It's good to know Canada finally gave her asylum after UK denied it to her. @@TheraminTrees I can't express how grateful I am to you for doing this because it will reach a massive amount of isolated and marginalised Muslims who feel trapped and alone - just like all of us ex-Muslims did before we were shocked to discover we were not. Our biggest problem is reaching others. We don't have the huge organisations and community structures that religion has - nor their acceptance by mainstream media. Just letting someone know they are not alone makes all the difference. Religion and in particular Islam has for so long managed to keep dissent silenced. But once our voices are heard more widely I have no doubt that there will be an avalanche of Muslims saying "Yes, that's exactly how I feel, but I thought I was the only one." It will give courage to those being intimidated, silenced or abused and it will begin to turn the tide against oppressive religious authorities.

    Even after so many years of having departed religion, it still breaks me down mentally.
    Not in the sense that I find myself coming back to it, or having moments of doubt that drive me back to prayer.
    I find myself spending an absurd amount of time wondering how would my life have been had I not been exposed to this kind of dogmatic thinking, had this religion of fear that portraits abuse, narcisism and inhumane punishment as love and justice never been forced on me.
    Why does this fear of eternal pain and sufering have to forever live inside my head? Rationality makes it fade away in seconds but it feels like it's too late, they drilled it too deep to make it vanish.
    I'm in a miserable condition.
    I feel nothing but disgust towards religion for what it has done to me.
    And then I get sick at the idea that I'm of the lucky ones, not having been persecuted or having my life threatened.
    Your work brings tears of joy to me.

      If there is a God, it'd very unlikely adhere to any of the religions that currently exist. If it did, it'd likely be closer to the term "demon" than anything else. Since its morality would be absolutely terrible.
      Its sad, once one awakens from Religious beliefs, looking at those still hopelessly stuck inside.
      However knowing the ins and outs better than professed believers does help alot in providing doubt. As long as its served in a calm manner ofc.

      +Random GuyYou see, there are many people who grew up in terrible situations that left a lifelong burden for them to carry. Children who were abused in every possible way, abandoned, with diseases, whose parents died, with physical handicaps etc. Indoctrination is just one form of that. They can all stop to wonder what their life could have been like in different circumstances, and who they could have become had they not had their limitations heavily and carelessly imposed on them as children.
      But the thing is, we all have to live with what we've got and try to make the most of our lives. We cannot change the past. But people can use the knowledge they've gained through their pain and turn it into something that helps others, with an inside view that is only possible for them because they have been through it. Don't fantasize too much about who you could have been, although it's natural to do so. That way you will always be caught up in the past, unable to change your path. Use that pain and transform it into something you will be proud of, and we will alongside with you.

      I am always reminded that when people go through good things no one tells them, 'You think that was good? Someone else has had it better than you. You should think of others who have it better than you.' No, no one says that! And it shouldn't be said about suffering. If you are suffering you are allowed to be cross about it. You are allowed to feel angry. Eventually, there can be great joy in helping others with what you have learned. You had a lifetime in the religion, I doubt that the years you have spent out of it are long enough to compare with the decades spent in. You know about brain neurons. It is going to take a while for old neuron connections to weaken and your new ones to strengthen so that they are the only things your ruminating brain thinks about when it is wandering around in thought. Give yourself a lot of compassion while you transition your mind out of its programming. All the best :)

    I converted to Islam from Catholicism in my thirties. By the time I reached my early forties, I realized that all religion, ironically, stunts spiritual growth. In my early fifties, I became an atheist. I wish I had understood how harmful religion is when I was younger. I feel like I've wasted a lot of my life trying to live a lie. It is a constant source of frustration to me to look around and to see so called "anti-racists" who will go to great lengths to defend Islam from any and all criticism. I'm not sure what motivates some of these people, perhaps cult-like behavior and beliefs, sometimes it appears to be bigotry towards atheism, non-islam and European culture in general (perceived as "opposites" of Islam in a sense by some). Sometimes It appears to be nothing more than an excuse to attack others.
    People who claim to be fighting to protect "vulnerable groups" while they threaten and dehumanize vulnerable *individuals* continue to find a foothold, though I think such behavior is being exposed more often for what it is.

    • @farlado5459
      @farlado5459 5 років тому +7

      It's kinda a two-way road really. Some liberals will defend islam tooth and nail under the guise of protecting its followers, while some conservatives will judge the followers for being certain races under the guise of criticizing the religion. I'd be very wary of putting "European culture" as antithetical to Islam however, as Islam's influence on Europe is centuries old and is not a bad thing by any stretch.
      The most important thing in my eyes is to separate the religion from its followers and the race which is most commonly associated with Islam. Once you can separate the ideas from how people are treated in the here and now, you begin to develop a better understanding of the effects others' ideas have.

    • @snowballeffect7812
      @snowballeffect7812 5 років тому +11

      The problem is that the criticism very often leads to fear-mongering and irrationality (Islamophobia). This channel has done a spectacular job in raising criticisms of all religions without vilifying the practitioners. Some people are critics and others are bigots. It's important to make that distinction and to observe it oneself. If you think there is a large contingent of people defending the brand "Islam" ISIS espouses, then perhaps you should do some self-reflection.

    • @nightmathzombieethan
      @nightmathzombieethan 5 років тому +5

      I care not to for what a man looks like but what he thinks. I'm not a fan of Islam, quite the opposite, but I couldn't care less about the skin color of the practicer, my problem is with the ideology and it has nothing to do with race.

    • @GlobstersMessenger
      @GlobstersMessenger 5 років тому

      @@nightmathzombieethan I didn't mean to imply race is necessarily important, rather that race is used as a scapegoat or that those who would criticize ex-Muslims would also insist that race plays a part. Tying criticism of Islam to ideas of white supremacy or European colonialism would be an example, however nonsensical, that I've seen fairly often.
      People are often willing to use multiple layers or distraction or misdirection in order to justify un-justifiable views and positions. Often when trying to dismiss legitimate criticisms of ex-Muslims, apologists will throw many vague ideas into the fray to distract from that. Ex-Muslims might share a viewpoint that an Islamophobic speaker does, despite that point being accurate, the guilt by association card is played.

    Ex-muslim and rational atheist here: The things I had to go through were insane. My hardcore radical aunt told me I was gonna burn in hell for not believing in Islam and that The Koran is 100% and has all the answers. Sadly she is not the only muslim as intolerant and ignorant as that. When I recommended her a turkish translation of the book "The God Delusion" by prof. Richard Dawkins, she obviously had no interest and even said that this book deserves to be burned. Sadly she is not the only muslim as opposed to free speech, free press and free thought as that. She told me that all the answers can be found in the Koran and that science actually keeps affirming whats written in the Koran. As a scientists and someone who has read some of the superstitious verses of the Koran, you can guess my disappointment in that moment she said that. Sadly she is not the only muslim as unenlightened and desperate of wishful thinking as that. My childhood cousin blocked contact to me and blocked my number after I sent her educational lectures about evolutionary biology which presents evidence for the truth of evolution. Sadly she is not the only muslim as oppose to actual science as that. In conclusion: It is no secret that Islam is a toxic ideology, against the good values like peace, tolerance, honest and reasonable science and freedom of speech. The sad truth is that many muslims in the world are retarded in basic education and human rights. It's unfortunate to say that the mindset of many muslims is equivalent to those people living in the dark ages. Criticism and rational argument here is, without any doubt, desperately needed.

    My mind immediately goes to the fatwa against Salman Rushdie. I'll never understand this level of hypocrisy and fundamentalism.

    All your channels are of equal importance even for those people who aren’t former Muslims.
    It brings people together and shows that whether you are from Iran, Pakistan or Sweden we are still the same people with more in common than we think.

    This sort of thing is horrible. Its like the well meaning people who defend the hijab, but nothing is said about what is risked by the woman who refuse to and risk the same.

    THANK YOU sooooo much for your list of Muslims that are questioning their faith. I'm sick of bigoted (non-Muslim) voices telling me why Muslims are bad and wrong. I will now spend the next year(s) listening to & evaluating what these Muslims have to say. After all, I have to live here too.
