    does it get cold in your apartment?

    • @MelodyAlisa
      @MelodyAlisa  8 років тому +29

      It is :) And yeah, it does, turning the ondol on during winter is definitely necessary but because I have a floor below and above me, I stay pretty insulated!

    This was filmed really well, i have to applaud you. It was so smooth. Usually room/house tours make me sick because the person filming shakes the camera too much. You on the other hand did very well. Thank you for giving us a peek at your home, especially because i want to live in Korea

    I really hope you answer. Have you found a church in Korea? It's the one thing no one seems to speak about.

    • @pleadthfifth94
      @pleadthfifth94 4 роки тому +1

      There definitely are churches available , but you have to look. If you are Seventh Day Adventist or open to visiting another denomination, try checking out the SDA Language Institute in the area near you. The schools generally have services on Saturdays.

    I am SO HAPPY that I have stumbled upon your channel 💜 I was first introduced through your Christian blog and happened to pick up the fact that you had previously been to Korea .👏🏽👏🏽 I am a former teacher with 25+ yrs of experience from which I have taken a “break” [only God knows His plans for me whether I return or not] to focus on my health since Covid.
    I actually became a part of the Ginormous “BTS ARMY “ during Covid and have NOT come out of the rabbit 🐇 🕳 hole I got stuck in!!! 😂🤣 I say as long as they are not leading me on a path to Hell, then I am going to continue to enjoy my journey with them and ride this HALLYU of music, fashion, culture; food, K-dramas [Yep, I’m STUCK in that hole as well 😜😅], and MORE…
    I Live in Tulsa, OKlahoma (USA , for foreigners watching and reading who may be unfamiliar) with my 13 years old daughter who is currently in Tulsa’s FIRST EVER K-pop dance group: “Synergi Dance Crew💜” 🤩👏🏽🤗😎🤩 God has opened a door I could NEVER imagine having gone through so I am cautiously being open and watchful for direction. I also have an older daughter (age 29) who followed in my footsteps as well and teaches at Tulsa’s first Public Montessori school . My oldest and only son (31) is a coordinator for a program for teen fathers in the school district. So we are ALL educators🙌🏾😇🙏🏾 (didn’t anticipate giving you my life story 🤪) “IN-Ti-wayyyy!! (anyways) ….
    Like I said, Im happy I stumbled upon you and found a WEALTH OF HELPFUL INFORMATION about Korea from your actual EXPERIENCE 😍🤩😎 I look forward to seeing the journey you captured along the way! 👏🏽👏🏽 You are bright, CHEERFUL, precise, insightful, knowledgeable, PASSIONATE, and MORE when it comes to sharing these videos with others and I hope they CONTINUE to enlighten others.
    I am currently trying to learn Korean via the “TEUIDA” free App that is 😮VERY INTERACTIVE and fun to use. I’m hoping to visit and possibly live at least 6mos -a year in Seoul or nearby before deciding to be Marian (on the move like you). My youngest and I have watched as many videos as possible about what life would be like as a black person there; but to have insight from someone who is following after Christ helps us further build a SOLID foundation built upon our CORNERSTONE(Jesus). I LUV that you gave this tour of the apartment from the entry all the way to the bathroom (and everything between) because I was DEFINITELY CURIOUS as to the details. Other have just briefly shown where they live but NOT as detailed of a tour; KUDOS 👏🏽👏🏽 QUESTION: THAT 🚿 SHOWER!!! THE WHOLE BATHROOM IS THE SHOWER AREA??? Floor and ALL w/ NO SEPARATE CORNERED AREA!!!??? (If it’s what it looked like (( and I thought I heard you say everything gets wet)) that would mean the toilet 🚽 AND THE SINK as well would be soaked! AM I GETTING THIS INFO CORRECTLY?
    Okay, ‘enuf ‘ for now 😝😇😁 GOD BLESS & THANK YOU 🙏🏾 Marian “NOT the Librarian 🙂”

    Seriously the most random things are high tech, and then you still hang up your washing 😂
    The bathroom is exactly like that I see in Cameroonian homes~ The detachable shower head and EVERYTHING gets wet.. I wish they had that in America.

    Seeing this video (aside from getting more insight of housing in Korea) has made me want to storage all of my collectibles I've invested in, and live with only the necessities. I live with my pets in my fully (if not overly ) furnished two bedroom apartment in the US.
    I can't stand having so much stuff.
    If anything's not in place, I would so easily be able to find it. Nothing would look/be cluttered, I would save more money if I don't have the capacity to buy more to keep with me.
    I've enjoyed some ganja and when I open my eyes to new things in life, it's an amazing experience.

    What is the security like? And does your personal door have a lock? What are the stores like regarding grocery shopping for food. I watched your grilled cheese video, and while I love Pho I'd like the option to make a grilled cheese or veggie burger. lol. Is that possible there? Your videos have me thinking about this EPIK program.

    Do you go out to eat a lot since you said you don't really cook at home? I always hear and see youtubers saying things like that and a lot of youtubers go to multiple cafes in one video so I was wondering if it was expensive to eat out a lot over there?

    • @MelodyAlisa
      @MelodyAlisa  8 років тому +30

      Yep, the way it works out, eating out isn't that expensive in general and also bc most meals are communal so you split the cost 2 or 3 ways which makes it even cheaper.

    Do you that southern area ( 경상복도) is rich part of South Korea. Busan, Ulsan, that areas are nice. One thing keep in mind. You are staying in strong regional South Korea. Take pride in own accent, culture, food, region. Very different from Seoul or other areas in South Korea. Love East Sea. Apartment is nice.

    I'm going to Korea in February. I saw your suitcases, and I was wondering, how many suitcases did you bring with you initially to Korea? Was it enough to bring everything you needed or did you have to leave a lot of stuff at home?

      Would you by any chance be willing to do a 'What to pack' video? Maybe of the stuff that you brought that you really needed, stuff you didn't need, and stuff you wish you'd brought? Thanks again! Always enjoy your videos :)

    Disregard the security and door lock questions had not pressed play yet. lol. Still curious about the grocery store. I've been to some korean stores in the states and know that they definitely have Culturally centric foods. :-)

    Okay I apologize if this question sounds silly, but I just want to double check if okay? You actually DO where the shower shoes while you shower, right? They're not just called that since you're "in the shower room" or anything like that, right? Again sorry for the silly question :) Oh and also do they allow animals at all in your apartment/most apartments?:)

    i'm Arabic but I hold a bachelor's degree in English literature so can i apply for the EPIK?

    • @SNSDforever2NE1
      @SNSDforever2NE1 7 років тому +1

      SARAH ISA I read that the requirements are being a native teacher and having experience teaching (more than 2 years) and having a degree (any degree).
      i'm in your same situation, even I'm not in college yet I have a certificate of English auxiliar teacher and I can teach in my country but I don't know in Korea because my first language is Spanish :(

    • @sarahisa4747
      @sarahisa4747 7 років тому

      yeah but it's optional and not necessary as long as you have the degree. I'm concerned about the nationalities that they ask for :(.

    • @SNSDforever2NE1
      @SNSDforever2NE1 7 років тому

      Then the only thing you need is having a master in teaching ans having 2 years of experience teaching

    • @sarahisa4747
      @sarahisa4747 7 років тому

      no i think they just want a bachelor degree

    • @SNSDforever2NE1
      @SNSDforever2NE1 7 років тому

      Nope, I've seen the requirements and asked an American teacher from my high school who taught and both say even you have a degree you must have experience in teaching for at least 2 years.

    hi! I'm not sure when you're coming back to the states (if you are), but one of my biggest concerns about going to teach in Korea is not knowing what to do or not finding a good job when I come back to the states. Do you have any ideas for work when you come back?

    Hi Mel, I'm assuming because you have a Bible and devotional that you are a Christian... so, I'm wondering how do you find time to read it and is there a church that you attend in Korea? Like how do you keep your faith life when living in a whole different country?

    • @MelodyAlisa
      @MelodyAlisa  7 років тому +2

      yes, I am! I usually use the last hour of my day to journal and read my devotional and Bible. I used to attend a church here but they sadly stopped offering their English service (the pastor moved back to America) so this year, I haven't. My faith has actually grown tremendously since being here. It's a long story but I talk all about it in this video: ua-cam.com/video/3OY5RKvjxg8/v-deo.html (starts at 8:10 mark)

    Random question, I saw your comment on tattoos, and I have a tattoo on my wrist.. do you think that would be a problem/stop me from getting the job??
