  • Elizabeth recently quit her job in London and is looking to downsize for a cheaper mortgage. She’s looking to move to Kent town, the trendiest place in Brighton. However, with single bed flat prices increasing 75% in 3 years, she may have to compromise on a few elements to find a place within her budget. Kirstie and Phil have the added challenge of trying to find a one-bed big enough for Elizabeth and her cat; if not then the cat is off to dads!

    I think I'd want to be assured that the source of the leak/damp had been remedied before making an offer on that apartment. It had affected more than just that one ceiling.

      I AGREE! that much moisture in the walls and the collapsed ceiling tells you the WHOLE BUILDING is compromised. The contractor who quoted $1000 was just quoting a small piece of the overall project that needs to be done and I wouldn't trust the owners of the building to properly fix the roof because they already screwed up once. She could patch that ceiling and be faced with a repeat in another 5 years or whatever. But then again, this show is staged and I think they just wanted to present the extremes of the price ranges and conditions of those houses.

    I would never consider buying a house that wouldn't allow me to keep my pet.
    That poor cat deserves a better mommy.

      She was also quite clear she wasn't its "mommy". The poor cat could definitely have a better companion.

      She also made clear that the cat could go to her father who has a wonderful garden. That actually would be the best decision for the cat, lol.

    BEAWARE of that moisture....There is probably mold under that ceiling....DANGER DANGER!!

      The building association should pay for mold remediation.

    It needs a new roof! That many tens of thousands of pounds. And the seller no doubt has insurance; so the insurance will pay for the damages. Plus the building association has a financial responsibility. My guess is the building will do a new roof. Insurance will fix the flat. And the new price will be much higher.

    The flat with the collapsed ceiling - I think going in with such a low offer may have scared the buyer,and he/she took it off the market. Maybe a discussion, with figures and info re the building solution, would have been better, rather than the risky “cheeky offer”. I don’t think “cheeky offer” is always the way to go

      To be fair, that’s what makes this show more realistic. It’s highly unlikely for a person to look at a small number of properties in a few days and actually buy it. Although
      throughout the 20 plus years this show has been on the air, they’ve been quite a few people who have bought a house that was shown on the show. And they’ve done updates on like 100 couples.

      Check the later seasons (series) - I think they are up to something like 38 seasons so far - these early ones are not as satisfying as the later ones where they almost always have at least one sale (they do 2 sets of buyers in the later ones)

      Um I would strongly recommend not watching house huntin shows if you want the prices to reflect the present day, lol. Prices always change.

      @thebadtemperedbrit Рік тому +2

      This is around 20 years ago, the start of the show, maybe series 1 or 2. I would totally disagree, just because the prices aren't current, how does that invalidate watching the show?! Sorry to sound a little scathing, but you're probably one of those people who are only interested in the value of something on The Antiques Roadshow rather than the item itself, which is a bit sad, there's more to life than just money.

    • @curiouscat3384
      @curiouscat3384 Рік тому +1

      @@thebadtemperedbrit 20 years???? How were we supposed to know that? You ARE unnecessarily scathing in this case because the price comparison between properties is RELEVANT to the topic of house hunting. But aside from the current argument, I've been complaining for a long time that UA-cam should require all channels to indicate the original pub date. It's a real problem with news stories as well.
