If I owned that Pub and Jarrow & Co were pulling me in £20k a week, I would make sure they were well looked after, I would have paid their council rent arrears for them and Helped them. Fast forward 5-10 years after this aired and Simon Cowell was doing the same thing just to a wider audience. Wheeling out people with problems, for audiences to laugh at. It amazes Me that Gino who is ill helps Clive out, cooking and washing for him. Where were the social services ?
I still have a copy of this documentary, its a wonderful thing to have.I often show it to friends who cant believe it.These people ALL had a good time ,no one was hurt or upset--just a bunch of PC liberals who would have it all stopped--and for what--its great stuff
Anyone know if they are still around? Junior Elvis, Paul Mullen and his sister Liz were my best friends growing up but when I moved to a different country we lost touch and when I got back they had moved. I still think about them all these years later
Fuck all wrong with the Jarra El show. Had some blindin neets in the Vic Park watching them. Saw Jarra El last week, he's still kickin aboot....the man's a living legend.
This sounds like a number of bands I was in. LOL Poor sick bastard....he really should be in care...on the other hand, it sure sounds like he's having fun.
So they played there for years responsible for bar takings of between £15-20,000 a week so that's a Million a year and they got paid in beer tokens and meals shocking! "In my eyes they are professional entertainers." but hey the backing band would have bene paid a decent wage so why not the rest of them?!
I can see it now jarra elvis on the x factor!
would get my vote .
long live the king
i saw the man today, in a suit, sun glasses and slippers... stylish man
One of the best docs, a slice of depravity from the north - as usual - but they should put it in cinemas double feature style with 'John's Not Mad'

Exploitation at it's worse, people got very rich off the back of him and his lovely friends. Shameful.
Exploitation I agree. But I do not think anyone got rich off the back of him. The
pub sold a few more pints. If you know differently, tell us.
bloody hell Jarra 25 years ago

Maybe today's society has moved on. Bear in mind that this documentary was made in 1992, sixteen years ago.
