When we came back from Vietnam we wore our uniforms in the airport, people would go out of their way to not look at you. They would take their children and move to the other side. While sitting waiting to board people would do anything not to have to sit next to you. Many times the planes were not full so people would sit else where on the plane, no seat assignment. Some of the younger crowd as they walked by might ask how many babies you killed. If you went into the airport lounge you general drank alone. One thing folks have to learn back then military men and women go where they are told to go and fight whom they are told to fight. I watch these videos today and it makes me proud to see our country no longer treats the military as they did in the 60’s and 70’s. And yet with all that we held our heads up and were proud of who we were and what we stood for The United States of America.

My grandpa was in the Vietnam war. He told us about how horribly people treated them. How they had to be taken a different way when getting off the planes because people would spit at them or threaten them. There was situations where they’d have to change clothes so people wouldn’t give them a hard time. I’ve heard a lot of stories from him and it’s horrible how people treated them.

@ Did your grandpa ever display his ribbons? If not your family should get together , build a shadow box for them and put them out for everyone to see. Both my daughters didn’t even know I went to Vietnam until many years later I happen to mention it. They both stopped, looked at me saying you never told us about that, explains a lot. They are very proud of me. Today my ribbons are displayed with my dog tags in a shadow box in our living room.

@@rodfenske6255 I don’t think so. We’ve never thought of doing something like that but that’d be nice. I know my grandpa doesn’t talk about war much because of the things he’s seen and experienced. But I’ll definitely let my family know about doing this!

@@mikereginald497I wasn’t in the Navy, I was in the Marine Corps, but yes a Navy Pilot is a Sailor. At least he should consider him/herself one. I heard a long time ago that it would be insulting to the Secretary of the Navy, Army, and Air Force to call them Sailor, Soldier, Airmen, respectively. But it would not be an insult to the Commandant of the Marine Corps to be called a Marine, that pretty much tells the story.

    Here is the CORRECT terminology.
    USE IT!!!
    Soldier: United States Army.
    Sailor: United States Navy.
    Airman: United States Air Force.
    Marine: United States Marine Corps.
Coast Guardsman: United States Coast Guard.
As of yet, I have not heard of one for the Space Force. If there is, please, let me know.
