    Alright here, now we're gonna talk about how to hit a single leg and finish it. There are a number of different finishes, the first is running the pipe, or ride the pipe. So, single leg is very easy off of the southpaw orthodox stance. So, I jab, he comes in, he grabs my leg. Okay, alright, that's when you're gonna shoot. Same thing, southpaw orthodox. I jab, and I can shoot in as well. Okay, so, either way, he jabs and shoots, or he can shoot off of my jab, either way. Or any front hand technique, I can hook, he comes under, he shoots, anyway. Okay now, after he grabs my leg, he's gonna squeeze his legs together a little okay? Now, very important, is footwork here. He's gonna smash me. See my leg here? He's gonna make that leg bend. Smash me down. See that? He smashes me down. Now he's gonna turn the corner, and throw. One more time, he shoots in, he jabs, he grabs the single. Okay, head should be here, don't put your head here. Okay, one more time, never put your head down, do it like he did. Boom! Right there, see it? Look right into my chest. Head - 'cause I'm gonna be trying to do this. Now, smash! Turn! Boom, right there. Okay, one more time. Shoots in, my jab or his jab. Boom. Smash! Ride the pipe. Again, full speed. Now. That's how you do a single leg.

    Someone commented on Conor Mcgregor’s lack of footwork on this last fight, this is exactly why it was missing. Conor puts his leg forward and bounces when he does footwork, easy target for Khabib.

    Anyone participating in Wrestling or MMA should have a single leg in their repertoire. I highly recommend videos like this for breaking down what you have learned in Training to getting a little bit of understanding before joining class (which is not necessary at all).
    However watching these videos in order to train yourself or have a street fight is the dumbest thing you could do to yourself. First one often leads to making mistakes a habit without the supervision of a trained coach, second one will most likely wake you up in hospital. Real fighting is way different then Training technique on paper, every fighter thinking about his very first sparring session way back probably feels me right now.
    Stay out of trouble gentlemen and stay healthy.

      It's better to know than not to know. My best advice? Always hit the gym to gain that muscle & stamina. Secondly practice shadow boxing in front of a wall mirror. 3rd get a sparring partner. That way you get used to combat & know what it feels like to get hit

      Default are you keeping your head on the inside? You’ll get choked if you place it on the outside and allow them to sit back into a modified guard, or if you look at the ground when you grab the leg...if you stick your nose in his rib cage and stay connected, the angle to finish the guillotine is not there (although they will still try to attack it). If you go to the ground while they are attacking the choke, be sure to land (or move) to the opposite side of the guillotine so that your body is on the opposite side of your head, again, the angle is not there for them to finish you, HOWEVER, if you were to clasp your hands together and put all your weight on YOUR shoulder, now YOU will be the one choking him. UA-cam a Von Flue Choke

    Here's a better option. If it's the left leg being grabbed; put your right arm under the calf or behind the knee, grab your right hand with your left pick them up, and sweep the red leg, and try your best to make them land on their head. Vice versa with the right leg.

    For example, speedy footwork would be a great addition, but I don't see much of it (not that I've been watching recently). Inside fighting would do wonders against the cage. Correctly executed angling would not only stop the opponent from striking, but also make them turn and be unable to execute a take down. Head movement and counters would end fights. It's just, the level of boxing in MMA isn't really great. They also are limited in how much boxing they can get experience in like on the inside

    • @alexandertheok5649
      @alexandertheok5649 Рік тому

      tbh boxing footwork is also great for executing a takedown. A D'amato shift can be very viciously followed by a single leg thats hard to sprawl against

  • @MrSavedByGrace07
    @MrSavedByGrace07 11 років тому +1

    As a result of this, I see a lot of guys just standing in front of each other hitting one another, which isn't boxing. They may know how to throw a hook and a straight, but not know any other aspects of the science. I think putting a good (not washed up, lol) boxer in the octagon with a good sprawl would dominate the fight. I'm not putting MMA down, but MMA does boxing to set up takedowns or things for MMA, while boxing does boxing to pick apart opponents with the hands, footwork, and skill.

I do HEMA but I'm mostly self-taught because there's no clubs nearby, so I'm looking for whatever I can. Not at the same level as a boxer. Not only that, they aren't doing full boxing. There are many things MMA doesn't teach for boxing that boxers do. You hardly ever see angles in MMA punching like boxing. Or speedy footwork. Or crisp, quick punching. A boxer has no limitations on boxing, whereas in MMA they are really only learning certain aspects of boxing. Maybe they think they'll get taken down or something. But I think they should use more boxing techniques in MMA. It might help their game.

    You can't assume MMA is better than boxing just because a boxer boxes. You don't know if the boxer would knock out the MMA person (Mercer KO Sylva shows difference in power) or if the boxer has a good sprawl (I'm a boxer and I have a good sprawl). Boxers also have superior footwork and handspeed, accuracy, power. The debate will last forever, but look up Raphael Butler. Boxer turned MMA and is now a state champ within a few fights. Not arguing, just saying, you can't count out boxers.

    Well if the boxer is practicing takedown defense that just makes it MMA.
    Boxing is part of mma. MMA is just an overall more well rounded and varied discipline. The reason you only see some of boxing in MMA is because only some of boxing is effective in mma.
    inside fighting isnt worth training extensively because its completely nullified with a clinch, but unlike boxing you dont just get separated and get to do it all over. You transition into a whole other set of skills.

  • @craigharvey500
    @craigharvey500 11 років тому

    Mysavedforgrace. mma is not like boxing, it uses a different stance that's more practical. Bouncing around ducking moves can get you in to trouble with knees and kicks. Boxing is very useful but that's only one stance out of many possible stances in an mma/UFC fight. Standing still, is more common for real fights. Footwork is useful but boxing stance is for close range only.

  • @ChamorruWarrior
    @ChamorruWarrior 11 років тому

    MMA doesn't focus very well on self defense actually. You learn how to fight. But as far as learning things like awareness, learning to use weapons or defend weapons, learning to angle yourself against multiple people. MMA doesn't teach anything like that. It teaches you great fighting techniques, but I think it's safe to say that if I had peper spray I could probably beat anyone in the UFC... >.> Real human combat is not like MMA, it's with weapons. Always has been, always will be.

    In wrestling I learned to lift the leg and drive into the person with my legs and shoulder and left them and slam them down in a similar way you would if you were doing a double leg. For example, we're both orthodox, so I go for his left leg and then drive my body into him while turning into his right to throw him off balance, make him be kinda on his tippy toes on his right leg and then slam them down while throwing myself into him. Is this incorrect for MMA or could I still do it and follow it with my knee under his left leg to block him from the guard?

    i came here by chance. I have no idea of fighting, but when he grab the leg and keep the head up. that doesnt leave the face near the fist of the opponent and ready to be punched?
    thanks in advance.

      Hi. There happens to be a chance for punching but since the attacker control the leg and compress, the defender is out of balance and cannot throw a proper powerful punch. He actually goes for the head but aiming at defending the single leg itself, as showed in another video of the same author.

    I know this isn't self defense oriented, but man, putting your head up like that screams "eye gouge" to me. That's like the major move us untrained weaklings learn. Thousands of eye gouge reps.
    Obviously the more you practice this takedown, the better you get, and speed comes with practice. Hopefully they'd be on the ground before even knowing what happened to them.

    his face is open and leaves a opening to his face
    and you can land a punch on his throat as well just have to be quick enough

      You say that as if it's easy. Besides, when they're on the ground they can't hit you very well.

      +Louis Heywood if you do what the guy is doing press you head against their chest they wont get your head especially if you do this real time because the guy wont have enough time to grab your head if he did then he wont have time to control you because you would have turned and he would be on the ground :)
