Those ladies in sarees are expecting money just like people dressed up as super heroes in New York City loot money in dollars for taking picture with them...
Hi Karl, I loved your video. Your Hindi is excellent! I'm an American who's lived in Kolkata a long time, and have had a lot of run-ins with touts and other scammers. My two favorite incidents occurred at New Market, a massive Victorian-era building with hundreds of shops within. New Market is possibly the MOST annoying place in all of India. Standing outside are touts who carry baskets and offer to help people shop. They know exactly which shops to go to for whatever it is you need, and carry your stuff in a basket for you. You're supposed to follow them like a goat to the slaughter, and then the shopkeepers overcharge you 4x or more. Then the basket wallahs get commissions from the shopkeepers. In the rare occasions I go there, I never avail myself of basket wallahs; I know what I want and where to get it. But they won't take "no" for an answer. (Many of these touts have a decent basic education. They know the names of radioactive metals). Once, I couldn't shake a tout so I finally 'gave in.' I said I'm looking for a special metal. He assured me he can get any metal under the sun, and I said "but this is a really special one. I don't think you can get it for me." He assured me he could, and asked me the name. I replied, "Uranium-235." He looked really startled, then extremely fearful and said, "Oh no, sorry sir, I cannot get." Then he actually ran away from me! The uranium thing has worked three different times (all with different touts) for me. They all react the same. I think they envision themselves being interrogated and tortured in a police station and then spending the rest of their lives in prison. One more indecent: In 1999, a friend in USA knew I'd be returning soon and asked me to get him a sandalwood camel. So I had to go to New Market. I went into a handicraft shop, which had two workers behind the counter. One presented a hopeless-looking camel with one of the feet broken off. When I pointed out the foot problem, one replied, "That is the beauty of handicraft." Then I asked the price and they started discussing with each other how badly to cheat me. They decided to charge me four times the price. They didn't know I understood Bengali. When the guy gave me a greasy smile and told me his price, I replied, quite calmly, "Ami boka tourist na" (I'm not a stupid tourist). The both were in total shock, they behaved as if I'd sucker-punched them. Then they started protesting: "Oh no sir, you are not stupid tourist sir..." (ad infinitum, until I walked out of the shop). So, as you basically said, there are lots of ways to be rid of such people if you're creative and spontaneous enough. (Afterthought): If someone today were to ask me for a sandalwood camel, I'd just get it off Amazon India.
I'm A Yorkshire-man living in India. Over the past few years I have bought much from Amazon but recently I have been scammed by one or two of their sellers. Amazon are not easy to deal with. The other day I realized that they should call themselves scAmazon.in !!!

Som Nath but making 8rps when the mrp is 32rps does not make any difference to 99% of travelers. But the 8rps might feed a child. This happens everywhere in Asia, not just India.

The other day I realized that they should call themselves
scAmazon.in !!!
@LoHinrich I think he meant a camel carved out of sandalwood.
@@navelikhaitan8627 Ya! most of the scams are mostly in the marwadi & gujrati and parts your community living in bengal. They are making our lives hell. Get your whole tribe out & away & settle in rajasthan oasis. You marwadis are totally scammers and sell anything worthless. Fraudsters are mostly in your tribe consisting the north western India. Get educated & then be a business Walla & sell things in footpaths
This happens to Indian tourists as well but not at the same level. Karl I can finally relate as soon as you went to the touristy places in Jaipur. XD
Am I the only foreigner here who feels that the Indians are doing nothing wrong? Maybe that's the only way for them to survive due to a lack of education.
Rocco Rocco i aam indian but this is not a justification to cheat people
Som Nath but making 8rps when the mrp is 32rps does not make any difference to 99% of travelers. But the 8rps might feed a child. This happens everywhere in Asia, not just India.
I feel the same....too, i think this was due to their lack of knowledge of proper education...have a nice day
You try going to Agra or Jaipur... Or better yet, go to a holy city like Haridwar or Varanasi. Walk around the ghats and temples, be hassled by touts and beggars for a couple of days. Then come back and say they're doing nothing wrong :)
Living the experience before complaining about it goes both ways :)
#karlrock India needs more like you! You are savage man! Love.
Ha ha. Good video bro ! Please troll the touts some more !!
Awesome revenge karl... No one can scam you in India now you are so indian now, now you can scam the scammer's... Very good... 👌🤙✌️💐🙏🇮🇳💖🤝🤘👍

I've been to this exact place!! I was there in January, we had people coming up to us asking us if we wanted to elephant rides, we realised they were extremely cruel to the animals and declined. Love your content Karl! From the UK (:
Super Awesome Man, You are doing really great. I've met many foreigners most of the time. I try to tell them about these scammers and all that But from now on i just shows them your youtube channel and they were like in awe.
Jai Mahakal.

I love how you handle these situations my friend. You approach them with class and respect even thought you know they are scammers.
Not really scammers, just trying to get food on the table, advertising isn’t scamming. Although I agree that they are quite annoying at times.

Karl you shouldn't have done that with those poor guys at the last who were trying to sell handicrafts and hats they work very hard to overcome their poverty

I am not indian, but what this guy is doing with hard working poor people is bad, cause all are not scammers, he is using his hindi speaking ability and condemn these hard working poors. Of course he is earning money, and at same time giving bad reputation to these people.
@@buddcz All I can say is, you got it wrong. Even for an Indian these touts are really tiresome. They don't leave you alone and constantly harass you. Some times they stay on your path, gang up and mislead you too. Imagine that you have deal this everyday of your vacation.

This is awesome!!!
People like you can change india
harish yadu people like him already robbed India did you know?
And by looking at those guys clicking selfies with him, I thought only uneducated Indians have inferiority complex.
well said Jahangir, This Karl even made fun of our freedom movement slogan, " Simon go back" .
Karl why will we Indians "bow down" to you white racist coloniser??
Do you think that was some fucking joke?
Karl tu angrez hai hum tere gulam nahi hai samjha.
theres a reason india as a third world country hasnt improved and looked as a shit country...simply because of people like this who rely on their past as an excuse and have the need of racism from their foolish parent's ignorant manner.Yes the british invaded, but those were the past and to grow as a country you need to link up with trade from foreign countries and grow, but india's racial acts are preventing from growing and are stuck being in shithole...and if all indians keep thinking that they will do it and not use help of foreign because of their small pride, why haven't they acclompished evolving themselves....
@jahangir khan True that bro!!
2:37 .....ayayeyaa
hahaha karlji ka kapda too good we need more foreigner like karl too good
6:28 Too bad karl! He was just trying to sell stuff. If I was him I would have felt being bullied and would have almost cried. Man poverty is bad, they go back hoping they would give something to their children but little did they know that their father was bullied for working hard.
Bruh he was a scammer he was selling it for more price ofc.
@@notyoguy How do you know if he was selling it for more than its original price? There is no fixed rate for that sculpture, it depends on the artist for how much he wants to sell. And also if you are not Indian let me tell you 20Rs for that small sculpture is actually cheap.
But need to cry , ignore such ppl and be strong
I didn’t like that, the seller must have thought they were saying his crafts are worth an empty bottle (garbage), that is why he walked away offended.
Well, they have something called privacy too!
