    In addition to great audio and 3D printing content, the videography, editing and audio quality of this video is fantastic. The transitions from video to rendering/animation, beautiful. Impedance matching. These drivers are so small, the more you can port load the driver, the more it can achieve. 6th orders, T-lines are very capable, I'd like to see what a horn in this form factor could achieve, though I imagine it'd be a nightmare to fit into the build plane of a 3D printer. Folds galore.

    These videos are really unique and interesting because they 1) demonstrate how 3d printing can be an enabling tool in the advancement of other hobbies and knowledge domains and 2) because Hexibase is capable and intelligent, but not a dedicated 3d printing expert. This gives a really interesting look into what is practically achievable for a hobbyist that wants to use a printer as a tool, and does not want to invest a ton of time into becoming a 3d printing specialist. For years now, almost every commercial printer has been capable of producing excellent parts in the hands of an expert or specialist, so the evaluation criteria needs to shift to what it is capable of producing in the hands of a competent generalist.

    So I went ahead and got me a printer after watching your v.2 build. It was my first print ever so there was a lot of trial and error. I got it done and opted for an internal bluetooth circuit amp and power supply input as the only externally visible connection (Pics on thingiverse). This is doable, thanks to you Sir! Just finished v.3 for my desktop setup the other day. Got a Dayton Audio DTA-2.1BT2 100W 2.1 for a dedicated sub channel and 2 satellites laying around AND THE SOUND IS AWESOME!!!! The dual subs don't even break a sweat, so I'm working on a remix now to take advantage of my 310x310 build volume. Will post on HexiBase Thingiverse remix page once complete with specs.

    I had one of these woofers, but no 3d printer. I wanted to give this design a try, so used just one woofer and built it off 1/2 inch MDF. Of course I wasn’t able to make the curves like hexibase.
    But the design delivers. It fills my 2 car garage with ample bass. 👍 to hexibase.

    You designs are incredibly impressive. Your little 3" sub builds get my 15" sub in my living room moving. None of my book shelf speakers nor headphones can reproduce the bass properly. For anyone who is watching, if you don't have a system capable of producing some seriously low frequency bass, you are totally missing out.

Sure, it doesn't have that much party factor, but for most applications it definately has enough of it. I'm gonna get more of these for the cars i have, this became an instant "go-to" solution for my needs. I'm definately going to experiment more with these.

    I'm pretty impressed! I rebuilt my printer and was looking for some large prints to try. Printed just about perfectly! I did have a bit of problem with the corners lifting, but that's my fault. It goes under my desk, so I'm not too worried! I also had to sand the tongue and groove to get them to fit together. Also my fault and I haven't fixed that yet! Also... Don't use 5 minute epoxy. It takes too long to cover the whole joint! I just barely made it.
    I pared it with a pair of the Back Horn sphere speakers with Tang Band W3-1364SA speakers I had laying around. Sound great! I'm powering them with a Fosi Audio BT30D-S with 50+50+100 watts.
    This speaker makes a great setup for my desk! You'd never believe this was 4 3" speakers! Sounds so much bigger! I can't believe the sub makes so much bass!!!
    Hexibase, you’re amazing! Thank you so much!!!

    I am really looking forward to see "something bigger". Like a 8 or 10" sub.
    Maybe you could also try to replace the flat top and bottom with a sheet of plywood or similar. This would greatly reduce the print time and also reduce the chance of warping. Or would the mix of materials have too much of a negative impact on the sound quality?

    • @natalietrinh381
      @natalietrinh381 4 роки тому +4

      I'm thinking of experimenting with this once I have access to a makerspace again. I'm also thinking that it may be possible to intentionally do a no bottom layer print at no infill and thin walls, then post print, mixing an epoxy/sand composite (or even mortar) in place of the infill. This would, in theory, reduce the amount of filiment used (let's admit it, it's not cheap), and replace it with a stiffer material with more mass. Might even arguably be easier to produce than just a straight up print.

    • @aaronb1138
      @aaronb1138 2 роки тому

      The design is really simple with all straight walls and small enough to just make from 1/2" MDF or plywood and perhaps some large dowel stock routered to shape if you want to replicate the port entries while adding a form of stiffer bracing.

I would love if you could get into the theory and practical design side of things. I've gone through almost every single WinISD youtube tutorial online but I don't think WinISD can support complicated enclosures like the ones you make (T-Line, etc). I'm looking at using a Tang Band W5-2053 and it's other slightly beefier cousin in a small car foot well enclosure. Whatever ported box I design seems to have a steep drop off after 40hz. I'm just a total newbie hobbyist and hope you can do a video on box design! Love the channel, thank you!

    I printed this in ABS because I have no PLA only 40kg of ABS laying around. I would not recommend anyone to print such a large print in ABS. Even letting it slowly cool down in my printer for 30 minutes it still warped, but it also still works like a champ. (by warped I'm not talking about it coming off the build plate but the walls and mostly the tongue and groove section) The thing sounds great. I'm using a Dayton Audio DTA-2.1BT2 to drive this along with the printed Full range book shelve speakers. I'm using this setup as my PC speakers and this was exactly what I was looking for. Some more low end for my PC. Fantastic.
    People asking about how to wire it up it all depends on the amplifier you are using to drive them. My amp is a 4-8 ohm load so running in parallel @ 2 ohm's wasn't going to work out too well and why I choose to run them in series @ 8 ohms.

    Error 6 means that your connection between heated print bed and controller is not sound. Err6 is actually an underrun/overrun indicator for the HPB. Stop using the printer check the cables and connections, this can fry the electronics completely. My HPB cable broke at 3000h and it took a lot of tinkering to get it to work again, Had to go completely Louis Rossmann on the mainboard. I can recommend my last video on my channel to that issue. Your enclosure is printing atm on my fixed SC-10.

      @dherrendoerfer 4 роки тому

      @@HexiBase Yeah, there's been a lot of discussion with LOTMAXX about the build plate, I still have the original with the fiberglass backing, several in fact. They do blister after a long time, but that can be remedied easily. This thing sticks like hell when it's new. I think your bad adhesion was partly due to the HPB failing and not holding the temperature correctly. My printer is in fact a review unit, one of the first printers sent through the official retail channels. It was all over the place before it was properly dialed in, now it's one of my workhorses for low resolution prints.

      @@HexiBase So my attempt at printing the enclosure with the original build plate on the SC-10 failed too. It worked and did stick, but at at some point it actually started pulling the sticker off the carrier plate. I tried to segment the top/bottom of the speaker into segment squares to take the pressure of the surface, but my software wouldn't let me.

    In terms of 3d printing, Thomas Sanlederer (? Spelling) and Teaching Tech are a must... Vital information! 3d Printer Nerd is entertaining. Stephan's CNC Kitchen is also a must.

    Awesome video and content in general! 👍 It was recommended because I recently got the Lotmaxx SC-10 and have been watching other people's videos on it.
    I believe Dirk is correct about the heat bed wiring being the issue with this printer. I've just ordered some replacement wires to help mitigate any possibility of failure in my printer soon. But so far it's been printing flawlessly!
    I've subscribed and am looking forward to watching more of your videos. Great work and take care! ✌️

    A suggestion to help with warping, make an enclosure, it doesn't need a top, just 4 walls, getting rid of all air circulation made a big difference for me. Not only did it stop warping, prints come out just looking better overall. Once parts express gets me my driver's I'm building one for my mom and dad 😊

    I am always amused by the writing, editing and producing qualities of your videos, not even mentioning the outstanding mic tech and sound quality! I listened the test and I was, yeah, ok, then "one of the jerks again pumping music god damn" , then I noticed it is coming from my speakrs omfg :D it is sooo deep, I can finally annoy my neighboors too with a car XD

    I think it would be pretty neat if you were able to put a decibel meter during the comparisons, I know you can audibly hear the difference, but it would be a neat and easy way to compare between them.
    And if only there was a printer that could print this with a 8" enclosure, I think at 8" it could reliably replace alot of car audio systems without the large footprint or pricetag.

    My favorites are Chris Riley for 3d printing and audio williston audio labs for audio Amps. But honestly hexi your by far the best at combining the two!
