I am from Bangalore, my wife is from Delhi, and living in Bangalore, I learned to speak in Hindi when I lived in Delhi, I ask her to learn kannada when we are planning to live our rest of the life in Bangalore. If she learns kannada it will be easy for her to get around.

North Indians should learn languages like Tamil, Kannada, Telugu to expand thier job opportunities.
The problem with applying 3 language formula in non southern states is that the south doesn't have a common language for all 4 of its states which people can learn. Also apart from the Delhi region most northern areas have their own distinct language be it awadhi , bhojpuri , marwari, bundeli, etc. Most of them are not scheduled by constitution due to lack of significant literature in those languages. So its not like northern states always spoke hindi. They learn hindi with their own spoken mother tongue which is distinct from hindi. So its not true that north indians don't speak 3 languages on account of not having a officially recognized/ scheduled non hindi mother. They do , they just don't learn them at school.
Also an amicable solution is for south to have a common language amongst themselves which they all understand so that rest of the states, only have to learn that language. Because forcing people to learn 4 more languages is not possible, if everyone gets too emotional about their language then everyone will have to learn all 22 scheduled states.
Or if nothing is working, which I'm sure will happen, it being india. Then let English prevail over all. We indians deserve to have a non indian language as lingua franca as we cannot even agree over a common language.
Also we should not blame the then central government they could have thought by this logic - since every state has a language based on the mojority spoken language then why can't india's national language also be its majority spoken language ie : hindi.

Ill tell you the reason?. On new years eve me and my friends went to outdoor party with tents and campfire. Me and my friends went way ahead to fireplace and sat close at very safe distance. Then at the last moment these gangs of delhi people came, put chairs in front of us and started scream delhi walho ek baar awaaj shuru karo something. I was okay with that but not okay with them covering my view and occupying infront of us after coming late. Then i started to speak them in hindi at first and then i started in english it was easy for me. Then he was like first hindi me bath kar, pehle hindi dang se seekho phir bath kar vo hamari rashtra basha hai. I wonder if they all have this in thier mind.

It's not mandatory to learn local language, but again it's not mandatory for locals to learn Hindi. Let them speak their language and understand other languages. In the State of Karnataka, Kannada is THE language which we nourish and breathe. That is our identity. Period. Please don't waste time trying to convince about Hindi language. In North, you can do what you want but leave us in peace. If you want to work in Karnataka it becomes obligatory on your part to learn Kannada otherwise look for a job in Hindi speaking belt. It is that simple.

It's not one section of people having 3 language system. I am from Odisha, stayed in Kolkata for close to two decades. Both the states have 3 language system in school. I speak 4 Indian languages and I don't mind. But I hate this ban hindi but still continue with the foreign language English. Come on if IT people from other states leave, the economy will crash remember Covid. If we write any one south language on a board the other 3 state's people won't be able to read it but outside south educated people can mostly read Hindi even if not fluent enough. So they can't write in all 4 languages but you guys can write one hindi language.
Hindi is not the 1 language of most of the people from the northern part of india, nobody speaks hindi perfectly here bcz it's not there mother tongue but we try to come to a comment ground that we have a bit in common, I am a bengoli and my friend is bihari, but we use Assamese language to communicate bcz we are born and brought up here so we know the language quite well but its not our mother tongue but still a Assamese person will speak Assamese more better then us bcz its his mother tongue and our hindi too is not so perfect but we can't expect sometime who recently came or travelling to our side of the country to be fluent in our local language or know our local properly the part of the country which they stay have a different language of there own. So when we communicate we communicate in hindi mostly as English is not known to everyone ( we communicate with broken Hindi) we make things work. Not just making drama. And hindi is a easy language to grab compared to most of the language. No one can learn a language fully after growing up it becomes more hard.And listen I had so many friends from southern part of india in College their English was much better then us but they didn't know hindi but we both tried our best I talked with him in English most of the time and he sometimes sayed few words in hindi we never complained. And to the person in the interview 22 language in the eighth schedule, do you really think it is possible to learn? Like the English is a common language, so same with hindi ( mass language) as its easier to develop compared to others. A person staying in Karnataka for say 3/4 years or less he will not be able to pick up the language like the person who is born there he might gradually learn but never can learn fully. So stop this division bullish and I used person from southern part of india and northern part of india bcz the southindian / northindian bullshit is going to destroy our country. And the irony English is a foreign language but no problem to that but keep fighting between our own language. Wanted to say so many things more but leave it and to the uncle and aunties you are the main reason for the division of our society you people are so moral less. We young generation have our own flaws but we never fight on topic of that divide our country. You are narrow minded and only forcefully want to put your agenda even if its wrong. Why we should learn three languages? people in northern part of india knowns more then 4/5 language but mostly they use there mother tongue and and hindi as its widely known so do your research properly

In Karnataka we want Kannada-English. Not Hindi where it has no own script as using Devanagari Lipi, and can't be National Language which born with Urdu by Arabs / Persians if I am not wrong. Kannada has its own history & furture if allowed to use as State Official Language by Govt. Also has its own script used for Koduva-Tulu-Konkani including Sanskrit being spoken as Mother Tangue in State itself but has no own lipi's to write. And English is very commonly used International Language to communicate with other States & Foreign Countries too, as it didn't killed our State Languages, instead helped to learn.
Bangalore has people from tamil nadu, kerala, Andhrapradesh etc also.. So it is not just hindi people who come there.. So why not instructions in those languages judt like the anchor said delhi has all language speaking people in delhi and the metro has only hindi and English written over there.. Hindi imposition promoters keep shouting without giving a proper justification and those guys who come to any of the south states expect the south indians to speak in hindi

That's the issue . Don't worry politicians , the day will come when you will move to some other states for work and then you will learn all 20 languages in India. You are not going out of your state because in present you have majority of Jobs but time will come . Don't worry, then you learn 5 languages .

On a lighter note : if you have probelm with non kannadigas then why don't your shopkeepers , all business boycott Non kannadigas and stop selling then anything . Even stop selling water to non kannadigas ....if you do this I am sure all non kannadigas will stop coming to your state and at the same time people will leave to their state and this will help us indirectly, as their respective state government will find solution.

If there is an instruction to be written in South, the first priority should be given to regional, second to English but if still more space is there, definitely it should be written in Hindi !!! Ahh dude every spoke with south Indians? Most of my kannadiga frnds speak atleast 4 languages n some even 6. N a frnd of mine frm Pune whose father is here for the past 11 years in Bengaluru and cant speak kannada while our tamil n Malayalam frnds here starts to speak kannada in just a few months.

Even though I am a Bengali I can fluently speak Hindi and can understand and roughly speak Marathi, Punjabi, Odia, Assamese, bhojpuri , Maithili. You know why because all these languages have the same root. You can ask a tamilian to speak in Punjabi and I will see, in how many years he learns it. So don't judge.

Sauraseni and Bhojpuri are pure Indian languages like Telugu Kannada Konkani Malayalam Sanketi Tamil Assamese and others.
