- Thanks for visiting out blog. This week we show you the two different types of bees that we use. We've used Northern Hybrids for years and they are great honey producers. This year we added bees from the Russian Honey Bee Breeders Association (RHBA) which certifies that they are pure bred Russians. I added the Russian Bees two weeks after the Northern Hybrids and they caught up to the Northerns in almost every way.
I hope you enjoy this update and don't forget to watch the Two Bee Honey fact of the week at the end of the blog.
The Two Bee Honey Hive Hotel allows the bees to draw comb naturally and it allows the beekeeper to work the hive with minimal disruption to their activity.
Thanks for this amazing video. Love those hotels. I saw that you got your

That is so cool.

Really interesting my second watch. do you find that the bees have issues with moving parts?
I too have a special situation with my hives. I have a northern hybrid, bot Italian and Carniolan. I have a flow hive 2, yet what I did was stack two deep boxes that hold frames that are 18.5" deep. My bees adore them. I find it mimics nature and they certainly over winter better on them.
Bees don't really like it when you move their boxes, that's why I'm moving to the Hive Hotels where I just move one frame at a time. I also started a Hive Hotel with an extended bottom and the bees can build comb up to 20 inches. So far it's working, but I think I'll go back to the normal box size for the winter.
How did you get frames to stay like tht on the 2 bee hotel?
They are hanging on eyehooks and I designed the rest of the hive to accommodate the hanging comb.
We're do you get your Queens from?
I get my Russian queens from Warm Colors Apiary in South Deerfield MA.
