I love using UA-cam for jobs I am unsure about, hands down this is a great video guys. Thanks for your time in sharing with us.
One pliers wrench, one allen key after 20 minutes it's done. Super easy and for 8 € !!
Thank you very much, your tutorial was very useful
Thank you for the wonderful tutorial, and THE TOOL!!! Arrived promptly, and got the job done in 10mins. Incredibly well thought out tool.
you just made scotty kilmer jealous ;)
For those wondering, the little black canister is the fuel tank breather vacuum valve.
Thank you so much..mi bought your belt tool and it's spot on.....!!!...my issue is my standard 3 legged puller won't get the crank pulley off (which has failed..)...can you help?...kind regards Martyn
Just found another way to change a belt on an 05base cooper, there is a belt tension adjuster available in most auto parts stores that is a flat bar with a three eights inch square knob on it that does not ratchet. These are typically 12 to 16 inches long. It will fit in the square hole on the tensioner. The problem is you can’t put the bar in from the front of the engine and get the lift on tensioner to remove or install the belt.
If you work this flat bar in from the backside of the engine and insert it in the square hole on the belt tensioner you can push down on the bar from the back of the engine to raise the tensioner. Yippee!!!!
The other cool thing is in the rear hatch where the jack and lug wrench are stored for the Cooper, underneath the Jack is a Z-shaped Allen wrench. This Allen wrench can be inserted in the tensioner hole to lock the tensioner in the raised position. This will allow you to put the new belt on.
The steps above need to be completed before removing the old belt and installing the new belt. Remember the tensioner bar needs to be removed from the square hole first or you won’t get the belt on. After new belt is installed re insert the fat bar from rear of engine to release pressure on the Allen wrench holding the tensioner up and remove it then gradually return the tensioner to down position.
Using this process you don’t need to remove the inner fender well, the front bumper or radiator support or the front wheel. I discovered this process while working in emergency roadside repair. Will try to post some pictures and maybe a video explaining it later. Good luck
thanks for the post - happy for you add things if there is a better way
Great vid.. i didnt have the tool but use a bottle jack between the sub frame & tensioner 👌
Wow surprised there was room in there for the jack !
@L663 yes but only just with a 2 tonne bottle jack 🤗
Good video - what's wrong with using a socket ratchet to turn the tensioner - there is a square cutout on it for that purpose?
apparently it wont fit as solid parts of the car are in the way
Brilliant video going to buy it tomorrow and get mine done.
Great video thanks. Just bought your tools.
I need to change the tensioner. How much harder is that to do. I’ve already got your special tools.
Just so no one is misinformed when obtaining the poly belt, Its actually called a drive belt, not an alternator belt, since it drives more than just the alternator.
Thanks very much for the tip 👍
No problem 👍
Well done. My belt broke or disintegrated so it's important to change it.
mine just disintegrated
will the 1053 belt fit a 2003 Mini One R50 with AC?
Very good, u safe my day ❤️
Glad I could help
awesome video
Do they make a belt that has the sqweek removed.
hi, where do you get this tool for the threader, or what is it called
This was a good tutorial unfortunately i was unable to get a tool to pry the tensioner so i used a bar and pushed up from underneath the car and a allen key to hold in place
Thanks man! Super helpful.
If you look at the tensioner, you will see a small square cut out. You simply stick your ratchet or breaker bar in there and release the tension on the belt.
You are of course correct...but this tool in some ways is easier to use.
Hi, I ordered your kit today - thanks for the quick dispatch!! Just a quick question - when you turn the ignition off in this video, after a short pause there is a clicking mechanical sound - mine does this too, presently but I’ve only had the mini a few weeks. I take it this is a normal noise? It sounds like some kind of solenoid, do you now what it is?
The sound is at the 11:05 mark
Thanks for the order - to be honest i am not sure what the noise is but i would not worry too much.
Excelent demonstration
*USA = PowerDrive 407K6 Poly V Belt (41.45in OC 6 Rib)*
Thanks for explications !
I use a bar and jack up the tensioner, even r56 still don't need special tools
