I did this method with my lophophora williamsii on 7/26/2023 which are running near to a year in their incubator container! This method worked so amazing. I got 25 to 30 good sized heads that’s popped up so I’m so content! Going to be replanting them this weekend !
Great news - congrats! 👏
@@greatnorthernexotic thank you! I saw the video pop up again and I just had to give an update because this is the video that helped me!
I love your plants, today is day 1 of growing for my family. My inlaws are members of the NAC, they are from the Dine (navajo) tribe, I helped them plant their seeds, so hopefully in a few weeks they'll start growing. Good luck and God Bless.❤
That's awesome! Great to hear that Diné culture and traditions are alive and well in 2024. Best wishes from the UK!
Thanks for the video! I really appreciated the no-nonsense advice.
Thanks for watching!
Very cool!!
That is great info, sir! Thank you and keep up the greatness!!!
Thanks for watching!
Appreciate it brother
Thank you 🙏
Any news on em now? Would be nice to see.
Foreal haha
Update ❤
Good info thanks.
Glad it was helpful!
Planted 26 of April
👍
Hello, and thank You for the very helpfull, user friendly guide video.. I have a question, I have used celluphane over pots, with needle holes, and I have changed the cellophane because the celluphane godt tender, and they got som air, is it bad before the 6 month expanding to germanise?
Airing the seedlings out is fine, I usually prise the lid off by that stage and reduce the moisture.
@@greatnorthernexotic Thank You for the reply, and have a nice Weekend 👍🌵
I am wondering how slow they are growing. After 1 year mine are not more than a half centimeter. Is this normal?
Without artificial light? That sounds similar to mine.
Where do you buy peyote seed
Would love a care guide for seedling-adulthood
That's where I have the most problems by far.
Do you use any kind of fungicide, pest control or sterile substrate?
Thanks, great video
Thank you! I didn't use anything like that at the time but the most common thing I've seen others do is to microwave or bake the substrate to kill anything off prior to sowing. I will be using this method going forward as my seedlings have had to contend with some moss growth that I've subsequently had to pick out. Hope this helps!
@@greatnorthernexotic Thanks a lot
Do you have drainage holes in the container for the seedlings?
No
You put them from the start on the light or you keep them for some days in the dark ?
Straight into the sunlight for me.
So it takes years to get big enough to fully appreciate, damn
You can definitely quicken the process with growlights but I like the hard grown look.
at least twenty years? more like something for the grandkids...
and the harder theyre grown, the more alkaloid... remember, its a defense mechanism...
not a fan of grafting. but if thats your thing... still twenty years :) and by then you dont want to as it took so long...
@@paradiselost9946 Damn, that's too long. Think Imma try growing shrooms instead.
where do you live? I think I will need a grow light as it might be too cold for these on my windowsill in Washington state.
I'm UK (USDA Zone 9a equivalent) - I'm slightly more northerly than you (so fewer daylight hours?) but milder climate due to Gulf Stream. Lophs will always grow quicker with a growlight, for sure.
thank you! Do you think the mix you used compost/topsoil is best or can I also use what I have for my grown plants such as 40% pumice, 20% gravel, 20% perlite or vermiculite, 10% sand, and 10% earth worm castings? I just made the mix for my grown plants and have some left over.
Where I am it is very cold and dim in the winter... and not much better in Spring or Autumn! Never had any trouble with these hardy little plants. As @GreatNorthern says they will grow faster with grow-lights, but unless you get a week or two of frosty nights in a row, cold is not a problem for them. Good air circulation helps though, to fend off fungal infections such as 'rust'. If you want something truly weatherproof and bugproof (and almost bulletproof) try the trichocereus bridgesi cacti.
One of those seeds looked a little strange;)
Is it okay for the water to accumulate at the top and rain down heavily on the soil? I don’t want to open it. But I opened it two times in the beginning to get some of the water out. Idk how much is too much. But I do have mine on a heat pad, and under a grow light. I have cats and don’t want to put it on the window. I payed 50$ for 25 seeds. I’ll be happy if 1/3 of them grew up ok. But should I just let it be? Just completely leave it alone? If you have time to answer it would be much appreciated sir. -padawan john
Put a drain hole at the bottom so too much water can escape
In my experience, as long as there isn't so much water than its pooling on top of the soil, you should be fine. Make sure it's wet enough that there is condensation inside the tub.
its a cactus. they need it to be moist for as long as it takes to get established...
theyre pretty tolerant of water but they dont appreciate wet feet for too long. let them dry out. its what cactii are used to.
Can You plant in the fall/ Winther?
I think spring is best but I sowed mine in September and they've done well. I suppose it's all about how much light you can provide over the darkest months.
@@greatnorthernexotic Thanks again M8! Have a nice Day Sir 🤙🙏💪💚
Two months? Mine grew to that size in two weeks under my 400w hps lamp. In coco coir and pumice WITH fertilizer.
No doubt, my man. And there'll be habitat lophs looking like this after two years 😂
@@greatnorthernexotic what do you mean? so if you grew them under the light would they get large pretty fast? could you then put them outside without shocking them too much?
Thanks for vid. What if 1. I'm in Canada 2. North facing window?
Most Canadians will be living at a much lower latitude than us in the UK so I imagine it's not the amount of sun that would be the problem for you but with a north facing window I'm not sure you'd be exposing your seedlings to enough light. In your situation I'd probably go for a growlight to supplement the natural sun you can offer your plants.
@@greatnorthernexotic Thank you. I do have some grow lights. I guess it's very important in the begging stage. Luckily I live in the South, and also in one of the hottest regions in Canada. It's almost classified as a desert and one of the few regions with wild cactus's.
Here's an update on these seedlings after 8 months: ua-cam.com/video/Kjhdv4gzaxY/v-deo.html
How often do you crack the lid for fresh air?
Surprisingly, not at all until they're big enough to pot on. Just maintain the moisture levels and they'll be fine. I mist them every few days.
Where do you get these from Ebay?
Mesa Garden in the US (when they're in stock): mesagarden.com/product-category/genus/lophophora
BCSS seeds list in the UK: bcss.org.uk/seeds/
Where are you from brother ?
Yorkshire, UK.
Drainage holes?
Needs to stay consistently moist for at least the first six months, so no drainage holes needed. Sounds counter-intuitive for cacti, but works!
Do you make tee shirts?
You are better off with Psyllicibin mushrooms. They don't make you sick.
😄 my interest is purely botanical 😎👌
Do I just eat these or do I do some special chemical shit to trip
I just grow 'em 🤷♂️😄
How to you grow cacti in place with no sun?
You don't
