As I shattered my meniscus and cartilage as a 16 years old kid 30 years ago, .... the docters told me I could never do any sports ever again. I walked on crutches for over two years and had to learn to walk again! So my pro carreer being a goalkeeper at soccer was over. And my cycling carreer! And I was was told never to do any skateboarding in my life. I was broken! But I was lucky that the older boys in my street always where surfing. They tought me how to play a digeredoo and challenged me to surf. Those guys made me into a surfer! It was the only thing I still can do! They changed my whole life! Surfing is life!

With how much pain Jethro was describing, I would be afraid of severe complications. Perferated ear drums are not uncommon with severe ear infections and if you let those symptoms lie without treatment they could lead to hearing loss.

@@antohein. Untreated/severe ear infections can lead to hearing loss. My friend is deaf in one ear because they had several as a child that went untreated long enough that the pressure build-up perforated their ear drum. (they went untreated because that friend is autistic and has sensory issues - they didn't realize that constantly being in agonizing pain wasn't normal) But hey do you know the trick for getting water out of your ear to avoid Swimmer's ear in the first place? Just put in a drop of rubbing alcohol to break the surface tension of the water. Generally takes a second person to make sure your head is angled right to get the drop to go in, but then you should feel when it reaches the trapped water and breaks the tension, then just tilt your head the other way to get both out.

Honestly, there should be a law. You get saved and warned twice. After that, it's time to clean the gene-pool. Natural evolution will then ensure that within 2 or 3 generation, people would actually listen to warnings. Wouldn't that be nice.

Why doesn't Jethro go to the Doctor for some antibiotics when he feels those earaches coming on? Persistent, chronic ear aches can eventually cause permanent hearing impairment and damage to his sense of balance if not seen to and cleared up. It was heroic of him to go out and save those silly tourists despite the pain he was in, but he needs to take better care of himself.

Can’t believe that group from China who saw their friend nearly drown, and then continued to ignore and laugh at the lifeguard when he was trying to advise them their lives were in danger! And then to have to be rescued 30 mins later?! Unbelievable!! They should’ve left them to it, seeing as they found it so funny.

I think what a lot of people dont realize is the rips move, and they can move pretty quickly. At least on the Florida coast they do. All it takes is a sand dune 20 meters out to partially collapse because of the waves and create a new channel and boom you've got yourself a new rip.

Never seemed to listen and failed to follow instructions. I had to rescue her from being hit by boats after she drifted into busy boat traffic during her floating test and I had to chase her down underwater when she, time after time, decided to turbo off in front of me.
