      Was about to say this too.
      Also, they have to finish the journey they've already started and will drop off all their passengers at the next station, so look for ones that are nearly at a station and consider the passengers they will drop off when you move them.
      Also also, you can drop them really close to the station if time is running out!

    Only advice I have is to not underestimate the carriage. It’s basically another engine in capacity and helps getting through long stretches of circle without bypassing at the end

    • @ionrael
      @ionrael 3 роки тому +37

      Yep, i was thinking that, that maybe more capacity with more carriage or trains but with less lines would be better. You just have to ensure that from elsewhere you can go anywhere.
      Imagine in real life they try to avoid making new lined but more trains or more capacity instead.
      This game difference in mini motorway in that aspect, in that game making more routes is always better, but here is it a downsight.

    When you put two locomotives on a ring line you should always have them going opposite directions, that way the passengers will always take the shortest route to their station and not have to ride the line all the way round and you wont get a huge buildup of a certain type of passanger like the squares in the last round.

    Okay, so a few little tricks I've learned playing the game. I'm no expert by any means, but you may find these helpful.
    1) Trains slow down when their paths cross, even if there's no other train near by, unless the crossing happens at a station.
    2) Trains can go opposite directions on loops.
    3) Carriages are worth their weight in gold. Each line has a limited number of locomotives it can support, and each locomotive has a limited capacity. Carriages increase the capacity of a line. This is especially important on lines where you have long strings of the same shape in a row, because otherwise your trains will fill up before they reach the end.
    4) Passengers will always try to take the route with the fewest stops to their destination. This means that if you have two trains on the same line going in opposite directions, a passenger may decide not to get on that train and wait for a train going the other way, even if the train is empty.
    5) Interchanges are not as useful as they seem, but they do have their uses. If you have a station that's constantly building up more and more passengers, the interchange will only delay the problem. However, if a station has a lot of passenger flux, but stays roughly constant over the long term, an interchange can give a station the capacity it needs to temporarily hold a lot of passengers.
    6) You can move trains around at (almost) any time. They will drop all their passengers at the next station and then teleport to where you put them. If a train is at a station, you can't pick it up, though, because the game thinks you want to move the line.

    • @pseudonymous317
      @pseudonymous317 Рік тому +5

      nicely put! if i may, i want to add few more tips:
      - avoid making sharp turns/ zigzags (like the red line in 11:11), because train will stop at that turn regardless if they have passenger to pickup or not. try to atleast make the turn >90 degrees.
      - try to save an extra line for emergencies, like if multiple sations starts getting crowded
      - dont be afraid to deconstruct and reconstruct your ENTIRE line when things seemed to be not efficient anymore

  • @rmsgrey
    @rmsgrey 3 роки тому +69

    The key to more efficient circle lines is to run your second locomotive in the opposite direction to the first - the problem that killed you on the second run was that both trains on the orange line were emptying their squares in the SE corner, then picking up squares in the SW and not being able to get rid of them until the SE, so the interchange with red in the N filled up with squares that orange couldn't pick up because it was already clogged with square passengers.

  • @MadsterV
    @MadsterV 3 роки тому +115

    This game is great!
    Keep in mind the three main shapes: circle, triangle and square. These are the ones that repeat the most, so treat them as "zones" (residential, commercial, industrial), because they are interchangeable: passangers don't care what square they get to, as long as they are a square.
    This means having a long line with many squares and circles and only one triangle will always result in crammed trains, same as (you mentioned it) having many stops in the same shape. You don't need a short trip to every spot in the map, you need a short trip to any of the three main shapes. Since the other shapes are rare, it doesn't matter if the trip is long as long as there is a path to them. You can stick the rare shapes at the end of a line or whatever (do remember passangers will want to go from there to the other shapes though).
    Solutions to many equal stations are difficult, but you could have at most 2 in the same line, as long as the stations right next to them are the other two main shapes! You could extend your loops with this consideration. They'll be longer in space, but shorter in ride time, thus avoiding crammed stations. This will place stress in number of lines, so you could "join" two of these in an infinity shape (the scarce station in the knot) with trains going in the opposite direction, ensuring at most 3 stops to destination.

    Hi, a little tip which I would consider a little "cheaty", but only to the degree of blocking spawns in Mini Motorways, so try it out if you feel like it..
    So leave one of your lines and trains unused. You can then use that line and train as an "express route" for troubled stations.. For example make a line between one troubled triangle and a hub, relieving the pressure on the station, then DELETE that line.. Once the train (on the now deleted line) has delivered its 6 passengers, it'll be back in your "inventory" and you could use the same trick again.

  • @thebeardedbro
    @thebeardedbro 3 роки тому +2

    Ah yes I too like waiting at the metro for a week for my train to take me places.
    Also as a tip, trains take passengers to the nearest symbol on the line, so if lines overlap trains may dump passengers on other lines. If you have too many of the same symbol in a row the train won’t be able to pick everyone up and likewise if you have o o o ^ [] a train headed from the triangle/square side won’t pick up passengers that are triangles or squares because the destination is not in that direction. So only a train coming from the o o o side would be able to pick up passengers that are squares since squares are on its destination path.
    What this means is that the first circle will always be picked up, the second one fills in any gaps and the third rarely gets any passengers picked up because no passengers are being dropped off at previous stops to make room.

    You can micro-manage a situation as the one with the squares. Just keep grabbing the trains off the track as soon as they have emptied their squares. Put them back on the track, where the stations are full.
    But obviously, micro-managing only gets you so far.
    Also, when you make a circle track, think about which direction is better to drive. Sometimes you want two trains, each going different ways around. Other times you have situations where a certain way around is clearly better.

    The game likes to spawn new stations in weird spots though, so I find new lines > interchanges > carriage/tunnel/bridge, cause new lines give you a new train(essentially a carriage) but also more flexibility to deal with new stations spawning in weird spots.
    Awesome videos! Been watching a lot of your Polybridge2 & MiniMotorways videos - might pick those up when they're on sale!

    Always try and stack locomotives onto lines before carriages, good rule of thumb is 2 locomotives on a line before you add a carriage onto said line. You want to reduce overcrowding at stations first by having more frequent services (more locomotives) before you start building capacity on those lines (adding carriages). They usually follow this logic in most metro systems around the world.
    Edit: unless the line is short enough, you can get away with one locomotive + carriage on a line. In later stages of the game having one locomotive and one carriage on a really long line is actually less efficient than just 1 locomotive (the carriage increases the waiting time between stations, unless you add an additional locomotive to counteract the increase in waiting time)

    For this map it's easier to treat it as three zones and create one horizontal connection between them, and sometimes convoluted routes with more alternating shapes work better than four circles and 1 square in a certain train section.

    I usually make it to the top50 of the daily challenges (I win one every now and then), so here are my pro tips for the 'normal' mode of playing:
    - ALWAYS choose a central square to make it your 'central station', this is really key to surviving as long as possible! ALL your lines should start in that station. Try to avoid that lines cross in other stations as the game will not manage the passengers optimally if you do so. If another square station pops up that is placed better, change your central station to this one but only in the beginning of the game
    - ALWAYS choose a new line instead of something else, more lines reduce the time a passenger needs to travel to get to the centre square station significantly
    - NEVER EVER use loops, those do not combine well with my first advise point
    - try to mix triangular and circular stations, try to have as few as possible in one line. Usually 2 of the same type behind each other are still ok. EVERY line should pass through the central square station and to at least 1 circular and at least 1 triangular station. If not, you end up with too many passengers going to 'normal' (triangular or circular) stations in your central station, which you want to avoid
    - ALWAYS use the pause button whenever you want to change something. Especially at the very end of the game, when you have dozens of stations, this is important and I often pause every second to check if everything is still optimal
    - you can move trains around, and you should! On lines with only circular and triangular and square stations you can even move every train back to the end of the line once they almost reached the central station. I really often move trains around on the same line, and only at the very end I start moving trains around between different lines.
    - there is 1 situation where I ALWAYS move trains to the end: if you have 3 or more stations of the same type at the end of your line. Move them before the train leaves the first station of that set of stations, otherwise the train will run empty for some time which you want to avoid
    - NEVER EVER keep lines, trains or carriages behind 'until you need them'. Try to keep the amount of travelling passengers as low as possible during all times (even in the beginning of the game) and you need everything to your disposal to do so. You can always move a train to another location if needed or change a line.
    - try to avoid simply deleting lines, if you want to put a line somewhere else just change the shape so you avoid that passengers currently moving on the line need to disboard the trains on a wrong location
    - avoid buying bridges/tunnels if you do not need them. If you are in shortage, be creative with your network and shorten a line to free up a bridge temproarily until next time you can get a bridge/tunnel.
    - if possible, try to set up your lines so that the stations with special shapes are as close as possible to your central station. In your central stations, there will be mostly passengers needed to go to special stations so you want to get them there as quickly as possible
    I can give many more tips (just ask), but these are the basics. Sorry for the long reply, but if you want to excel, it is not done with 1 or 2 lines of advise!

    One way it worked for me was by allotting each line to a specific part of the city for instance I'd take a series of lines that would each do a loop over a vertical section above the river while another one would do a horizontal one below and the final one would do a loop of the entire outer rim of the city.

    ✓ If you put two trains on a loop, make sure they go in opposite directions.
    ✓ If there's only one train on a loop, I think you should direct it so that the distance between the nearest cross-platform and a rare station or square is minimum.
    ✓ You should keep the last line for ghost-lining. I.e. you use it to connect a near-to-overcrowd station to another appropriate station. Then you cancel it soon as the train departs and reconnect two other stations that need urgent connection. If you have a big fleet you can have multiple ghostly sections in your city :)) I think ghost lining is the best strategy I've learnt so far. It boosted my scores like crazy. Though I still don't know how people get 10000+ (ten thousand!). Maybe they use all lines for ghost lining but this doesn't seem enjoyable. Single or double ghost lining helps me to get to Top 10 on daily challenges :))

    there are actually quite a few portions of the nyc subway system that are above ground (especially in the Long Island Burroughs). the elevated lines that existed in Manhattan proper are all defunct and either taken down or turned into city parks. regardless, there are quite a few instances of the trains using bridges instead of tunnels cuz they were vastly cheaper at the time.
    one of the coolest examples is the Queens 59th street bridge as, even tho it has pedestrians on the outer edges now, it used to have subway tracks where the pedestrian platforms are, which were later converted into car platforms that led to a giant car elevator for an island in the middle of the river and even later took their present form for peds.

    My advice is to create a spider web. See the way u did it u had one long track with one maybe two change offs, but if u creat stations that connect to a different line on each stop then it would work in a much more organized way. A city that does this quite well is Madrid, if u look up it’s metro map you’ll know what I mean

    aand you can move your line around. sharp corners can get softer. duno how to explain. grab a piece of track nearby a station and look. this one at the blue the triangle can get softer to the circle northbound but will make the turn at the circle sharper. this is where you have to plan you you will route your line.
    10:29 and instead of grouping, the same shape try to put something in between, even it is more track and time. this game is more capacity management based ^^
    so triangle right to the circle left and SE bound to triangle and then back left to circle

    In that very last bit where you attempted to save the squares with pink you shouldve just traded your yellow line'd bridge and made it go up instead of left so it uses the one bridge it already was and started taking the squares down. From there you can use the pink on the free land. Honestly the limiting factor of bridges means you gotta look at where you are currently using them and just adjust those lines since you have freedom on lines that don't use them at all. Hard to do when in the moment but gotta remember when you pause you have all the time in the world, take as much as you need to think every possibility through and don't panic, never a good time for the picnic panic.
    Love all the series mate, gonna be interesting to see how you adapt to the later levels in the game when a few extra mechanics are thrown at ya.
