Just finished cookies for my daughter’s class tomorrow. You weren’t wrong this is a fool proof recipe. It turned out perfect the first try and that never happens for me. The alligator cookies I made look great, this will be my go to recipe forever!
I usually use a crusting buttercream to frost and stack my sugar cookies because I have never been a fan of royal icing, but you can't get those delicate designs with piping buttercream, so I am so thankful for this recipe! You might not get as delicate of a design as royal icing, but much more delicate than buttercream. I just frosted some sugar cookies with it last week for an office party and they turned out so beautiful!!! Thank you! For anyone on the fence about this icing, you HAVE to try it, you will be happy you did!
This is so nice to hear, I’m so glad you enjoyed the recipe!! Thank you for letting me know how it turned out for you!! I hope you find more recipes on my channel that you love just as much 💕
I'm not much of a cook or baker, but I can follow recipes and instructions. My wife and I give our neighbors a tin of various homemade cookies every Christmas. We decided this year to include decorated sugar cookies. This recipe was by far the best. No spreading while baking. Great taste and the icing was delicious. My wife said it will be a standard every Christmas! We did trees, cane's, stars, stocking, and snowmen.
Going to make my small batch sugar cookie recipe and use this icing for decorating with my 5 yr old granddaughter. She loves to bake and decorate whenever she can.
@@annettemartinez4063 I oftentimes use Almond Extract. And if you haven't tried Almond Extract (just a tad) mixed into Chocolate Sauce your missing out. Mixing it in and pouring it over Vanilla Ice Cream makes your bowl of Ice Cream taste like a bowl full of "Queen Anne Chocolate Covered Cherries". Husband and I enjoy it but literally only a drop or two is all it takes to achieve the taste. I thought I'd pass it forward if you enjoy the taste of Almond.
This was very helpful as this was my first time making icing and sugar cookies from scratch. Loved the tip for using a glass to get the icing into the bag! That definitely worked! The video presentation was easy to follow. The part about the consistency was also so helpful. My granddaughter had a great time helping! Thanks for sharing!
Using you bag straight up and down also gives more control so you can get right up to edges. If not, use your scribe to get all the way to edges. It always looks cleaner and neater
Being a cookie decorator myself, I use regular vanilla extract when mixing my royal icing along with a few drops of white gel coloring. It makes a nice and bright white icing. I'm sure it would work with this recipe too 😀
Hello Sam. - So, if I want to do lots of decorations on my cookies of different colors, I can still do it with this icing BUT, I will have to wait till each color sets? Is that right? For example, a Xmas tree ( Green ) with garland ( White ) over the Green & Xmax ornaments in 2 - 3 other colors. Thank you. ♥ EDIT: 12-10, I made some Gingerbread cookies following your recipe also & made that icing. It harden/dried pretty quickly, so it was easy to put all the colors in the end. I wish I could share a pic of them. they look pretty good for a first-timer.
Sorry I didn't catch this earlier! As you found it starts to set quickly enough that it's not a super long process. You can always tag me on Instagram if you have one. I love seeing pictures. :) @Sugarspun_Sam
I always make my grandma’s sugar cookie recipe for Christmas in hopes it will make the holiday easier. I made them last year and I made a buttercream for them. It was good but also really sweet. I’m excited to try this.
My sugar cookie icing which I got from my mom just uses powdered sugar and milk. The consistency is the same and it spreads easily. I may consider adding vanilla after watching this.
This is an awesome recipe and very tasty too. Thank you for sharing! You have the best food critic right there on your hip!❤️ HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!
Try a danish dough hook, mixes like a whisk but doesn’t bog down. Plus the handle is wooden and strong. Love this recipe!! Thanks for adding sift after you measure! ❤
I have to tell you that this is the bomb! The icing was easy and flavorful (I used Almond flavoring). It took a while to get the consistency just right, but after was nice to use and easy to decorate. Plus I tend to shy away from the raw egg whites in the Royal icing. Thanks for you recipe. Keep up the great work.
Hi, thank you for the recipe! How long are the cookies good to eat? Can you leave them out in a tin on counter for a week, or should you refrigerate them after a couple of days? I hope that's not a stupid question 😂❤
For anyone who likes the thicker dyes (mine is a paste) you can stop the icing a little thicker and use a bit of the milk to mix into the dye to turn it more liquid which will make it much easier to mix in😊
Ty for sharing. Going to try this recipe with my little one. We did it 2 years in a row making cookies and have yet to find the right icing that isn't so sweet.
I sometimes feel like you made the video just for me. LOL Yeah I'll just roll with that. ;-) I will probably give these cookies and frosting a try. I guess I better order the shapes soon if I want them for our Christmas! Another awesome video!
Good tips, but I'd like to try this with extra creamy oat milk instead of milk, and I would use almond extract instead of vanilla. I use the almond extract in my whipped cream frosting that I frost my chocolate angel food cake, and it just really adds something special to an already quite special cake. (Some years ago, big-name cake mix makers had a chocolate angel food mix, but it the cake it made wasn't nearly as good as that which one makes on their own using a 2-stop angel food mix...which is getting harder to find these days, too...the major brands don't seem to make a 2-step mix anymore.)
What a "SCORE" of a Find this video was! I ❤ knowing about this easy-to-use recipe. QUESTION PLEASE: Does this recipe work well for Wet-On-Wet applying or would you recommend letting one colored area DRY FULLY BEFORE adding an additional color adjacent to the first one? Examples: The different colors needed for a Christmas Ormament Cookie or a Gingerbread Man Cookie. Thanks, in advance, for your helpful suggestions. HAVE A WONDERFUL AND BLESSED THANKSGIVING DAY 🦃 🍽 and 🎉Weekend.
You could use piping gel instead of the frosting if that's what you'd like to use. I'm not sure how it will set up or look as I'm not familiar with it.
Thank you so much for this! I’ve decorated in the past & sent them to my son’s work…he told me that the icing ruined the taste of the cookie & they all went in the trash…that’s too much work for that to happen….I will definitely give this a try
Your assistant or should I say quality control is very cute! Thank you for the recipe! What was the other recipe that you were talking about for more detail?

This sounds perfect. I'm planning to make a gingerbread house and I don't want to use Royal icing. No one mentioned whether this icing will hold a house together, but I'm going to try!

They don't need to be refrigerated. The sugar stabilizes the milk here. They are good for about a week in an air tight container at room temperature. :)
Can the icing be made the day before I plan to use it? I was thinking about storing the icing in an airtight container and refrigerating it until the next day, but I'm wondering if that would mess up the icing's consistency.
Have you ever used this recipe to make an icing transfer for a cake? Just wondering how the syrup would be affected when putting the transfer into the freezer to harden before putting it on the cake. Thanks!
Unfortunately I haven't tried it so I can't really say for sure how it would go. I don't think the corn syrup will give you any issues but I really don't know if it would hold up when put on the cake. It could potentially work but without having tried it I'm just really hesitant to advise. :(

You can leave the corn syrup out, but the icing won't dry quite as firmly and won't be shiny. You may need to add more milk. I'm not sure how the lemon would work.
Thank you for the recipe! I need some advice! Im planning to do an activity and I want to give kits with cookies and piping bags with royal icing, Im going to make and prepare them the day before so how do you recommend me to do it? Looks easy and tasty. Question, can the icing be frozen (on the cookie)? I would like to make some now, keep some out for hubby & myself, and freeze balance to be given for Xmas. Just make the icing once.
The drinking glass hack to fill the bag is golden! It was a "why'd I never think of that?" moment! Thanks!
Thank you for showing how the icing was stackable without getting damaged. I was specifically worried about this. 😊
You're welcome! Just make sure it dries completely first. :)

My siblings and I like to use lemon or orange extract rather than vanilla. Great video-thanks!
Love both of those flavors. Very helpful Hint to use the Lemon 🍋 or Orange 🍊 instead of Vanilla extract. Thanks.

I also use white gel coloring so the white is WHITE.
I tried your recipe few xmas ago and they turned out just like yours!!! I forgot to comment and say thank you for sharing
