I have two chayote plants. The one in the pot I had it for more than a year and never flowered. The one I planted in the ground just started to flower. Hope it will not die since the nights here where I live started to get cold.
Always remember your climate. This fruit grows naturally in Jamaica no dark cupboard or plastic bags. No full sun.... We have 10 suns in most places..that is to say, 10 hrs sun, hot, in Caribbean plant it in partial shade.. water well while growing..
That par that ses that after 35 -45 days after planting the chayote is not true it take more then three months for the plant to start flowering and giving frout
En Costa Rica tenemos chayotes de 200 gramos hasta tan grandes como 400 libras como bolas de fútbol… centro y sur America es donde el chayote es originario ( nativo)
I guess the seed you used had not matured yet. Be sure to choose the seed from a mature chayote (a really old one not fit to eat anymore). I tried seeds from young chayote I bought to eat before. They sprouted some roots but then died out. Also, the tissue should not be too wet
@@Katya-zj7niSome people grow chayote by half burying the fruit into soil without removing the seed. It takes longer time but I heard the tree grow better
@@minhchaubuingoc8384that’s how mine has grown. Started sprouting (forgot I put it in the fruit bowl) sat it on top of a pot of dirt, and the vine is nicely growing on the balcony.
So far the best video I've ever seen about growing chayote. Thanks and have a nice day! Stay safe!
I just bought 3, for $1, each. I will definitely plant them as you indicate in your video . Thank you so much for the video
Thank you for your instruction. I can sprout chayotes easily now without rotting. And I share many chayote seedlings with my friends.

Ours did not start producing until October u.s. Zone 8B
Great video! That dirt looks horrible though- does it need that type of soil? Is it more like clay or sand? Will it grow in potting soil? Thank you!
Are you demonstrating how to plant the christophene or are you gently lulling me into a restorative night's sleep with that soothing music?
You have good ideas during covid. Easy and very little space needed. Thank you.
Please share. more ideas
Wait, so did you leave all 3 plants in that tiny pot or did you transplant to the ground?

There are many varieties of chayote that flower very early when the tree is young. Flowers must be cut off in order for the plant to mature
Just throw them on the ground, chayotes will grow naturally....
Do you sell these. Also are you in the USA? Where can I buy a fit one for growing.
