I saw one for the first time today in the Delaware River at Port Jervis. It was on the underside of a large flat rock I had lifted from the riverbed while taking a swim. I am happy to learn that its presence indicates that the waters I spend so much time in are not polluted.

so do differently people feel the stings differently? like ive been stung by red harvester ants alot over the years, they are everywhere in sw Oklahoma. but i think a wasp sting is way worse then a harvester ant bit and Ive always thought that a wasp was about in par with a honey be

I got stung by one in New Mexico, visiting my G'ma. Got into my shoe and stung on the top of my foot. Really hurt for a day or two. But we have the Pogonomyrmex Californica in CA where I live. In spring, you see them by the sides of hiking trails foraging. Wondered if they sting, and I now have my answer. Also, just read the Chumash people (Native Americans) of CA would use them to initiate boys into manhood. 250 ants was an effective dose, swallowed alive.

I am blown away by the number of species you were able to film, I can only imagine that that was very challenging. You made strong points throughout, even though I also wish we could talk about the intrinsic and ecological importance of birds more than the purely anthropocentric, economic benefits.
