Terrific review of this 2021 BMC Teammachine SLR Two. I’m week 2 into a 2021 TM SLR One (not SLR01). Different drivetrain (SRAM Force AXS), wheels (BMC carbon climbers), stem, and colors. Same everything else. It’s a great ride with outstanding vertical compliance so I’m not beat up. Slightly more relaxed geometry than a Tarmac or Addict (both of which I tested), but not as much as a BMC Roadmachine. For someone who is well past racing age, but still likes to go fast, it’s perfect. Could do with better tires than Rubino’s though. BMC puts out a great product.
@@lunathedog3924 - overall very pleased with Force AXS. It's my first time with any SRAM drivetrain after nearly 4 decades of Campy. For the first several hundred miles, I had occasional FD chain drops, but it turns out the FD wasn't installed precisely right by either the manufacturer or the shop. After following the very detailed and clear instructions that SRAM provides, no more drops (though I also installed a chain catcher too just in case). Because it's a completely wireless system, there is a noticeable (but not terrible) delay in shifting (more FD than RD), but one gets used to that quickly. The customization (multiple RD shifts, compensated FD shift) allowed by the AXS system is great. I'd go with it if you are considering.
Beautiful bike and frame colour,i agree the closed side of the through axel looks really neat and clean, great bike review they're always a pleasure to watch.
Thanks so much David! Love your reviews, from all the ones I've see on the Teammachine, yours is the most comprehensive an thorough and pushed me over the edge of buying my SLR Two. Great bike, I really love it!
Thank you for the review! I've just bought it yesterday and I have to say that your review is on spot! Wheels and tires definitely need an upgrade while the rest is just very, very good.
Ignoring value for money and equipment missing on the Bmc, how does it ride compared to the Giant Tcr for example. Do they ride similar in terms of comfort, handling , climbing and carrying their speed Am I right in thinking that there is very little to choose between these modern aero lightweight bikes and it really comes down to personal choice , availability, local back up and budget Thanks for the review, am a long time rider of Bmc Slr02 but likely a tcr frame set will be my next move 👍
Just bought this bike yesterday to complement my Giant Defy. Now I have a Ferrari and a Cadillac! I'm also 5'11" and got the 56, fits like a glove, and I love it!
Thanks for the review. I have lusted after a BMC for years, but I guess the Roadmachine is a better fit for a less aggressive position. Really appreciate the details and recommendations in your review
Bought exact model a month ago. Love it so far, your review is spot on with my experience, the bike just wants to go when you put any power down. Nice review!
I've been really considering a BMC as my next upgrade, i've already got a set of 50mm rims i can put on it, so the 'poor' standard wheel setup isnt a huge issue.
Was really looking forward to this review, as always, well done David! Is the TCR Advance Pro Disc 1 comparable to this BMC or does one have the edge over the other ?
I remember the sure footed handling yes. Almost boring sometimes but makes you feel very very confident on the bike. Its a dilemma sometimes, quicker or more relax handling... I think its because of the loner wheelbase ... Thanks
I often think of getting a new bike, and your reviews are super helpful. And while this one looks like a great bike, it's heavier than my 2006 Orbea Orca. So I guess I'll be waiting for a little while longer.
Have been using my BMC SLR02 2016 with rim brakes across all terrains as a do it all bike....the only reason to change would be to move to disc brakes or to get a lighter overall bike...but those reasons aren't quite enough yet...its still a great bike that balances speed and comfort.
Hi David, I'm torn between the BMC Teammachine SLR Five (105 di2) or the Cannondale Supersix Evo 3 (105 di2), would you say one has any strong advantage over the other? Does the Cannondale feel racer due to the increased rake and harsher head tube angel, or is either actually faster than the other? Any help hugely appreciated!!
David, great review. I was able to pick up a 2022 SLR Six model recently and really love it. A question below is asked about using a trainer on this bike that does not have the axle exposed on one side. I will assume a "wheel on" trainer would not be a go with this bike (I have a wheel on trainer for my other BMC which works well). Does a ""direct drive/wheel off" trainer allow this bike to be used with a trainer? Can you confirm? if so, is there a "wheel off" trainer you recommend? Cheers mate.
I have the 2020 Teammachine ALR, I would absolutely recommend it. For well under €2000 you get a great bike with a premium feel to it. I can't compare it to the SLR version, but I recognize many of the points about ride feel of the SLR which are mentioned in the video in my bike as well.
Hi David. Thanks for the video of the new bmc Road bike. I am looking to upgrade my trek sl5 2021 for a newer bike. Would you recommend this new bmc road bike. Many thanks Richard
Hi David. Would you choose a 2020 SLR01 second-hand frame or a new 2021 SLR? (similar price). Thanks! (and how the 2021 model is supposed to be used with an indoor trainer with these non-exposed thru-axles?)
Was waiting for your BMC rewiev. If you should choose one bike for yourself, would that be this BMC Teamachine or Scott addict RC you tested some time ago? And why? Thank you
You say the size 56 frame works great for your height. I am the same height maybe a little taller. I have a 54cm frame coming soon. What’s your thoughts on a slightly smaller frame.

I was looking for one of these couple of days ago and found a 2020 but it is all disc brakes so according to his input here that was the only difference so then the 2020 and 2021 disc brakes are the same then?
The 2021 model year bike (launched in 2020) had quite a few differences and improvements from the previous generation which was available with rim brakes but it’s still a very good bike
i have the SLR Three that comes with ultegra disc, stock alloy wheels does give me rough ride feel but once i change to my carbon wheels and upgrade to 28c pirelli tires the ride becomes buttery smooth~ as good as my sworks tarmac sl6~

Nice looking bike, but I’d expect carbon wheels for that price! Also, I thought disc brake bikes allowed clearance for wider tyres? I can get a 30 or possibly a 32 in my 5 year old rim brake Caad12. However, even 28mm is too wide for road imo.
Nice review David, but I would disagree with you about stiffness, as a owner of teammachine slr02 disc 2020 in the past and current owner of trek madone slr I can say that BMC is plastic-fantastic. Like an old sofa with pretty no character in my opinion, it’s fast but not enough, stiff for climbing but not enough and a bit heavy. Did not ride slr01, may be it will be better. Thank you. Max

As for the lack of exposed thru-axle in the rear, would this impede you from using the bike in an indoor trainer?
I wouldn't think so since you're not using a skewer. The through axle would still screw in like normal
A "wheel on" trainer, yes, definitely.
