i wanna see some variation of a few of these games getting released later, cause they look like fun. Like, the first one and the marble one for sure are things I'd love to see. But, first, I gladly await Blood and Mead!
Old, Weird, Janky... yes. But you can see the spark of a really good game designer even in these rudimentary projects. Now I'm even more excited to play Blood & Mead.
This is a reminder that game dev is not the linear journey we often imagine it to be. Every time you make something, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, adds to the things you know how to do. All those little skills added up over time forge you into a game developer. All these experiments and attempts at making games, even if they don't make money or even get played by other people still count to XP and are slowly leveling you up.
20 years is crazy, ngl I didn't think you were old enough to be doing it for that long lol super cool to see all the stuff you've made over the years tho, and that you're still following the passion today!
Wow. I love seeing the old flash projects! I was the perfect age to grow up playing flash games so it's awesome seeing what else would have and could have been
I'm more impressed that the USB drive from two decades ago still worked and that you still have Flash Player out there to play it. Haha. These games look cool, complete with SFX and everything. It's good to see some of the things that you developed from early on. Clutch Burn looks really cool!
He calls his old games crap. Here I was saying to myself "I wish I could make something like that" as I looked at them. Yes, I know they aren't goodgames, but I can't even make that. I've ben trying to learn, though.
I tried making flash games in the early 2000s, but could never figure out how to create health bars (instead opted for numbers), or enemies that would stay dead when re-entering rooms (they would just come alive again). Your stuff really showcased how advanced your programming was at an early time.
omg the first seconds of the video got me like "OMG I wish this would happen to me one day!!!" I always said that if I had 1 wish from a genie, I'd ask to get my old flash games and animations... too much memories which I truly wanna see 😭😭😭😭 The games you made are sooooo funnnn!!! I can see myself playing them nowadays hahaha! What a nostalgic video!! You're awesome!
Really like this video. I had no idea that you already made so many games before. I wish I would have done that instead of trying to make something large. The game at 9:40. I could see that being popular today.
This was super interesting, haha. My very first "I can use this basic programming to make a game maybe?" project was a lot like your early RPG attempt. You could walk around, grab keys, open doors, and I made a gun you could shoot in four directions. The rest of the gameplay was basically Pac-Man. It was all in the console using ASCII characters though, because my high school class only taught us very basic C and that's all I could do, haha.
Damn Bro that's quite a resume ! No surprise, that kind of passion doesn't fall out of the sky one morning, it's a lifelong journey. Thanks for Sharing.
So nostalgic :-) I also did a lot of Flash games for web in the early 2000's. Today I'm actually doing AAA game UI, based on Flash/Animate graphics and Actionscript, using a middleware/compiler called Scaleform. Still living that Flash life ;-)
very interesting and fun to see your development. that looks like a good way. making a lot of small games before starting a real one. might have to rethink mine...😅 thanks for the inspiration
5:07 Funnily enough technically you did buy it. You went in there with 90 rupees and spent 50 on your first click leaving you with 40. I guess there's a 24 hour waiting period whilst the shop does background checks before handing over a sword. Makes sense.
Wow you must have a profile on Newgrounds from back in the day. Ive followed you forever, and I can't remember if you ever mentioned NG as part of your history.
Lucky. I lost all my fla files when my harddrive died, back in 2006 i think. Started my career as a flash website / webapp developer, back in 2008. Btw, does anyone here remember shockwave and its language lingo? It brought 3d to the browser like 10 years before flash. Whatever happened to it.. probably adobe.
Some Developers Where selling there Finish Playable Flash Games On there Website for 3 Dollars and to be honest I don't spend money too much on a lot of stuff but I had to buy it... it was worth it , whom out there cant let 3 dollars go you know....Doing the math is a bit interesting as well...
Great video, but for some for some feedback, I was about to skip the video due to the title. However, I started and once I realised it was YOUR old flash games I was hooked, more game devs would be drawn into it that way, I assumed you were playing random old flash games, this was far more interesting and a great insight into game dev. "Reacting to my old flash games" ect for a better title to draw viewers in on this one. All the best John, huge fan!
Thanks for watching
any idea when it's getting released?

I guess you could call these... some Lost Relic Games... AMRITE?
Alright I'll see myself out now.
Nice
John's probably been waiting for this day since naming his business 😂
Lost Lost Relic Games
Old, Weird, Janky... yes. But you can see the spark of a really good game designer even in these rudimentary projects. Now I'm even more excited to play Blood & Mead.
man you truly had the vampire survival back then, thats super cool!

Hilarious, and I'd never expected that unity was able to export to flash, amazing
You are such a veteran man!
forever a student! :)
The design of these games are still solid. Love the look of them, brings back a lot of memories of flash games.
Hey thanks. Each of these games is a marker in time, playing them really took me back

Man I love seeing your evolution. Fantastic stuff :D
Amazing job!! Love seeing the progress and ideas!! Hope all is well with you and keep up all the great work!!
That spider/survivors game looked pretty good. It's cool to see stuff like this, where people started on their artistic career and how they developed.
So cool to see where you started and where you are going! very cool stuff.
Amazing work, and very humbling to see how even top tier game devs started out with small games. Inspired me to create more smaller stuff.
awesome variety! I recently found all of my flash game prototypes from the last 20 years as well. fun times.
This is like the developer's equivalent of looking at your old OC art.

Passion is strong! Looking forward to your new game
That fighting game where you took your photos is actually sick. I'd play a game where every character is a photo like that
Legendary stuff bro!
Hey awesome as always, keep it up!
It's really cool seeing you upload again.
Any kickstarter campaing video again? I liked those. :0
Really cool to see. I wish i'd taken care to store my old flash stuff
The stone sphere game looks emblematic of the mobile games of the late 2000s, and it also looks amazing!
the top down car game looked pretty sweet
Awesome work !!!
You could probably polish up the Vampire Survivor-ish game today and still have a pretty good release. You were well ahead of the curve.

A new lost relic video?
Today is a fine day
Wow this is really inspiring

How about "Replaying my old flash games" or oh hold on, this is a nice video :)
Wow super interesting! Especially that Unity flash game.
Wow you must have a profile on Newgrounds from back in the day. Ive followed you forever, and I can't remember if you ever mentioned NG as part of your history.

Old skool happens to create new skool, it’s a good thing!

Hey, any reason why Blood and Mead is/will be unavailable for Germany?
Shouldn't be. I'll look into it
a time machine video
9:30 No F**king way ahhahah.

Shockwave was awesome, I think it used Adobe director. I was always in awe but never got far with it. It was impressive tech for the time!
if can make this game for mobile you beat everyone in market
yeap. Older then me

As kids my friends and I watched a lot of Jet Li and Jackie chan :)
