On the areas that rub like the seatbelt area and sunvisor clips the best thing to use is clear headlight film. You just cut a piece and adhere it to the areas that rub and it's invisible and protects the painted parts from rubbing through to to underlying color.
I have broken so much I swear some year BMW models have better quality than others. Some crumble and some don't. If you can get the plastics new. New fabric on Old plastic still breaks
i wrapped mine with vinyl from wal mart using 3m super 77 spray. i live in south texas and they have been holding up for 3 years now. literally paid less than 20$ to fix A and C pillars. follow the glues instructions and it will last for years. i see mine lasting another 5 years easy. got the idea from a forum where everyone said the 3m glue is the best for the heat down here
I covered all the pillar covers, the headliner, and the rear speaker panel with foam backed black leather look vinyl in my 2001 330ci. It was a bit of a pain to get wrapped around and formed to the really curved areas, but very much worth the trouble in the end. I wish I post pictures here to show what it looks like, because it looks fantastic. The black leather look vinyl goes great with the rest of the interior which is now entirely black top to bottom.
Just did this working off your guide - thanks for posting! A quick note: I actually had to remove the fake leather piece below the B pillar to reinstall properly. You can remove the B pillar fine the way shown, but the leather piece under it has 3 tabs/clips that need to wrap around the back and up into the B pillar. I couldn't figure out a way to get those tucked back in without completely removing the bottom leather piece. It's twice as much work but worth it if you're anal about this kinda stuff like me.
On the front pillar if the tabs broke you can use some good quality removable double sided tape as long as the strip is in good condition. Be careful if the tape can adhere to texture. I had some high temp smushy type, no visual difference to the strip with with tabs still intact.
When I pulled off the original material, every just came off. if you’re having fabric stick around, it might mean this project has been done before by a previous owner. Different glue and fabric.
In America we are screwed if you want to have a Euro spec black headliner. Also wagon hack of the day. X3 parts are your friend for interior trim. Also who wants to help me with a cool wagon project. Coupe venting window installed in the fixed window in the wagon??
My B Pilar I had to remove and one I removed it the Alcatara started coming off the B pillar . Should I start glueing it back on or should I re warp it . I was worried if I sprayed some glue on there it would soak through the Alcatara . Should I be worried about that ?
Appreciate the effort to make this video, but it was mostly spent watching the removal of the trim pieces, with the important part (the re-covering process) all in fast motion...
Sigh, I just ordered the replacement kits for ABC pillar from ECS and it's like $600.... Any suggestion on that super expensive door trim/weathers seal piece for both of the doors?
Looks good! Do you have a SKU or other code for the fabric you used? The trim panels are starting to peel on my '01 330Ci and I'll probably be doing the same thing this spring.
This is exactly what the receipt says. Hope this helps! " SKYT KSF21 BLACK RIB KNIT 400180238796 " The adhesive I recommend is linked in the description. Either one will work.
@@TenzaMotorsports thank you! I went there and thought I got the right stuff but was absolutely impossible to work with. I’ll be going back and getting that
@@TenzaMotorsports that’s fair i just was looking for one to do my pillars and my headliner and that looked like a good product to use and thanks for the informational video
It’s just a generic fabric. Nothing specific. Something that can be found at any local craft store. Just needs to be able to stretch one direction but not the other
They original fabric is faded, torn, stained, stretched.. not worth it to try and reuse. Plus a previous owner tried gluing some of it up and got glue all over the outside.
coming from someone who just bought a E46, you are an insipiration and i can learn alot from your videos. subbed
Thanks for the sub! lots of content to come.

I was worries about glue with fucking Texas heat! So good to know

Post them on Reddit! e46 subreddit
What a great, inexpensive way to clean up an older interior.

I did this a couple years ago with the black fabric too, after a couple years its getting pretty sunfaded now. Need to do it again!
Im looking to do this on my e46, what kind of fabric did you use
use lightfast marerials
did you ever cover what exact fabric type/weave/name you used? going to joanns today but don’t know what to ask for.
I just asked for black fabric that only stretches one way.
This is probably A first mod for any new E46 owner
They are old enough. I can’t see how any original car still has them in tact.
Great Job! Can you tell me how you removed the black felt material that stays on the A,B, and C pillars when you remove the factory fabric?
When I pulled off the original material, every just came off. if you’re having fabric stick around, it might mean this project has been done before by a previous owner. Different glue and fabric.
Bro I need to do this to my e46 🔥🔥🔥🔥🤙🏽 thank for the video ❤️
Thanks for watching!

And the sun shades and handles? Have you also painted them in black?
No, I’m leaving the roof tan. Keeps the car simple for the build and makes it look more open with lighter colors up top.

There isn’t much else to watch. Spray both side and wrap. It’s very simple.
Searching for days now this thin fabric but can’t find it anywhere where did you buy it
Joanns
Awesome work bro thanks
Glad I could help!

When you went to the upholstery shop what did they recommend to look for fabric wise at Joanns ? Just look for the stretch on the suede?
They told me to find fabric that only stretches the one way. Worked great for these small pieces
@@TenzaMotorsports Thank you for the quick response! Ill check out my local joanns tomorrow. Woot

Another great project.
Thanks for the comment!
do you have a link for the fabric you used?
I don’t. I bought it locally. I can’t recommend a product I find online because I don’t know if it’ll work or not without seeing it in person.

Get fabric that only stretches one way and is pretty stiff pulling the other way.
How do you call the fabric u used?
Is it easy to get alcantara ?
Where did you get the fabric? I spent an hour in joaans and couldn’t find anything near this good
I got it at JoAnn’s.
Hey great video , just got a e46 and need to do the same. How much fabric did you need ? Do you remember the dimensions by any chance ?
I think I used a couple of yards.
hello tenza. can you provide me with the info about the fabric? thx in adv 😘
I don’t have a specific fabric to use. Just make sure it only stretches one direction.
why one direction? and do you have info of the fabric store? i wanna check with my options🥳 thanks
So what was the result after all? You did not show us these parts installed in ur car
I went over the results at the end of the video. I didn’t show them reinstalled because we aren’t ready to put the interior back together
is it still holding up with no dips?
Yes. Still looking solid!
could we do this with the factory fabric?
Do you mean like. To fix the fabric that’s already there?
Where did you buy the black fabric? (sorry, I'm Spanish and my English is not very good) . Thanks!
I bought it at a local fabric store.
Could you help me!? Great for a video! I’m in NC
you never said in the video what type of cloth you used
It’s just a generic fabric. Nothing specific. Something that can be found at any local craft store. Just needs to be able to stretch one direction but not the other
Nice!!
Thanks man!
Seat belt is 16mm
Thanks for the comment
Please note that when saying Coupe it’s a wrong way to pronounce the french word which is coupé… so you know
I’m not French. I’m sure they pronounce our words wrong too
Never mentioned the type of fabric...
It’s just a random black fabric. It only has to have one property. It stretches one way but not the other.
Why would you get new fabric. Just re-glue the original, colors match.
They original fabric is faded, torn, stained, stretched.. not worth it to try and reuse. Plus a previous owner tried gluing some of it up and got glue all over the outside.
