FYI, if your head unit doesn't have pre-amp RCA output, the TS-WX130DA can take the input from the speaker wires. I tapped the rear left and right door speaker wires, convert the speaker wire to RCA using a speaker-to-(male)RCA adapter, and finally, connect those RCA cables to the subwoofer.
@nhatqtran that's great to know, thanks for sharing. I'm just wondering does this then affect the rear speakers volume? Or do they still operate as per usual? Cheers!!!
@@harryhayes2048 I'm speculating that the tap doesn't affect the sound of the tapped speaker since the subwoofer is only using that tap as a sound signal, and not using it to power the subwoofer speaker. The amp in the subwoofer drives the subwoofer speaker based on that input sound signal.
You can splice the subwoofer into your speaker wires from your head unit. You don't have to use RCA outputs. From Crutchfield: . "If you're connecting to a factory radio (or a radio without RCA outputs), you can cut the RCA plugs off of the input harness and splice it to the speaker wires." I just installed this sub, cut off the RCAs and wired the input cables to both rear speakers. The sub wouldn't power on though. Ran a remote wire to the accessory wire and it powers on but extremely low volume. Changed the input switch to RCA and all of a sudden it works perfectly sounds great. Hey, it's a phase control. From the Goog: "Phase control adjusts how the speaker extends and contracts. Since subwoofer sound waves are very large, you can get overlaps in a room that cause nulls in the sound. Switching the phase can eliminate these nulls."
Car manufacturers should just have this preinstalled... Edit: obviously as an option. I know they got Bose and Infiniti speakers upgrades but subs are still always missing
Every car I have owned has had a sub. 03 Tiburon GT 8" rear sub, 08 G37s 2X 10" Bose door subs, 09 FJ cruiser 8" rear sub. None of these cars are that expensive, most higher trims of cars have an option for a subwoofer.
@@marksjdejong a legit aftermarket option though I'm sure the ones that come with cars are pretty shatty or it might just be a bigger speaker that they use as a subwoofer but it's not built to be a subwoofer like the aftermarket ones are
@@davidgomez5116 they definitely were all subwoofers, proper cross overs, dual coil low ohm rating and a separate amp for the subwoofer. Have you been in many cars with stock subs? That being said my FJ had a horrible stock subwoofer. I put an 8" slim pioneer sub that runs off the two stock 30 watt rms toyota amps (it has half the impedance as the stock sub so peak wattage is doubled and pounds, ill make a video on it)
I'd put a multi meter/test light on the connection end to sub just to make sure you're getting power from 12v+ (checked fuse ok?) and the signal wire. Then confirm your earth is good. If the sub powers up I'd then be looking at your signal input to make sure that is correct.
The TS-WX130DA has a 10Amp fuse. Instead of connecting the yellow wire (hot wire) to the battery, would it be simpler to connect it to an interior accessory fuse with a 10Amp or higher?
You could, just you're adding to that circuit that may for example already be using 5amps, sub full draw is 10amp so could be popping fuses. I just have always prefered to run subs direct :)
Hi, great video :), i installed a portable sub in my car, when the car is in accessory mode or in idle the sub sounds pretty good, but once i start driving the sub sounds really weak, any idea on what might be affecting it. Installed in a Toyota Camry

@@VideoShowMeHow no the sub does not show any sign of life. I took the sub out of the radio over rca and set the switch on the back of the sub to rca as well. Also tried connecting the blue cable to both blue cables out of my radio.

All good, it's all learning! The sub out will be for plugging directly to an amp. Good news is you've got options. I would just use the left and right RCA outputs, easiest :)

thank you for the video. but i can't connect rca cables to my head unit. so I would cut them and put a high speaker adapter in between. but is it enough to only connect the front left / right or do the rear ones also have to be added?
All you have to do is strip the audio jacks down to the two wires inside. They're just fancy connectors and any unwanted sound can be phased out with any decent amp
Hey mate. Got it all connected and when I turn the key on there is no light popping up on the remote and it’s not getting any power to the system, yellow wire is running straight to battery black is going to the seat for the ground and blue is going to the back of the head unit

Hi awsome video very clear instructions, however the sub out port from head unit you had a black cable that was not in your tray. Did you buy this as a extra?
Yeah I needed too as the head unit didn't have RCA outputs. An alternative is to use the speak wire (installed it this way in the kenwood one on the channel)
Hi. I've installed same underseat sub like yours hook up to my android player which have sub out at the back of the unit just like yours. Everything goes well and the sub turn on when I turn my engine on. But the sub didn't produce bass sound. Only normal sound. I've try to adjust the gain from the remote but seems like no effect at all. What have I done wrong?
MrStanzar you don’t have the crossover set properly. You need to filter the audio (low pass x-over) you’re currently running full range through your sub.
I did yes (head unit only had a single RCA out), this will dependant on your headunit. If no RCA you can always use the speak wire signal option, I cover this install method in the Kenwood sub install on the channel
Mine was working sweet for like a month but now there’s a rattle inside the cone I’m guessing, iv pulled it apart to pin point the rattle and it comes from inside the cone and the sub speaker thing if that makes sense (iv checked all screws and if cords are touching it but I have no idea)
Just depends on your head unit, for this headunit I needed an RCA splitter as it only had one output. You can use the other method to get your signal by using the actual speaker wire - I used this method in the Kenwood install, vid on the channel also
@@VideoShowMeHow yeah I have a Pioneer head unit so it’s easier to just get a RCA cable. The head unit came with the harness to plug into the back to connect the sun.
Hey VideoShowMeHow, just a little confused by someone else's comment below - running power from the battery and connecting the remote wire means it will not drain the battery when the car's off, right?
Kinda, you can power via the battery direct but recommend the remote wire is connected to a switch/circuit that is only powered up when you turn on the ignition. This then only powers up the sub when you have the car on and won't drain your battery. Your 12v socket is usually a got spot to piggy back off for this, just check with a test light.
Hey 👋 Unsure on the Mazda head unit but good thing is with these types of subs (is the same for the Kenwood install I did on the channel as well) is you can install via RCA or by using the existing speaker wire. So basically these will work with almost any head unit. Checkout the Kenwood install vid if you want to see it wired using the speak wires way 👍
@@VideoShowMeHow That would be something I’m not comfortable with just yet. My car has a 15A fuse for rear fogs and a 20A for deicer, neither of which my car has. Would either be safe to use?
Great video - thanks, one question with the RCA connection - did you have to purchase additional length of cable as the cable supplied is only 100mm long
Hey mate, cheers. No I didn't it ended up being more than enough for me with the sub under the drivers seat. If you were mounting it elsewhere aka the trunk/boot you'd need to get another longer one
Hi Did you purchased extra RCA cable to enable you complete your subwoofer installation? The rca cable supplied with my sub woofer is too short as well. Please let me know. Thanks.
Yeah the green one is just specific to that particular head unit. That's why I used the splitter cable. Your headunit may be slightly different however most will on have a single channel (mono) output
@@toculucian9340 If you're using the RCAs, need to make sure you use the sub out from your headunit, might be able to go into single channel on sub but would recommend using a split to go into both
@@Varus800 you would still need to send the wires to the same spots as the base loom, as in you will still need power, ground, remote etc. Can I ask why you don't want to use the stock wires that came with?
Hey there, does the back of the headunit have RCA outs? If it does the RCA splitters via eBay/Amazon or electronics stores. If no RCA output from the headunit use the second option by taping into the speaker left and right wires for the signal 👍
No probs! To get the signal for the sub you can use speaker wire instead. I talk about that method in the kenwood vid. It also shows you in the diagram on the pioneer one from memory. Let me find you a link
Video Show Me How hi I have a other question how did you ground the black cable did you just wrap the wire into a bolt? Cause the Black wire doesn’t have ring terminal
@@thenoob9739 hi, on the jeep I run a fuse block so I used that. Normally I would recommend using a ring terminal (can be bought from any auto shop) with an existing grounded bolt. Don't just wrap around a bolt, you don't want an earth coming loose. Hope that helps 😀

Hey Harrison 👋 All good just use an ignition wire/hot wire. Use a test light to find a wire that only has power when you turn the ignition on and use that 👍
I'd recommend direct battery connection for the power cable as it's potentially drawing up to 10amps. Or if you wanted to be fancy could connect into a spare port in fuse box and fuse that way 👌

I've got my TS-WX130DA coming in tomorrow, but I'm just a bit apprehensive when it comes to the yellow wire. How did you fit that through your firewall? I would've thought you'd push the white connector through and then pull blue and black all the way back into the cabin alongside the connector. But in your case the blue was already wired, and there's no way to fit the fuse holder through one of those grommets - or does the fuse holder come off (that'd be a lifesaver for me as well)?

@@VideoShowMeHow yeah the amp is to power some additional speakers that I've added I just noticed that the power wires are a pretty thin gauge so what I was going to do was just connected them togther before the fuse then run a single wire to the battery
I got the pioneer gm-d1004 compact amp
Hi, i had an edge 750 watts active subwoofer but its been taking to much boot Space so i ordered the pionier, the question is can i use the same wiring i had for the edge?
Can't see why not, the pioneer is less power than what you had so that wiring should be fine 👍
Just ordered two of the 130EA based off of your videos.
Thanks for the content!
I'm hoping two of these should be more than enough for a single cab truck.
Enjoy!
How is it?
Hi - very interestting video - I’ve just purchased the pioneer subwoofer. On my head unit I have a single wire only which is labelled subwoofer line out, so was wondering how I can connect that to the 2 RCA connections supplied with the amplifier. Much appreciate it if you can help to provide some guidance, as at a loss how to do it.
You can connect via speaker wire, checkout the Kenwood install, shows this method 👍
@@VideoShowMeHow Thanks alot for the super quick response - much appreciated 👍 That clears the point in my mind now to be able get the install tackled - super video!!!!
hi whats that 2nd dial for below the bass level? thanks
Hey, it's a phase control. From the Goog: "Phase control adjusts how the speaker extends and contracts. Since subwoofer sound waves are very large, you can get overlaps in a room that cause nulls in the sound. Switching the phase can eliminate these nulls."
did u use a y connector to connect the sub RCA ? there are also left and right out for the RCA, do u just leave them out ?
Great video one question though i bought a car witch has the sound system wire it it for a monster but want to know if i can re use any of it
Thanks 👍 You might be able to use some of it, I'd recommend checking out what wires go where, might save you needing to route new ones
Car manufacturers should just have this preinstalled...
Edit: obviously as an option. I know they got Bose and Infiniti speakers upgrades but subs are still always missing
Completely agree!!
I put an 8" slim pioneer sub that runs off the two stock 30 watt rms toyota amps (it has half the impedance as the stock sub so peak wattage is doubled and pounds, ill make a video on it)
Easiest and most helpful video I’ve found online. Thanks mate 👍🏽👍🏽
👌
Do you also hook up your existing car speakers on this amp?
How long does it take it approximately? 3-4 hours?
Hey 👋 Yeah about that. Just depends how many beer breaks 👍
@@VideoShowMeHow and also on skills and tools.
Hey mate, literraly did everything u did in the vid, yet im still getying no power to the sub? Any advice
I'd put a multi meter/test light on the connection end to sub just to make sure you're getting power from 12v+ (checked fuse ok?) and the signal wire. Then confirm your earth is good. If the sub powers up I'd then be looking at your signal input to make sure that is correct.
Great video! Where did you get the splitter cable thats in between the radio subwoofer plug in and the red/white plugs?
Jaycar but can find online ebay/amazon :)
the yellow wire can be connected to the power wire from headunit? Is it enough power supply?
Hey mate, would depend on the head unit but I would doubt it would have enough
The TS-WX130DA has a 10Amp fuse. Instead of connecting the yellow wire (hot wire) to the battery, would it be simpler to connect it to an interior accessory fuse with a 10Amp or higher?
You could, just you're adding to that circuit that may for example already be using 5amps, sub full draw is 10amp so could be popping fuses. I just have always prefered to run subs direct :)
Can the yellow power wire be connected to the yellow or red wire that powers the head unit?
Yeah it could but your amp would always be on as that is a constant power feed
Hi, great video :), i installed a portable sub in my car, when the car is in accessory mode or in idle the sub sounds pretty good, but once i start driving the sub sounds really weak, any idea on what might be affecting it. Installed in a Toyota Camry
I would prob suggest the extra road noise etc makes it seem less loud. I guess these are never going to be the same as a bigger sub and amp... Maybe you just need a second one 😁
As I just mentioned Camry I saw this. Hm
Hi =), i am french so its a little bit complicated for me to understand when it comes to the yellow cable. How can i plug it to my battery ? hope you can help me, thank you.
i have a peugeot 107 by the way
I did this the exact same way and upon first contact my battery appeared flat and the speaker plopped. After tightening the bolts on the battery a bit harder the battery was fine but the speaker is doing nothing. I've set the setting correct on the radio as well. Getting no power / signal light what so ever. Any idea what might have happened?
Did you take the speaker wire as your signal method? Does the sub power up?
@@VideoShowMeHow no the sub does not show any sign of life. I took the sub out of the radio over rca and set the switch on the back of the sub to rca as well. Also tried connecting the blue cable to both blue cables out of my radio.
@@VideoShowMeHow Fixed it. It appears there was something wrong with the "-" connector. Thanks anyway :)
Ah great news 👏
Why is it recommended to tap straight into the battery and not a fuse tap?
You're drawing up to 10amps, prefer it's own connection/conductor
Hi... I’m such an amateur when it comes to things like this. I’m worried I’d break something. Okay so... I have a Sony radio and at the back it has left and right ports for an RCA cable. But, it also has a ‘sub rear audio out’ I’m slightly confused by it. Do I just use the left and right ones?
All good, it's all learning! The sub out will be for plugging directly to an amp. Good news is you've got options. I would just use the left and right RCA outputs, easiest :)
Video Show Me How Thank you. 😊
Can this kind of sub burn out an alternator or battery? I own a Grande punto which has a small altenator and i already have aftermarket speakers and stereo. I am afraid of the purchase since i dont want to see any dimming lights or headlights in the car
Nah will be fine
Hey man, just wondering how and where you ran the wires to tidy it all up??
Hey, mainly just run under carpet etc to keep all tidy 👍
thank you for the video. but i can't connect rca cables to my head unit. so I would cut them and put a high speaker adapter in between. but is it enough to only connect the front left / right or do the rear ones also have to be added?
All you have to do is strip the audio jacks down to the two wires inside. They're just fancy connectors and any unwanted sound can be phased out with any decent amp
Hey mate. Got it all connected and when I turn the key on there is no light popping up on the remote and it’s not getting any power to the system, yellow wire is running straight to battery black is going to the seat for the ground and blue is going to the back of the head unit
Fuse in? I'd grab a test light make sure there's power coming to the unit
@@VideoShowMeHow hey on the back of my head unit there isn’t a blue wire should I just tap into something else to get the unit to turn on
Yeah could tap into a circuit that only has power when the car is on. I'd use a test light in your fuse box to find one then use an 'add a fuse' like I've used in the spotlight videos
I can’t find those black RCA cables anywhere...
Here you are: amzn.to/2OAbqhk
Nice video. Thanks.
One question though: did you require a 2:1 RCA lead?
Looks like you went from red/white to a single black connection?
Cheers
I did yes (head unit only had a single RCA out), this will dependant on your headunit. If no RCA you can always use the speak wire signal option, I cover this install method in the Kenwood sub install on the channel
Mine was working sweet for like a month but now there’s a rattle inside the cone I’m guessing, iv pulled it apart to pin point the rattle and it comes from inside the cone and the sub speaker thing if that makes sense (iv checked all screws and if cords are touching it but I have no idea)
Ah bummer! Warranty return?
But then again I don’t know much about speakers cause the quality is still sweet just has a little rattle, would be mad if I could fix it
It's not clipping is it? Does it rattle at medium volume?
Yeah, only when I start to turn the volume up
The cone might be damaged :(
Hang on, I’ve just realised there’s an RCA cable that goes from the head unit to the sub that’s not supplied with the sub? Is that correct?
Just depends on your head unit, for this headunit I needed an RCA splitter as it only had one output. You can use the other method to get your signal by using the actual speaker wire - I used this method in the Kenwood install, vid on the channel also
@@VideoShowMeHow yeah I have a Pioneer head unit so it’s easier to just get a RCA cable. The head unit came with the harness to plug into the back to connect the sun.
@@VideoShowMeHow all good, I’m out in the sticks so just have to order one into the closest Repco.
@@VideoShowMeHow if I follow your instructions in the video (I've already watched it once haha) I should be good, yeah?
@@mattmcilwhan yep you're gold 🤘 If you're unsure turn the car off and see if the lights turn off on the sub. But you should be good
@@VideoShowMeHow absolute legend.
I am using RCA outs on back of head unit but I don't have a remote port, any ideas ?
Wanna get one for my Mazda CX-9, but want to keep the stock head look, does the stock one support this sub?
Hey 👋 Unsure on the Mazda head unit but good thing is with these types of subs (is the same for the Kenwood install I did on the channel as well) is you can install via RCA or by using the existing speaker wire. So basically these will work with almost any head unit. Checkout the Kenwood install vid if you want to see it wired using the speak wires way 👍
Why does power wire need to go directly to the battery but not say a wire tap to the fuse box inside the cabin?
Because the sub can draw up to 10 amps so you're best to give it is own feed as recommended by Pioneer 👍 Hope this helps 🙂
@ekim andersom assuming he meant 100cm :)
@@VideoShowMeHow No the cable supplied with my unit (just purchased) only had a 10cm (100mm) RCA cable so we needed to purchase a longer RCA cable.
Hi
Did you purchased extra RCA cable to enable you complete your subwoofer installation? The rca cable supplied with my sub woofer is too short as well. Please let me know. Thanks.
Dan Dan yes it cost me about $11 for 5 mtr cable and it did the job
hi, this is my question...u have the green one for SUB OUT , but in your amplifier goes 2 channels in (left and right)... ? is a special cable ? or?
Yeah the green one is just specific to that particular head unit. That's why I used the splitter cable. Your headunit may be slightly different however most will on have a single channel (mono) output
@@VideoShowMeHow thank you verry much, i have a green one, this mean i need a splitter cable, or i connect to Signal out (left and right)
@@toculucian9340 If you're using the RCAs, need to make sure you use the sub out from your headunit, might be able to go into single channel on sub but would recommend using a split to go into both

Hey can I use a amp wiring kit for this subwoofer or do I have to use the kit included
Hey, you could, but you will need to use the connectors for the sub/amp. You could splice in other wire for sure. Would you want to though?

@@Varus800 you would still need to send the wires to the same spots as the base loom, as in you will still need power, ground, remote etc. Can I ask why you don't want to use the stock wires that came with?
Video Show Me How oh I wanted to do it because I bought the subwoofer 2nd hand and it didn’t come with that wiring kit
Very clear how to. Did you secure it under the seat or it it left loose?
cheers mate. yep used two of the brackets that came with and used existing bolt under the seat to secure :)
Where can u get those rca wiring harness's from? Im trying to install into my 79 series, i have an aftermarket stereo but don have rcas like you do
Hey there, does the back of the headunit have RCA outs? If it does the RCA splitters via eBay/Amazon or electronics stores. If no RCA output from the headunit use the second option by taping into the speaker left and right wires for the signal 👍
@@VideoShowMeHow im super new to this. My bad, but by taping into the left and right speakers, what do you mean?
No probs! To get the signal for the sub you can use speaker wire instead. I talk about that method in the kenwood vid. It also shows you in the diagram on the pioneer one from memory. Let me find you a link
@@VideoShowMeHow cheers thanks bro
Here you go, P2, speaker inline input method 👌 www.pioneer.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/TS-WX130DA-User-Manual.pdf
Can I wire the yellow wire into my fuse box if so which fuse do I tap it into
Hey, I'd recommend running seperate, otherwise you could be compromising another circuit. Does that make sense?
Video Show Me How hi I have a other question how did you ground the black cable did you just wrap the wire into a bolt? Cause the Black wire doesn’t have ring terminal
@@thenoob9739 hi, on the jeep I run a fuse block so I used that. Normally I would recommend using a ring terminal (can be bought from any auto shop) with an existing grounded bolt. Don't just wrap around a bolt, you don't want an earth coming loose. Hope that helps 😀
where did you get that extra RCA cable (the black with the three connector)
Just my local electronics store. Amazon/eBay would sort you out also 😁

What's the use of the frequency in remote and what frequency is recommended?
Basically sets your low pass filter cut off.. sets what freq for the sub to play. The lower the hertz means it will only play the deep sounds. Personal preference :)

Nice!
Great Video mate. Does it make any difference using gold plated phono RCA? thanks
Nah

What's the difference between the DA and the EA version of this sub? I just know that the EA one doesn't come with a remote but.. is there a different in sound quality or something?
No difference in sound quality. You get the exact same unit whether you buy the EA or DA. As you noted, you just don't get the remote if you buy the EA.

Hey mate, I'm planning to install this subwoofer in my car with the stock head unit and a line output converter. How should I adjust the gain on the line output converter or the best setting for this sub ? Like the gain, frequency, phase and bass mode on the remote as well. Thanks !
Thanks for a great video and ur thumbs up on the unit. I have 2 x 12's in my car but my daughter doesn't have the room. Hopefully she is happy with the level of Bass available. It sounded pretty good from UA-cam. I like ur EDM and Shuffle video soundtrack!!
Ah 2x 12s would be tasty! Especially if pumping out some Melbourne shuffle mixes 😁
@@VideoShowMeHow Love the Melbourne Shuffle vids and sounds. That was actually my catalyst for installation in the first place.

At the beginning when you object to the blue ‘amp connect’ wire. What is another option if your head unit doesn’t have any spare wires coming out the back like that 😅
Hey Harrison 👋 All good just use an ignition wire/hot wire. Use a test light to find a wire that only has power when you turn the ignition on and use that 👍
@@VideoShowMeHow thanks for the reply! Could I do that with the yellow power cable too? And connect in the fuse box with a piggy back connector ?
I'd recommend direct battery connection for the power cable as it's potentially drawing up to 10amps. Or if you wanted to be fancy could connect into a spare port in fuse box and fuse that way 👌
I have one of these but mu problem is since i fix my car removed the negative on the battery and put back on then i turn on the music its not working anymore. I dont know how to bring it back.
Great video man doing one tomorrow and you really made it simple 👍👍👍👍
I've got my TS-WX130DA coming in tomorrow, but I'm just a bit apprehensive when it comes to the yellow wire. How did you fit that through your firewall? I would've thought you'd push the white connector through and then pull blue and black all the way back into the cabin alongside the connector. But in your case the blue was already wired, and there's no way to fit the fuse holder through one of those grommets - or does the fuse holder come off (that'd be a lifesaver for me as well)?
Fuse holder should come off :)
