    Love the top and dress. Bias binding my go too method but slightly different from yours.. I think it works really well, by adjusting your seam allowance to 1/4 inch before you sew. Then put self double fold bias binding straight under the sewing machine not attached, leaving a 1.5 inch tail and start sewing. Bias tape taut when you sew underarm area to remove any gaping( reducing armhole by 1 to 2cm) if needed and then relax tape until you reach underarm area again. Stop short. Join the ends together flat , right side together. Then sew to complete your seam, clip seam if you need too. Press and turnover bias and top stitch. Hope that makes sense. Love your channel.

    First off, I am paying attention because the pattern calls for a yard of fabric. When ordering fabric on line, it kills me to add the additional .5 of a yard/meter. lol If a fabric website only cuts in yard/meter measurements I delete them from my favourites.
    I like the finishing techniques, and am very familiar with them, because back in the olden days, sergers were not readily available for home sewing and this is how my mother taught me to finish garments. If they were around at all, it would have been industrial manufacturers. Pinking shears were the order of the day, and my mother did not like the finish and used them sparingly.
    I will likely purchase this pattern. I think it will be fun to make and wear in the summer, utilizing those meter lengths we all have in our stash. Once again thank you for the detailed look at this new pattern release and sewing technique used to make the garment. I would have done the same with the hems. Lovely.

    @jennycollard1173 5 років тому +1

    Love your garments, and have bought the pattern, unusual for me as I normally pattern draft! I cant see why you shouldn’t use a floaty fabric?? I think the sleeves would look nice in something very lightweight....and maybe a longer sleeve too. I have a very lightweight cotton that is not opaque and think it would look lovely with body pieces lined and sleeves unlined.... I really enjoy your videos, Thankyou.

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  5 років тому +1

      I really wanted to use a rayon but in testing we need to follow the instructions and fabric recommendations. The concern with flowy fabric was that the dress would be limp at the sides as it’s not a full skirt, but a straight one. That straight style needs more structure. For the top, for sure, flowy is absolutely fine. You’ll love the pattern.

    I've just found your you tube channel and subscribed. I am a beginner at garment sewing and I'm so inspired by what you do. The dress you made is exquisite! I've just finished my first top (Colette Sorbetto because it was free!). I was a bit frustrated with finishing the seams. I do have a serger so I used it but wasn't sure if I should use the knife to cut a tiny bit or not. Opted not to because I was afraid I'd cut my top if I wasn't careful! My question is whether French seams would be appropriate for this top. Or does it depend on fabric choice? I used a lightweight cotton for my top because it was my muslin. I realize this is an older post but I would so appreciate if you could respond. Lockdown has me challenging myself with sewing. Much love to you. Thanks. ❤️

    • @LiftingPinsandNeedles
      @LiftingPinsandNeedles  4 роки тому

      Hi Denise. Yes for sure you can do french seams on the seams of any top, as long as the fabric is lightweight. Your cotton is perfect for French seams and they are always a step above the serger. The serger should have a knife built in to cut the edges while finishing them. I’m honored to inspire you. Thank you so much 😊. I’ve made the sorbetto, three actually, it’ll be one of my oldest videos.

      Thank you for your feedback and encouragement. My serger actually has a knife I can lock so I did serge the seams without cutting. Not very pretty I will admit but it worked. I am excited to hear that you've made the Sorbetto and will look for the older video. I think French seams are so elegant.
