Great video! Just bought a 2025 S in midnight black with a white roof and I love it. I had a 2008 MINI S and have missed it since I traded it in. As far as the tail lights, I also love them. I'm getting use to not having the exhaust tips out of the back, two less things to have to scrub to keep clean. All in all, it goes along with the minimalistic approach. Happy to be back in the MINI family!

Lovely presentation and thank you for this!
I bought a cooper C in jcw trim a few days ago to replace my everyday R53 for 21 years. I had for a while an F56 but this....this....is fantastic.
I think for me the C is better choise for lots of reason ( price, taxes, insurance, range etc) such as is quick enough ( similar not saying faster than my previous S ) an the suspension and the DCT is marvelous!!!
I am a fan of the new design inside and outside and I won't be fair enough. I have to say that in a six day time I have it ( in brg/white) received only enthusiastic comments.
I just love it. I have the same feeling as the first day of my R53. The design details are to the point, it's not shouting with pointless elements. I. Just. Love. Him. ❤
Thanks again for your to the point review!!!

Thank you for watching and taking the time to let me know about your new MINI. I’m so pleased to hear that you enjoyed both the review and your car! I think, retrospectively, I should have perhaps reviewed the C as I think it could be the pick of the range. Many people I know who have driven it have said how sweet a drive it is, so perhaps that’s a review for the future.
Anyway, thanks again for your support and positive comments. Very much appreciated.

Coming out of the Cooper S Convertible Resolute Edition with a real pokey boot and a stretch to put bags in this hatchback version is fantastic. Didn’t bother with the additional tech beyond Level 1. Don’t need the huge key using the ‘smart key’ carried in your wallet is sufficient. It’s a great car and does everything that it needs to do.

The F66 Mini is stunning, I like the whole design, even the rear lights, they give the car a slight rally car look but are still classy looking. I am so glad they continued with the combustion engine. As for the the door handles, they are perfect, they feel more expensive to the touch. AC Schnitzer has just brought out centre exhausts with a rear diffuser, so that is the exhaust problem sorted. 😎

Excellent comprehensive review. I have recently ordered a new Mini Cooper S Sport, Mini #8. I have had five Coopers and two Cooper S’s, the latest being the Sport model. I do have a few issues with the exterior styling on the new car however, no twin exhausts or fake bonnet scoop, which to be honest when you drive the car you can’t see them anyway. Aren’t they really just ‘look at me’ features? I prefer to think of the new styling as a ‘wolf in sheep’s clothing.’ Also the rear lights might take a little bit of getting used to. The interior is the feature that intrigues me most. I just hope that as a 73 year old I can master the technology that is available. Hmmm!

    I’ve got a legend grey cooper s 2.0 on order and can’t wait ( it’s a few weeks away)
Learned to drive in a classic mini and have owned a 2005 cooper s which I loved
I think the car looks so much better than it’s rivals but must admit I’m disappointed the main features of a cooper s are missing with the bonnet scoop missing and exhausts hidden shame
    But very excited for it

Thanks, Brian, for a very thorough and enjoyable review of the F66 MINI Cooper S.
I've driven 2,500 miles (thus far) in my new F66 Cooper C and, previously, I drove 130,000 miles in two F56 Cooper models.
The new car, in my considered opinion, is a huge step forward in terms of NVH & comfort - but, like you, I did have Run-Flat tyres on both of my F56 models.
So, to start, I really like the F66 steering-wheel… and the new front & rear lights. (The lights have changed at both ends - park the F66 next to the F56 and you'll be surprised to see how much the two models differ at the front).
Also, for the numpties in your comments (one says the car doesn't have enough new technology, another that the Union flag lights will return…🙄), your review shows some of the new tech features - although your Level 3 test car has many 'driving assist' functions that you didn't cover (such a radar cruise control that will bring you to a complete stop in traffic - and then resume as the traffic moves). The F66 can also keep you in lane, and (if enabled) will slow down automatically for roundabouts etc.
You mentioned auto-parking, which I don't use, but I do let my car steer itself out of my garage - and then it turns and parks on my drive! (It remembers the actions that you made before parking… and it then repeats these in reverse order).
The rear lights can still show a Union flag design (one of 3 available options)… but you didn't show the welcome/goodbye animations or the 'puddle-lamp' projections.
Actually, it's a shame that you didn't include some night-time driving, Brian, as the F66 has incredible adaptive LED headlights - the best on any car I've driven to date… including some current generation Mercs, BMWs etc.
Also, the interior ambient lighting is superb - but, please note, lights do not appears on the dash 'through the material'… they are projected from each side of the MIU (OLED Screen housing) - and they change with the chosen 'Experience' mode.
Given that the F66 is largely the same as an F56 (a 10-year old model) - I think that MINI has done an incredible job.
I chose the 'Exclusive' trim - which I much prefer to the 'Sport' you tested. I don't have any fake engine noise and, I'm told, the Sport has firmer suspension. My car rides very serenely on the motorway (on 17” wheels) - but it still handles like a MINI on the country roads!
I honestly could not ask for anything more… my car is perfect for me - and I average over 50mpg.
BTW: the MINI app needs to be shown in your next video, as it is excellent. (So much, Mr. Numpty, for not having enough tech! 😂).
Not only do you get in-depth data about every journey, (helpful for me as I need to separate business use from pleasure), the app also confirms where the car is located - and its status (locked, doors, windows & roof closed etc.). You can also flash the lights (remotely) in a dark car park and heat/cool the interior, before you get back to the car… plus I plan my upcoming journeys on the app - and send them to the car in advance.
Whether your viewers have driven a previous model, or not, they should book a test drive in the 3 or 5 door Cooper (and the convertible is coming soon). I've also driven over 100-miles in the new petrol Countryman… and that's an excellent car too. (A BWM X1 in MINI form).
Keep up the good work. TTFN

Anyway, thanks again for your support and enjoy your car (which is sounds like you are!!)

I’ve had a couple more recent Minis, a Cooper S and a John Cooper Works and have really liked both of them. Will probably get one of these too as they look great. Love the increase in power and removal of the fake bonnet scoop. Not such a fan of the hidden exhaust, tails lights the removal of the gear selector or the toggle start as the new system looks a little cheap.

Loving my new Cooper S EV. She is a bit jiggly at slow speed & some of the safety features are a little intrusive, but she is a hoot to drive, especially in Go Kart mode. Just turn off the cabin sound. It gets quite tiresome quite quickly. And she is properly pretty.

13:17 designers were looking to simplify the design yet added a triangle shape that historically has never been there. The cutout for the hatch is not simple looking Because of the triangle, it has that ugly notch. The black bar is also unappealing. Would be nicer color matched to the body. Also think the wheel arches look nicer color matched. Didn’t make sense to have the black plastic in the petrol version. They removed the side scuttles, manual, hood scoop, and hid the exhaust to make them look identical but leave the wheel arches black. Let’s hope they bring back designers that are passionate about MINI

Biggest mistake are triangular rear lights. Mini is known for round shapes. No hards lines. Triangles just don’t work in my opinion. Disappointed about dropping manuals shortly after announcing a manual driving school. Sad to see center mounted exhaust gone. Everything else is great. Hoping mini would be the affordable 911. 8:19 the door handles are definitely the biggest giveaway of which motored version it is, imo. I’ve been a mini fan since early aughts/before I could drive, but one thing that bothers me is how much red is all over the place when you go S and especially JCW. Another thing that bothers me is building the all new model in (and for?) China. The *main* thing that bothers me, tho, is *total unavailability of ventilated seats* (same goes for Countryman). May not seem essential in Munich or Dundee, but this is sold (in droves) in FL and AZ! Glad YT tossed your channel my way. 🗽🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

There's unlikely any power difference between the outgoing F5x series and the new F6x series. The previous generation was underrated from factory at 189hp but produced 215hp when tested on dyno. This was likely done for insurance premium reasons as MINI attempted to not have their top selling model defined as a "sports" car.

  • @Anzle9

Do miss them making diesel models 😢 I know the minis not supposed to be a diesel platform but the one d cooper d and cooper sd I love them and getting rid of the manual is a let down by far the biggest I didn’t like the new design at first it’s grown on me add a couple of manual buttons back on the overhead on the roof and bring back a manual gearbox and I am sold. I was concerned at first because I genuinely thought there was no speedometer behind the steering wheel however that projected display has me jumping like a kid. I just feel they need to add a few things to retain identity of its concept but unlike some I do like those new back lights some will say oh no looks like a Suzuki my first thought was wow it looks modern and sporty. Edit no don’t like the flush door handles personally and don’t like lack of wheel arch trim problem with the new one especially electric I like yes simplification minis design language to me have always seemed aimed at simplicity but now just lack of buttons no manual option no visible exhaust I’m sorry but it’s stupidly becoming a standard to hide exhaust no idea why does not change the emissions output no design laws on it like some will say

Thanks for your review. My wife has recently taken delivery of the same model and spec as the one tested. It was not originally a car we had been looking for. I had been looking at various electric BMW's, and there was a Mini dealership attached, and that sparked her interest. I would have been drawn towards the electric version except for a number of issues. I actually prefer the styling of the ICE version, although I kind of agree with your bonnet comments. But the main reason was price. The equivalent electric model was 7k more expensive. We currently charge our other EV on very cheap overnight electric, but even if it were free, I would have to cover over 45k miles or more to reach break even point on cost, and we never keep cars that long. In addition I suspect, based on recent observations, the ICE car is likely to have better residual and resale value than the EV, and the 2L has a top end of 150mph, which makes a 70mph motorway run fairly leisurely, whereas the EV has more like 100mph limit and is likely to start burning through range at motorway speeds. I also expect the ICE car will have better insurance costs, from experience. The tech is great, but almost too much - use what you need or find useful, and turn other stuff off. I'm actually quite impressed overall, not having had a Mini previously, and that is not because I never liked them, but more because until they became huge, I couldn't get my 6'4 frame inside. I hope it continues to impress.

Taking away the signature fake air scoop and twin pipes and only Auto box as a MINI fan is disappointing and chipping away it’s character as a S or Works, we have two currently in the drive both factory ordered and five in all we have had. The new Electric looks fine to me in sports guise but at £35-43k is just ridiculous. The petrol is just a updated F56 engine with a new look. We now have our cars longer than we have even owned because I wouldn’t buy another petrol probably going electric now. Could be the the new Renault 5 that looks great.
MINI has become a confused mess. Maybe by 2027 when Oxford makes the EV version. Love the Legend grey all the same. My F56 gets 34mpg tootling along in the city doing small journeys but I just did Glasgow to Duxford return and the computers says 58 mpg and that’s sitting 80% probably motorway speed. So if in real terms if that is 50 mpg plus I’m happy with. Don’t know what seven gear box would do it would be interesting.
Your basically buying a car that keeps Oxford ticking over using its old power unit from the F56 with slightly more power till it retools for full electric only. £36k as tested 😮😢 I’d take that car in six months for £28k with 1500 miles on it or better still the V3 Cooper C version with the same look and spec what price that might be nearly new. car depreciation has got scary too with the high prices.

I have a 2021 jcw and love it. All the toggle switches and buttons I love. They have went from what they had in the 60's and produced it in 2024 one big central screen. I don't want to be looking away from the road at a screen where as what I have now I can switch any switch without looking away from the road. And that back end oh! my..Another thing in the configurator for the jcw you cannot configure the car without bonnet stripes. Why would i want to pay for stripes I don't want it says free but we all know they arn't. and no heated screen . Great review, Brian.
They sabotaged the Rover 75 launch by announcing they were putting the company up for sale. I worked for a supplier to Rover at the time, the guys told me that BMW insisted the 75 had its fog lights lower on the front so they could not make it lower to optimise the handling because it was too much of a challenge to the 3 series.
To me, the stole the Mini and left the rest to rot.
Yes, the management after that completely cocked it up, but I always felt that BMW wanted Mini and Land Rover and couldn't care less about the rest.
I like this mini, its clear they put the effort in to the electric.
I hate the rear styling, maybe its better in other colours.
"Charismatic Simplicity" is just marketing bull...
You're right, they shouldn't have hidden the exhaust
    The rest is fine, externally
Like the interior, agree about the steering wheel
    I like it overall
There are very few competitors, Abarth, but its been out too long, I had 4 and loved them all, but its too many generations behind.

As the joke goes, Britain won the War & lost the peace, it was the British who killed British Leyland, BMW were lucky to survive them (they abandoned them when they realized it would take several manufacturing cycles to make them competitive) but they did salvage Mini, Range Rover, Rolls & Bentley.
