Super broody once they begin brooding up. I live in central Ohio. It’s a normal thing to see the Russian bees flying at 37 degrees and higher. Also light rain will not keep them in their hives.

2022 was my first year bee keeping. I started out with 1 Russian nuc, 2 Italian nucs and 1 Italian package. The Russians took off right out the gate and I had a deep and 2 mediums on the hive in no time with a lot of nectar in the 2 mediums. The Italians were growing much slower compared to the Russians. Then one week i checked the Russians and noticed a huge decrease in the number of bees. I came back the next week and the hive was completely empty, they had absconded 😢. It dawned on me that the few bees i saw the week prior were the Italians robbing the honey left behind. I took the 3 remaining hives into winter and hopefully they will all survive. The package never did grow much, never filled out all the frames of their deep. I was considering splitting my largest hive this coming up spring and introducing a Russian queen to the split but after your info in this video, im not going to try it. Thanks for the valuable info! I am going to start that lost hive over again with another Russian nuc and keep a closer eye on it this time.
