A friend had a red one of these 1980, whilst I had the Honda CB125T. We sometimes swapped bikes on the way home from college. The Honda was a much smoother ride and felt like it had a lot more power. Wow a bike with no number plate. So you for this short time actually own that bike and will give it to the state when you register it, making you the registered keeper. I wonder if Z plates exist in the UK so that you retain ownership? Good job getting it going!
I had a 79 UK version and it had a more rounded tank. That one looks like the tank fitted to later monoshock 125s. As its an import though, you can never be sure.
Amazed that started without a carb clean first, checked your fuel mixture screw? - I would also have checked for furries & other undesirables in the air box. Nice find, fantastic bikes, I loved my 1st bike, a 1980 XL125S.

Start engine before servicing, high revs during cold weather, start to drive without warming engine. Pretty cruel guy :D But thx for video

Helpful tip for future leave the bike on choke longer let it warm up properly then it will tick over better. Good job on getting it running tho.

We just call it an age related plate which will be in my name. Still not registered it tho. I need to get a move on

You can check the VIN plate behind the headlight on the frame of the bike and it will say the year of manufacture.

What do think of the xl185 as I'm thinking of getting 1 .I live in kendal so I want to get in the hills .
I really like them but not actually ridden one yet. I’m still mid registering this one. Once done I’ll be going out on the bike completely legally 👌
