That burning smell could be the subwoofer glue that's burning off the coils its normal for the first couple of days usually it's over glue and burns off with heat

I got 2 10” pioneer on a 1000watt Memphis amp. Sounds great inside cost me about 700. Probably could’ve saved more if I knew someone that does it outside of the shop.
Did you replace the door speakers too? I want to do what ya'll are doing and just leave my factory door speakers alone for the time being. Add an amp and 2 or 1 sub in the truck. I just might like it and keeping it that way. The stereo stores keep pressing me to replace all the door speakers. I just want a little bass to enjoy for my own ears.

I have the box pointed down and fits perfect under the small split seat... My amp behind back the fold down part of big seat. So only lost the small side where sub is as storage. It does the job just fine for me.

I know this video is a couple years old but just in case you were still running this setup I figured I would shed some light on the bass issue you brought up. The bass being louder at low volume and less at higher volume is call bass roll-off. It's a function of the factory radio. Basically, bass makes cheap OEM speakers distort and sound bad, so as the volume is turned up, the radio turns the lower frequencies down. The little box your installer put in the B-Pillar to get the signal for the sub is just a basic Line Output Converter. There are more advanced LOC's that will restore bass or you can install a bass processor between the LOC and the amp if you would like. Audiocontrol makes the LC2I LOC or the Epicenter Processor. Some other companies make an LOC like the LC2I. One is Skar Audio, they make the SKE2LOC. I have installed several of the LC2I's for guys and they work amazing. I will be installing a Skar Unit in a few days for a customer for the first time. I came to this video because I have a customer that wants a sub but has limited space to install one so I wanted to see how good the Pioneer sub sounds. I appreciate your review video.
Hey boss! I've been doing audio installs for over 10 years (from a single 6.5 to 4 18s walled to 12 15s walled) and the smell could be a couple things (or both). With some woofers you can smell the glue on the voice coil when it heats up, you could also be clipping which will heat the coil up much much faster, clip it hard enough and it'll blow. The gains on your amp are not volume controls. They are simply for matching your head units output voltage to your amps input voltage. Turn off/down any and all "bass boost" options on your head unit and amp and set your gains with either an O-Scope or SMD DD-1 to avoid any distortion or clipping. A clean signal is a happy signal!
I definitely think this was clipping because the sub was fried not to much longer after this video. We got a new one installed so hopefully we got it dialed in properly this time. I appreciate the information though man 🤝
Things to consider when putting in a Sub, you may need to upgrade the charging system (i.e. alternator) or upgrade your battery. Its always good to ask a professional if you don't know what you're doing.
For the subwoofer: I was looking at that sub/enclosure but I heard that it really is more for just some decent low end sound and doesn't push a whole lot as you try to punch it. I was considering going with dual shallow 10" woofers so I have a little more thump but it won't be overwhelming because of the shallow mounts and will still fit nicely under those seats. My amps aren't professionally installed and are just sitting in that compartment behind the metal frame under the seats (they sit tilted and don't look good but oh well they work and are out of the way and don't slide around). Looking at the MTX 3510-04 and the Pioneer TS-A2500LS4 because they are cost-effective online and are capable of mimicking a higher performance 10"/12" with bigger voice coils/magnets. As far as that JL Audio TW3 is what I think you refer to around the 21 1/2 min mark and no - those sound amazing. You need to pair a good amp with it and probably run two of them but they're the best you can get in the slim subwoofer department. People might not review them as well because the power rating isn't as impressive but if you ran a dual 8" TSW3s you'd be impressed - compact but super clean and a rich low end which is tough to get in a shallow mount sub because SPL just isn't as high because of the smaller components used.

I have a 2016, I have my amp behind my left passenger seat, it's neat back there, all I'm waiting for is someone to build me a box to go back there. I pretty much use my backseat floor for when I go grocery shopping and taking my dogs to the vet, so having the system under the seats was out the question for me and have it hidden from thieves. But I love the way your truck looking, thinking bout doing a leveling kit and some rims.

chevy 302 are fairly rare most people dont even know chevy made a 302 in the late 60's (67,68,69 i think). and that power wire is way to small if you start getting a burning smell see if the wire is getting hot it should be 4ga wire or 6ga min that said it will fail and melt and dont think the 60 amp fuse will blow if it shorts wire the small wire thanks for sharing.
I hope he used a DD1 to set those gains correctly. Most of the time a correctly set gain is quarter turn or somewhere in between if your gains are set around half turn then it’s done wrong. Gain is NOT a volume button.

No I see why it was smoking! It was the 4 channel amp! Bridging it give more power but the frequency design of the woofer shouldn't take what the front speakers take. Mono for the subs bro.

Wasn't bad advice to tell someone that has no knowledge of car audio. It's the safe thing I'd recommend. Most people leave the shop and turn it and the bass boost up wondering why I didn't use it.

Have you replaced the factory door speakers? If you haven't definitely do so, it will make the overall sound much better. You dont need an amp for them either. I can recommend some speakers if you need me to.

Your installer tapped into your rear door speakers for the input on your amp if you find the bases rolling off as you turn up the volume you might look in to getting a loc line out converter that is that has a compensation for roll off the lc2i pro you can find it just over 100 bucks and you can set a threshold to where that roll-off stops.

Definitely said he changed the exhaust. Definitely said he debadged it. Definitely said it was ordered special... And it looked pretty manual to me to not come with one.
Q, man, it's always tough to come with a critique because then everyone thinks you're just hating on them rather than trying to help. But if I can help someone out I will. So without trying to disrespect your friend too much I gotta say he either needs to step up his game or you need to find a different installer for your electronics. Now, he may know a lot more than he showed in this video but if so he didn't apply that knowledge to your ride. In a rather simple setup like you got here what he did will work and get you by. But this is just that, a "get you by" level of work. And that includes your light bar wiring. That relay for your light bar should be mounted and fused. It may be fused (hard to tell in the video) but it's just dangling off the terminal block. Not at all professional level. And though it was hard to tell if the amp run from the battery was fused, if it wasn't it needs to be. We didn't see the final wire management under hood but judging by the light bar wiring I don't have high hopes. Were the gains set properly or just cranked as if they are volume controls? A little too far on a sub will be alright but a bit too much and it won't take long to tear it up. Some folks know enough to make things works and in some situations that can be good enough. But in some cases that can be dangerous. Other times people know how to do things correctly but will do as little as they can get away with. I don't know what the case might be with this gentleman but he's charging professional shop levels of cash for work that is far below professional shop standards.
Preciate the info. We actually ran into some other issues so definitely has me thinking. He didn’t do my lightbar it was done by a shop and they did a good job. Not sure if it’s fused. Definitely don’t think it’s hating at all. You are the 3rd person to say something about this. Preciate the insight man.
@@KickinItWithQ Hey, no problem. I worked as an installer back in my senior year of high school and first year of college. Even so I hate to be too harsh when commenting because sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what was done on a quick video. Also, not everything he said was wrong. In fact, you could hook up another sub to the unused pair of channels. Though the 1000 watts max is a marketing gimmick too many manufacturers still use, Pioneer's continuous rating for this amp is 190 watts per channel in bridged mode which is what you have. So that would give you 380 continuous watts if all channels were bridged running to two subs. Which is well within the fused rating of 50 amps. Pioneer has always made reliable and usually accurately rated (at least when judged by their real ratings, not the marketing "MAX" ratings) so I'd expect you're getting somewhere around that 200 watt per bridged channel output when fully cranked. The sub is rated for 300 watts continuous so it could handle a little more but the difference wouldn't be dramatic, say 1.5 DB louder in a perfect world. But that's based on theory that doesn't always translate into actual measurements. Keep the volume sane and if the gains are set right it should last you a while. But hey, I blew up more than a few subs back when I knew just enough to be dangerous. Lol. That is a badass truck you've got there, by the way.
Nice! I want to upgrade my stock subwoofer! I have a set of shallow kickers and a jl amp from back in the days lol just gotta figure out how to wire from my stock amp.
Good video man. I would suggest changing the door speakers too. they are cheap enough on Amazon and the difference in sound is noticeable. The stock ones are plastic baskets and have tiny magnets

That’s definitely price change and I wouldn’t recommend this anymore. It blew like month later and customer service was terrible. I switched to JL audio.

@@KickinItWithQ that's the best way at times. Sucks that you waste time and money but sometimes that's best lesson learned. If you want a cheap amp that does power look into audiopipe. If you want to spend more there is dd,sundown,Orion,dc and few others but you will need bigger cable, electrical upgrades... Battery/ies, alternator, big 3 wiring etc. Let me Know if u have any questions or need any help
I have 2 12' Sealed subs in my f150. I used to have a jeep and I had a system in there too, (2 15' ported). So this is a big downgrade on my side, but I want to upgrade my f150 speakers to 2 12' ported, so itll get those low freq better

i have 2 of those subs behind the back seat of my 2016 f150 on an 1100 watt boss amp. pretty happy with it as well.

He literally took it to a professional installer lol.. And you dont always need to upgrade the alternator. Only if your pushing over 2000 watts

I really suggest you get someone to set your gain properly on that amp. Or you can google how to set your gains with a multimeter. When he told you to back it down if the protect light comes on.. man I almost lost it.
Wasn't bad advice to tell someone that has no knowledge of car audio. It's the safe thing I'd recommend. Most people leave the shop and turn it and the bass boost up wondering why I didn't use it.
Is ignition wire (white/ orange stripe) safe to tap into? ie, won’t throw a code? If so, just saved the f-150 world a TON of headaches, re amps

Have you replaced the factory door speakers? If you haven't definitely do so, it will make the overall sound much better. You dont need an amp for them either. I can recommend some speakers if you need me to.

Your installer tapped into your rear door speakers for the input on your amp if you find the bases rolling off as you turn up the volume you might look in to getting a loc line out converter that is that has a compensation for roll off the lc2i pro you can find it just over 100 bucks and you can set a threshold to where that roll-off stops.

Surprised you didn't put at least the amp in the back. Love your content, have a 2017 2.7. Have you gotten the latch for the backseat(drivers side)? Once you do that, you may feel like moving at least the amp back there.

That installer seems to be on some bs tho, cuz as far as I know over here in europe M6’s come with 4 tailpipes, M badges in the interior and do not come with a manual transmission. But oh well as long as he’s happy :)

Q, man, it's always tough to come with a critique because then everyone thinks you're just hating on them rather than trying to help. But if I can help someone out I will. So without trying to disrespect your friend too much I gotta say he either needs to step up his game or you need to find a different installer for your electronics. Now, he may know a lot more than he showed in this video but if so he didn't apply that knowledge to your ride. In a rather simple setup like you got here what he did will work and get you by. But this is just that, a "get you by" level of work. And that includes your light bar wiring. That relay for your light bar should be mounted and fused. It may be fused (hard to tell in the video) but it's just dangling off the terminal block. Not at all professional level. And though it was hard to tell if the amp run from the battery was fused, if it wasn't it needs to be. We didn't see the final wire management under hood but judging by the light bar wiring I don't have high hopes. Were the gains set properly or just cranked as if they are volume controls? A little too far on a sub will be alright but a bit too much and it won't take long to tear it up. Some folks know enough to make things works and in some situations that can be good enough. But in some cases that can be dangerous. Other times people know how to do things correctly but will do as little as they can get away with. I don't know what the case might be with this gentleman but he's charging professional shop levels of cash for work that is far below professional shop standards.

Definitely don’t think it’s hating at all. You are the 3rd person to say something about this. Preciate the insight man.
@@KickinItWithQ Hey, no problem. I worked as an installer back in my senior year of high school and first year of college. Even so I hate to be too harsh when commenting because sometimes it's hard to tell exactly what was done on a quick video. Also, not everything he said was wrong. In fact, you could hook up another sub to the unused pair of channels. Though the 1000 watts max is a marketing gimmick too many manufacturers still use, Pioneer's continuous rating for this amp is 190 watts per channel in bridged mode which is what you have. So that would give you 380 continuous watts if all channels were bridged running to two subs. Which is well within the fused rating of 50 amps. Pioneer has always made reliable and usually accurately rated (at least when judged by their real ratings, not the marketing "MAX" ratings) so I'd expect you're getting somewhere around that 200 watt per bridged channel output when fully cranked. The sub is rated for 300 watts continuous so it could handle a little more but the difference wouldn't be dramatic, say 1.5 DB louder in a perfect world. But that's based on theory that doesn't always translate into actual measurements. Keep the volume sane and if the gains are set right it should last you a while. But hey, I blew up more than a few subs back when I knew just enough to be dangerous. Lol. That is a badass truck you've got there, by the way.

Good video man. I would suggest changing the door speakers too. they are cheap enough on Amazon and the difference in sound is noticeable. The stock ones are plastic baskets and have tiny magnets

That’s definitely price change and I wouldn’t recommend this anymore. It blew like month later and customer service was terrible. I switched to JL audio.

If you want to spend more there is dd,sundown,Orion,dc and few others but you will need bigger cable, electrical upgrades... Battery/ies, alternator, big 3 wiring etc. Let me Know if u have any questions or need any help

I have 2 12' Sealed subs in my f150. I used to have a jeep and I had a system in there too, (2 15' ported). So this is a big downgrade on my side, but I want to upgrade my f150 speakers to 2 12' ported, so itll get those low freq better
