Great story. I did have a guitar back in 1978 that got stolen. It was a 1960 Gibson Melody Maker. It was $ 75 when I got it and the finish was stripped an all the electronics were gone.I took about a year to get it working and it turned out to be a great playing and sounding guitar. It was in my car one night about two years later when the car got stolen. I did get the car back but the guitar was gone and never seen again. I have owned about 120 electric guitars since but I still really miss the one that got stolen-I have not played a guitar since that was as easy to play. I became a guitar collector pretty much because of the loss of this guitar. I don't think I would have ever replaced it if it had not gotten stolen.
It's too bad bands have always had to worry about theivn' bastards stealing their equipment. What kind of person steals another working man's tools? Despicable.
This is my all-time favorite story in rock guitar mythology! I love the Black Beauty and it's recovery was cause for celebration in my home! Love Page, love the guitar, love the story, love this video, love this channel! Rock on, TCD!
I had my prized possession, a 68 muscle car, stolen 37 years ago in 86, never got it back, not a day has gone by I haven't thought, about and missed that car, Jimmy is lucky he got his axe back.
Still kicking myself for trading my 1st real guitar for a S.G. at the time ,thought I was really smart. But my Dad had bought it for me at Christmas when I was in the 4th grade, It was a 63 Fender Jaguar . Played House of the Rising Sun in a 5th grade talent show on it. Through a Fender Deluxe Black Face Amp. the 1st song I taught myself how to play by ear. regrets ,,yup ! Take'er Easy Dave
If you look at the middle pickup of JP's guitar in the pic, the screws are facing the neck, whereas the screws on the modern black beauty reissues are facing the bridge. Wonder if that affects the tone? Bear in mind, I'm only talking about the middle pickup here.
I’ve a bigsby on my tele so plenty of times. I’ve found the trick is to wedge the empty string packet between the ball end and the body so it can’t slip off the peg. Fiddly at first but it works for me.
It would be great to know what Zep tracks Page used that Black Beauty on! For some reason, my ears think it might have been used on "Whole Lotta Love".
Not a guitar, an amp An early 60s ac30, nicked out of the back of a van, loaned to the guitarist while his twin reverb got new valves I bought it around Christmas 1977 for £100 ,back then, it was just another old amp (not vintage or classic) Got another, but to this day, I miss that amp Possibly because it was stolen and not sold It was stolen in 1984, so I'm a few years light on Jimmy's les paul
You seem to know awful lot about the path of that guitar Dave? Page was the riff master but little known fact. When led Zeppelin warmed up for my band one night I was doing a string exercise that was basically black dog but in D. Page asked if I could show it to him. Next thing you know it's on led Zeppelin four.
I´m 45 (2023). Started playing guitar probably in 2006. I was fortunate enough to see Peter Frampton and Jimmy Page finding their lost guitars again.
I am glad that I held on to my 58

Great content Dave! 👍👍
Cheers all! 😃
I'm still pining for my mid 70's Les Paul standard after 44 years in fact since it had been stolen.
Great Channel by the way
Show your v in your background..it’s a beauty and deserves some screen time :)
Page is one of my top players :)
Oh yeah let’s raise a glass to Gary rossington r.i.p
Agreed may Gary Rossington RIP the cornerstone of southern rock!!!
Would you miss a guitar after 44 years? The memories for Page with that guitar can never be replaced. A once in a life time gift.

Was this the one with the push/pull pots under the pick guard?

Glad he got it back. The dude who stole it and bragged about it was a total turd.
Is there live footage with it
Cool story. I hadn’t heard that. The Peter Frampton guitar plane crash story is crazy also. What’s with planes and missing guitars lol?
Right??? Lol
Page is an unbelivable player and producer. Electric, acoustic he can do it all.
Les Pauls with a bigsby are just super cool.
You ever change strings on a bigsby? lol not all that cool then.
I’ve a bigsby on my tele so plenty of times.

I saw Led Zeppelin 4 times, the first being in 1970at Cobo Hall in Detroit!! Mesmerizing!!!

Crazy when you compare this story to Peter Frampton's black Les Paul Custom.. I think it was 33 years before he was reunited with his.
100 pounds in 1962 is the equivalent of roughly 2063 pounds today so really the price isn't so far off after adjusting for inflation.
If Gibson now do a sig model of this then either Gibson or Jimmy should give one of them to the man who gave him his original one back❤
Best I can figure that's $2,447 in USD today.
According to the bank of England inflation calculator its about £3100 ish today
@@texasred7806 Ok. So about $3,720 USD comparable. Still less expensive. I just bought a LP Custom Pelham for $5600 new.
@@zublacus yeah when you put it like that it's nothing compared to modern prices. It's crazy
He probably can't afford to replace it then. And probably be hard pressed to afford it today. Poor guy
As Jimmy tells the story it wasn't being played and was found under a bed where it had been for 20 years. I'll take Pageys version of the story
my wife of 40 years left me for my golf partner....im sure gonna miss him
No one cares about my missing axe! :( lol 😎🤓
please, turn down that background music!!!
Don't do drugs kids
I’m doing them right now, but mine are legit overpriced junk from the pharmacy. 💊
Thieves deserve the worst
I know Jim is guitars okay but our country is in the in turmoil we need to all get together and make a difference

How could you 100 percent say it's same guitar ? Maybe it had same marks on it or something he remembered
