Great video! Our farm is in the small monsoon climate zone. We’ve had 50 inches of rain in one month and gone 6 months with only 0.5 inches. It makes for some interesting farming. 🤙
I live on this island. I love how respectful you are and the amount of historical and environmental information that you shared. This was a great video! My class really enjoyed it! Mahalo!
This was incredible, JJ! I liked learning about the unusual adaptations of native Hawaiian organisms, and how you showed the whole range of climate zones. Thanks for all the work you did in assembling and sharing this knowledge!
Wow, when I was trying to find a shortlist of the Big Island climate zones I did not expect to find this gem of a video. Love the breakdown of the zones themselves, but more importantly an explanation of the scientific theory behind it. Well presented too. And I really appreciate your use of metric units. Would give it ten likes if I could.
I love how thoroughly you covered things in this video. I know it could be an entire series but you did well covering a lot with the given time. I learned more about Hawaii, thanks!
Glad you enjoyed it, yeah this could have been a whole series, but with my limited footage of many of the climates it would have been a little tricky to pull up, but more Hawaii content soon
All species in Hawaii arrived from somewhere else. Life is dynamic. When the islands first emerged from the sea, they were sterile patches of lava. Since all life forms on Hawaii are colonists, where do we draw the arbitrary line between native and invasive?

Thanks, yeah this was a big project that took months to get, and then some scouting to learn about the herons at sunset. But more Hawaii to come.

Human assistance vs not human assisted colonization, the rates of arrival and population establishment are novel in Hawaiian natural history
