eyes 🤟🏼 Vr Spiderman in another 20 yrs gonna hit different!!

Man, I remember playing this game as a kid. My copy of the game's disc was scratched up, so the game would always freeze around the Scorpion fight. Instead of getting a new disc though, I just replayed the first bits of the game over and over again. Nice to finally see what's beyond the bank heist.

I remember I had this game in Colombia and I only speak Spanish in that time so I couldn’t understand anything and couldn’t even pass the first level but as a child back then I didn’t care and enjoyed the game anyways 😂
25:16 ahh my infamous childhood glitch. This with the one at the first venom level.
It took me and my brother months to get past this one glitch. What we used to do was let go of our webswing and as we were falling down we would regain control and then press swing. The Venom level glitch was a lot harder to do. Took us like a thousand tries to finally get Spiderman to webswing out of the building.
