Great tips. Especially the "Duplicate Timeline" shortcut. That always drove me crazy. Well done as always.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for being here. I learned that duplicate item tip from the Facebook group. Its so useful.
Wow! Great tips! Thank you!
As always GOLDEN NUGGETS!! Thank you so much!!
🔥 killer tips! Thanks.
Super helpful thank you!
BRILLIANT! Thank you so much for yet another brilliant video.
Your channel one of my favorites!
Great as always brotha. You are one of my favorite Resolve channels on UA-cam. Always right to the point.
Mastering keyboard shortcuts gives hours of time back when added up over the course of an entire project.
A couple I have made in Resolve for myself that some may find helpful…
I set Option F to reveal a highlighted clip in my timeline to where it lives in the project bin.
I set the | key (don’t know what it’s called, straight line key? lol) to take me back to frame 1.
I set the Tab key in color to quickly rename Nodes.
And basically any number keys that aren’t being used can also be assigned common tasks to save time.
Love it Adam! Thanks for sharing those shortcuts, I don't think I've ever renamed nodes with a shortcut before and will try that this week. It's these small things that add up to saving so much time and just having more fluid creative fun in the app. I appreciate you!
Please excuse me for being a "nosey so-and-so" (🤣) and reading your comment @Adam Szarmack...
I just wanted to thank you for sharing your tip on having a keyboard shortcut to rename nodes on the colour page...I never would have thought of that 🤯.
Cheers man 🙏🏻
Really appreciate you, Chadwick. Great tips as always. Love the work you’re doing.
You did it again! Another extremely useful tutorial. Thanks so much!
Wow thank you so much that really helped
Thanks Chadwick! Great tips!!
You bet!
Great stuff Chadwick, really taking the growing pains away from switching over to Resolve so late in my career. Much appreciate your brevity, knowledge and levity.
thanks for the tips !!
As always nice Job dude!
Awesome 👏🏾
wonderful tips, I never knew that about full screen timeline.
Thanks a lot. Your clips are great!
Thanks for watching!
Very helpful as usual
Glad it was helpful!
You rock Chadwick! Great tips!
You rock! Thanks for watching!
Great video.. Thank you
Thanks Chadwick... you make my editing life so much better... and I love your speedy delivery - cause life is too short to listen to long and labourous descriptions. That's way the pause/play button exists.
Excellent as always man - three banging tips 🔥.
Thanks so much Chadwick 🙏🏻
My pleasure! Thank you so much Gary.
Oh boy, you just changed my world! THANK YOU!
Ahhh it's only for dual screen...
yeah unfortunately you need 2 displays, you could possibly hack it by installing an HDMI headless plug for $10 or so but that's not really how its intended to be used.
Bro these tips are GOLDEN!!!!!
Appreciate it! Thanks for watching.
I find highlighting the timeline you want to duplicate and then pressing command C and then command V (as in copy & paste) is a good way to duplicate a timeline!
Great Advise once again Chadwick, I’m going to use that full screen timeline option. It will come in super handy! Thanks 🙏 for the great tips! 👍😀
Glad it was helpful Nash. I appreciate ya.
Took a quick break from finishing a 30s spot for broadcast because your videos are top-notch. Just switched to a full timeline view to finish the spot, thank you for the reminder!
Great to hear! Thanks for spending some of your valuable time on here Travis.
Nice tips Chad. Thumbs up
Glad you like them. Thanks so much for being here and watching Martinho!
Chadwick, you're the man 👍 I am coming from FCP and transitioning to Davinci Resolve. Your tips are so helpful.
Happy to help! That's useful to know you're coming from FCP (good choice btw). Thanks for being here.
@@CreativeVideoTips I took the challenge to use Davinci Resolve as my main NLE for one year and see if I go back to FCP. I missing the magnetic timeline, but otherwise a different league of video editing.
Thanks man! I've been wanting to use the full screen timeline option for ages. Thought it was only possible on the studio version. haha
wish million likes on your channel . u r doing great job man . all of your videos are really helpful .......❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
If you had a course, I would buy it. Thanks for the content.
love all the tips but the most interesting part in your videos for me by now is which microphone you're using this time
Hey thanks! That's the most fun part for me right now too, I'm on an audio kick and learning a ton about microphones. This is the Octava MK012, small diaphragm pencil condenser with the hypercardoid capsule. The previous Fairlight tutorial was on the DPA 4017B (borrowed) shotgun mic.
I'm planning on mixing it up with some less expensive dynamic mics in the next videos. But I'm very curious, do you have a preference between this weeks Octava, and last sound tips video using the DPA?
Hi Chadwick! I've been using Resolve since 12 (or 11.. can't remember) and quit doing (YT) videos for over a year. Forgot so many things and now that I'm editing again I'm binge viewing your videos to get back into it. Thanks so much for excellent tutorials! (also bought a speed editor and your tutorials for this device are the best)
Thanks so much Mike for the kind words. You're an OG Resolve guy too! I need to check out your channel. The post house I worked for at the time bought in on version 9 when it became $1,000 and I needed the noise reduction. That being said, I've only recently a few years ago embraced it as my primary full service editing package. Cheers!
@@CreativeVideoTips Oh, I started many channels, but this is only my private one without videos (Mike H). Starting two completely new channels now. If you want to check out one 'fun review' video from one of my old (discontinued) channels: ua-cam.com/video/hE5Rjv7Xe44/v-deo.html (only watch the 1 minute intro video.. shot 100% with an Osmo Pocket and edited with Resolve of course). Thanks again for your tutorials, Chadwick! :) BTW: The first videos I learned Resolve with was Goat's Eye View... Daria was amazing! Cheers from Germany, Mike
thank you chad
I appreciate ya!
Another amazing tip. I never thought of using that fullscreen timeline as a toggle. A related question: Don't you want to have a video clean feed to the 2nd monitor? Or do you in practice need 3 monitors to do that? Thanks!
Thanks Chadwick, The tilda key when hovering is something in Premiere that I miss in Resolve. Not sure why they don't implement that in Resolve. If they can do it on two monitors - then toggling it off and on within one should be easy enough. Maybe we will get detachable timelines in the future where you can resize and position it anywhere.
I would really love to see this as an option on 1 display too! Maybe for all the panels? Maybe I hope for too much?
Really big help, you got a new Sub! The only problem I had was full screen timeline hot key. It did not want to work. Was glitchy and not working, maybe a display issue?
🔥
Thanks for watching Franklin! I appreciate ya.
Related Pro tip for Mac. Install Karabiner. Remap capslock to control+option. Now you have an extra modifier key. Or map left control to Mouse click down. Or send F11 on single tap left command key. To give a few examples. 👍🏻
Thanks for the tips! I'll have to give that a go.
@@CreativeVideoTips No problem! Its an amazing tool and it works low level on the OS so does not feel like an app is running in between. It does take some editing in the JSON to do more complex things but there are many examples you can load and adapt. All those big modifier keys ( shift, command, option ) are only used in combination with other keys. So you can use these keys for sending out F1, F2 etc commands without conflicting with normal use. And you can do different remaps for the Left or Right modifier keys. Its the best keyboard remapper for OSX. Good luck! And keep the Davinci video's coming👍🏻
I've recently been watching for videos, really useful stuff. I'm a beginner, wanting to switch from Premiere Pro, so these are very informative. Quick question though, when dragging a clip for the source monitor onto the timeline, I get a video thumbnail that covers the cursor. I don't like this but I'm having trouble finding a solution. Anyone have an answer?
Thanks for very helpful content Chadwick! There is a question I didn't find answer for. I edit on 2 screens, one of them laptop monitor and extra 1080P monitor for "Full Screen Timeline". I usually have many tracks on a timeline for titles, subs, first cam, second cam, b-rolls, vfx watermarks, etc. On 1080P monitor only 8 video tracks and 6 audio tracks are visible, how many track I could get using 4K monitor? Or Davinci Resolve just scale full screen timeline into 4K resolution and there is no sense of upgrading for 4K monitor for all tracks visible at once?
Is there any way to get full screen timeline on single monitor or in my case on a MacBook Pro laptop?
Shift P, from day one is giving me full frame timeline… If you’re over the record window shift P will give you full frame record monitor. At least that’s how it works for me. And I don’t recall assigning that shortcut, I think it came that way.
Awesome! Now if only we could use the tilde key to toggle full screen of ANY panel that your mouse is hovering over like in Premiere / AE :-)
That would be cool and very useful - you should post this suggestion on the blackmagic forum so they can take it into future consideration.
@@CreativeVideoTips I believe I did and got a lot of "+1" responses.
Thank you, can I add my own voice and change it a bit?
💯
What could be the reason for my keyboard shortcut to work in cut page only and not the edit ? Not necessarily the ones you shared
Thanks for the video, Chadwick. Don't suppose there is a way to get full screen timeline on a single monitor, is there?
Thanks for watching Marin. Not at the moment, but I would love if more people would express interest in this and then maybe Blackmagic could put this on their future roadmap. You can pretend to have another monitor with "headless HDMI plug". This is a possible workaround I just thought of since posting this morning and haven't tested yeet.
Can i do this in on moniter? 🤔
Hi friend! I have 1 monitor and i can't switch to full screen timeline. How to fix this? 🙏
I love to learn how the timeline in the edit page can move like the cut page. Is there a way to make it flow like that?
Hi Brian, I hear what you're saying. It's not available on the edit page though. Resolve calls it a fixed playhead and is only an option the cut and Fairlight pages. This would make a good feature request if you posted it to the blackmagic forums.
I will have to look into posting in those forums.
Did you see @kold video? Let the Resolve revolution begin.
I haven't, I'm not sure who that is. Can you link to it here if it's helpful?
@@CreativeVideoTips sure, ua-cam.com/video/LhONgaaLjHk/v-deo.html It's just interesting since he's a massive youtuber and in a recent matti haapoja video he was part of the minority that is using Resolve (of course he is also selling a course now, so big thank you for all of your amazing free content) but still I think it's a positive step for the resolve editorial community of folks that like having quick access to a daw and a vfx tool and pro color. Also made me laugh since he complained you couldn't do a fullscreen timeline mode, and you literally just explain how you can.
Thanks! I guess there is no way to have a full screen timeline when you have a clean video feed on your second monitor right? That would be awesome!
Not that I know of Rico. However, if you have 3 computer displays you could use clean feed on one all the time, and the standard dual screen that I show in this tutorial. I think it would be cool if Blackmagic could allow a full screen timeline with only 1 display in the future.
An alternative to a clean feed out for those on the free version is to use a blackmagic ultrastudio mini monitor over thunderbolt 3 and send a clean feed to a tv. I often do both of those depending on the room I'm cutting in.
@@CreativeVideoTips Cheers mate! Keep it up, I really like your videos!
duplicae item whoaaa
I know! I learned this one from the DaVinci resolve Facebook group last year. So good.
Chad, I wonder if you could do timelines duration markes that show the name allt the time. Not just when you hover it. Aslo I don't like the look of markers. I wish you had an option to let them color the full "time measuring" part above it. You can hardly se what color it is some times on some colors.
Which mic do you use for recording your video
I change it up a lot but this is the octava mk012 with the hypercardioid capsule. Does it sound ok to you?
Never knew that the Tilde key did UNDO Like Ctrl + Z. But that explains a lot of things I thought I did and they aren't there the Dam TILDE key was erasing them (UNDOING) them cause I have set up the Windows Key + TILDE to toggle the Play Head between(Stop & Go Back to Start) and just stop where you are. So if I hit the TILDE key before the Windows key it must have done an UNDO of my last thing I did. Man I got rid of the TILDE Key doing an UNDO. That's why I hate Keyboard shortcuts, especially the ones you don't use all the time. I can screw up more by NOON Monday, than I can fix by Friday. I used to tell my BOSS that if I had a bad Sunday at the tavern.
Hi, Chadwick. Maybe you can help with this. I got Davinci Resolve Studio 18 and the timeline gets really laggy when I zoom in or out as the thumbnails have to be regenerated each time. Makes my Macbook M1 PRO freeze for 3-4 seconds. That didn't happen when I was using DR 17. Any suggestions? Thanks!
Hmm. It might be that your cache is bad or on a slow drive. I would search for the folder “cacheclip” and delete everything.
@@CreativeVideoTips My cache is on the internal Mac M1 Pro SSD which is quite fast. Deleted the cacheclip and now I have extra 90GB of memory (thanks!) But the problem is still there. And it looks like I'm not the only one experiencing this
@@ErikAleynikov hmm. Must be a bug.
Recently I've been doing more back and fourth between timelines (editing one clip in a seperate timeline to drop in another when it is done) and I switch by just double clicking it in the media box, but sometimes it just highlights the timeline in the media box, or I double click it where it tries to rename it instead and its getting a bit annoying now. Anyone have any better way to switch between two timelines?
Absolutely and great question. If you click the icon in the timeline upper left you can turn on stacked, tabbed timelines. This allows you to have as many as you want open at once.
@@CreativeVideoTips oh perfect thank you!
That full timeline will be great if we could do it in just one monitor :(
I'm with you 100 percent Randal. I'm fixin to go remote for a few weeks and will only have my laptop. Maybe we can hope they see this comment or a forum post and think about it as a future upgrade feature?
Hi, I am using a laptop with a second monitor. Why is ON greyed out?
Hmm I haven't seen that before. Is it setup as an extended desktop or a mirrored display?
@@CreativeVideoTips I've tried both options...
ONG
Dont you LOVE DVR??? I do

@@CreativeVideoTips Why not. Too bad here in NL it is not the most populair prog. looking for a job DR i snot asked much... pitty_4me. The competion is sponsoring schools and students, so the companys ask for...
@@CreativeVideoTips I would love to see that. I think, sadly, it's only weakness is adoption, less folks use it and would benefit.

Hey I never heard of you till now! Around you part of the DaVinci resolve community on discord?
Tell me, in version 18 of DaVinci I don't have the ability to display the timeline in full screen The Full screen buttons in Workspace are not active. What can you tell me? We really need this opportunity
Awesome info. I've never changed keyboard shortcuts before.
