That's beautiful. I love the way this tank turned out. Excellent job.
Thanks man! I can't wait to see how it looks when the plants have grown in for a couple months!
Nice looking tank! I really felt like designing terrariums for my reptiles helped me do aquariums better, and vice versa. Love your channel by the way.
Thanks man! I think the same thing, a lot of the same techniques and thought processes go hand in hand.
I'm super into my fish so I'm so happy you've branched out dude, love it
Thanks man! Glad you enjoyed!
Can't wait to see the updates on this tank. Was looking into getting the 15G version of this one.
You should! They are really nice!
The moment you mentioned Pisces Pets you let me know you're also from the same city and province as me. Glad to see someone from where I live on UA-cam! nice video, very helpful.
I was in the same province, I recently moved to Ontario haha
Looks great, I love all the shots of the tank fully set up at the end.
Glad you liked that part :)
Very nice video; thanks for posting. The one thing you didn't show was the filling up of the aquarium with water. I wanted to see that because I wanted to see how cloudy the unwashed substrate made your aquarium.
It really depends on how you fill it.
@@MikeTytula Right, but it would have been good to know how you did it, and what the result was. I just filled up my Fluval Flex 15. I used Fluval Stratum; I think it's similar to the substrate you used. I followed the instructions on the bag, rinsing gently before putting in the aquarium. I used a collender, and filled it about 1/3 to 1/2 with substrate, rinsed and then put it into the aquarium. Took about 12 loads to do all of the bag. I put a piece of wax paper over the substrate and wood, and filled the aquarium gently by pouring the water over my hand. The result was pretty good. There was some cloudiness, but not much and it was pretty much gone in a few hours.
You never want to wash the fluval stratum as it tends to loosen the granules and is much more difficult to achieve a clear tank right from the start. The method you mentioned definitely works though!
Looks great! I love the choice of fish too!
The rummynose rasboras are pretty awesome colourful little guys!
Beautiful scape and a great video.
Thanks for watching! Glad you enjoyed :)
Great video! I'd like to find some Halloween shrimp for my Flex 15 here in Minneapolis
They are awesome!
Hello Mike, I love this tank! Can't wait till it grows out. It looks like an underwater fantasy land.😄
God's blessings to you and yours, Lin
Thanks Lin! I appreciate it!
you're not alone with adding a second light under the hood. if you find something that will work please share. the best option so far seems to buy a replacement light for that tank and use some crazy epoxy to attach it to the top.
Ya that sounds like what I might be doing!
Been watching your vids for years even bought something off you lol. I'm doing a planted fluval flex 9g as well
Oh what did you buy?? And that’s awesome! Good luck :)
@@MikeTytula a type of bug for my vivarium. Isopods I'm pretty sure and springtails
Amazing video
thanks for watching
Looks really nice!
Thanks! :)
Thank You very much for this video. It really helped me learn about the hobby. I really appreciate hoe you take the time to teach us how!!
Of course! I appreciate the support!
I’d be. Very interested as well. I’ve had the tank for a year and it looks really filthy. I clean it about once a week. I’d love to start over but me fish are still alive. Had four shrimp and two guppies that did not.
Great looking tank!
Thanks James!
Hey Mike! Great video. Could you do a video talking about or maybe even demonstrating how you'd clean the tank and change the water and stuff like that? Thanks dude!
At some point I'm sure I can make that video happen :)
Yummy look to the tank plant names good too
Thanks
Beautiful setup!
Thanks man!
Nice setup
Thanks! Long time ago haha.
Pisces is a wonderful place
Pisces is pretty cool!
I love your vids!
Thanks Owen I appreciate it!
About all I'd put in a tank like that would be a pair (male and female) of Bettas, a few tetras, some shrimp a little pleco/cleaner cat species that won't get big but will take care of the algae, and maybe a couple little dwarf African water frogs.
Lol I have my plans my friend. Thanks for the input though
like I said that's all I'D put in it, you will do something different I'm sure. I've never been a fan of people putting bettas in little quart and a half dishes or 1 gallon tanks. They are so pretty and can be kind of funny when given space and a community aquarium, so long as the other fish don't attack it's fins or the pump/filter isn't too strong. We've lost a couple bettas to too strong filters over the years. Those dwarf frogs are really cool. I've always wanted a little puffer tank too. I think if I ever have another fresh water tank that isn't a naturalistic tank it will be mainly cichlids and banjo catfish and stuff.
Great setup Mike. Since you've completed 6 months just wanted to ask what the plant growth's like under stock lighting. Also are you dosing CO2, Iron, etc? Thanks :)
I'm not dosing anything. If you are looking for an update just search on my channel fluval flex and the update should pop up.
Mike Tytula amazing, just checked it out. Running stock lights at full brightness?
You bet!
looks great
Thanks!
I have the FF15g and tried pogo as well, it all melted and didn't come back, the lights just aren't strong enough to keep it alive. Be careful of stocking, it is a small tank with a small footprint. You can cut sponge and put it inside the intake guards to keep baby shrimp from living in your filter area. Check out my Fluval Flex on my channel. Canadian too! :D
Funny mine did fine... what soil mixture were you using?
@@MikeTytula Stratum and Flourite capped with sand. I've also been using ferts and passive C02.
I was taught that you should put 1-2 inches of water in for planting, then you can fill it the rest of the way.
Dry is honestly best, from my experience.
Looks nice
Thanks Kelsey!
Add the extra light .. I added a single white led bar to mine and it’s loads better
Thanks for the advice man :)
You should set up a reef tank to
I just don't have time unfortunately :/ Or space really
Very cool nano , what kind of driftwood is this?
Spider wood
One of the weakness of the fluval flex 9 gallon aquarium is the noisy pump. Totally not suitable for bedroom. Nice setup.
I have it right next to my bed and find it just fine.
Agree, I've thrown it out and replaced it with an Eheim pump - much quieter
I find mine is very quiet. I wonder if they've improved them since these comments?
I cut out all the filtration out of mine and now it’s a 10 galllon, the holes for the filtration are to big ,and small fish would go inside. Now a HOB filter on it.
Interesting, I would like to see pics if you have some.
The tank looks great I love those rasboras I've been thinking about purchasing that tank the light has been holding me back you think the light is capable of growing plants
Oh it will grow some plants very well!
why cant i find a way to order the plants online? it seems like you must be a dealer to buy them from the website??
The Tropica plants? Ya, you need to get them from your local petstore or local online retailer.
What would you use to cover the in flow if you wanted to breed egg layer fish in a tank like this ?
You could use filter foam, window mesh, or other filtering type materials
@@MikeTytula ok. Ty
Cheers
Looking at getting this fluval flex tank in 57 Litre size, it’s also going to be for my bedroom can you tell me if it’s a noisy tank? As some tank filters have a deep humming/ rattling sound to them, I want a really silent set up for the bedroom. Thanks
There is a bit of humming but that is kind of unavoidable with a tank like the flex.
Mike Tytula what do you with a tank like the flex? I’m fluval are supposed to be 1 of the best tank brands you can get. Thanks
I'm not sure what you mean....
Mike Tytula - not to worry I set it all up and it is quiet enough for me. it’s just been all put together planted with ornaments I used the Aquarium soil also by tropica, I was wondering though, Do I need to add additional plant food at different stages later on? or is the soil enough for the plants 🌱 to live on. Thanks
I really enjoyed your video and have subscribed accordingly :) Anyhow, what kind of filters do you use for something like this.
It's all internal filtration in the separated compartment in the back.
What fish is that with red nose? Amazing art work there!
Those are rummynose rasboras
Hi, is that the same Fluval filter sponge that is used in the Fluval Specs?
uhhhh I don't remember. I think so
I go to pisces for all my fish products
Right on! You probably seen me there then!
Hey! great video. Do you mind sharing which species of 12grow you have? Thanks!
you can see them all in the video..
Did you have to add the extra light
I didn't have too, but I changed lights anyways haha
how do you change water?
A standard syphon
Nice setup and growth with stock lights. CO2?
Nope no CO2 used in this tank
What types of bromeliads do i use for my crested gecko terrarium that are safe for my crested gecko
All broms are fine.
Thanks
You got your answer years ago hahah
nice vid
Thanks for watching!
Hey man i hope you can respond to this but my vield chameleon has stopped eating and cant shoot his tongue out anymore, idk what to do please help
Vet trip my friend
as much as i would like too i cant afford it right now, is there anything else i could do
Just make sure there is plenty of UVB, and make sure he is extremely well hydrated
Hey I have a question can you put spring tails in with a baby pac man frog?
yup!
Mike Tytula thanks
When will you make a video on upgrading band into his new terrarium?
This week likely!
I have a question for you @MikeTytula as I haven't worked with an aqua soil, when cleaning the tank would you still be able to use a siphon or gravel vacuum on the substrate?
You can, you just have to be careful, but you honestly shouldn't have too if planted properly.
Hi, How many 1 2 grow pots did you use to get the micanthemum to carpet like that? :)
I used one cup I'm pretty sure!
Mike Tytula great! Thanks for the reply 👍🏻
No problem!
I would if I knew how to send photos
hahah facebook?
How do I find reptile shows and know were they are what website is it
Just look up cities near you with reptile shows in the search
Pogostemon helferi wont grow without running Co2 on the tank.
That's not always true I've grown it with no CO2, you just need higher light.
Nice friend
Thanks buddy!
Cool
Thanks for watching!
Do you have a heater ?
Yes, I have a heater in the back
How bout co2?
Not just yet! Maybe some day though!
do you live in wisconsin you look familiar
Nope... Calgary Canada
Im from Argentina. Can i join the giveaway if i pay the shipment?
I mean if you win and are willing to pay shipping than I don't see why not, but I would have to check with Pisces!
#fluvaltrippin
haha what?
You sound like Michael’s son on GTA V
I get that more than you'd think haha
Awesome looking tank!
Thanks man!
