I can listen to just the audio of this whole video and it takes me right back to 1996. Came with the "Killer Cuts" audio CD, and it felt like the coolest thing in the world to play this game's music as a kid..........at home, or at friends houses in the 90s. The intro still gives goosebumps. Love Rare's music.....you can hear similarities in music through KI, Donkey Kong Country, 007 and Perfect Dark
Man this intro really takes me back to sweet moments in my childhood. 😂 I remember when I finally beat this game on ultra hard, man it was tough doing it at that level but I did it! Also the ultimate combos! I love how they just go straight into it. No build up or anything. Mann! It's extremely good to hear this theme again! Classic childhood memories replay on Super Nintendo! I wish I could've kept the music CD from the game purchase back then! Killer Instinct is my favorite fighting game series ever! 🥳🎉🙌✨❤️🎮🕹️
Alright, so it's presentation can't hold a candle to the arcade version (hmm... duh?), but it still plays phenomenally, and keeps just about all of the play elements intact from the arcade version. This was quite the achievement - how much did they have to compress stuff to fit this into a 4MB cart, and how did they do it with virtually no load time?! (*glares at SFA2*)
+NintendoComplete It's sad really that KI didn't come out on the Nintendo 64 like the arcade version said it was going to. Maybe Nintendo and Rare didn't think the N64 was going to emulate the arcade version as well as they had originally thought. Oh, well. It would had been a killer launch title (almost) at the level of Super Mario 64.
+Randy Dubin It wouldn't really be a surprise, since that happened with Midway with Cruisin' USA. Apparently the n64's hardware was weaker than the arcade's by a fair margin :/
Is it only 4 MB? I think is more, as ST 2 16MB, ST2 turbo 20 MB, super STF 2 32MB, and STF 2 Alpha 48 MB, probably is way more than 4 MB, in 1995 most games were over 8MB
atroise No, 4 megabytes is equal to 32 megabits. The meg count on the 8 and 16 bit games was always in megabits, so divide it by 8 and that's how much room a rom of it would take up on your hard drive. I'm pretty sure that SFA2 used 32 megs, I don't believe any official NA releases went bigger than that. A few Japanese ones did though.
As to the question of why this game didn't come out on the N64, the N64's release was delayed until 1996 IIRC. With the game constanly advertising "Coming to your home in 1995", Rare probably felt they had to keep that promise.
The sounds of each character are forever ENCRUSTED on my mind, how is that possible? 😂 My favorites were Jago (which for a long time I though was Ninja Gaiden somehow), Fulgore, the Dinosaur, the Skeleton, the boxer and the Werewulf which had the best sound effects ever lmao. So recognizable.
I got my parent's actual cartridge of this. Unfortunately, their original SNES died years ago, but I saw a second-party NES/SNES/SFC online for around $40 and ordered it. I expect to play it again, bringing back life to a game that's remained dormant for nearly 25 years.
Am I weird for saying this is better than the arcade version? I think the soundtrack is better,I also think the effect when falling off stages is better.
The opening of this game pumped me up so much back then lol. OH then when i executed an ultra by accident and didn't know wtf was going on. good times.
